"We're the wealthiest country in the world, and the one place we've gone to fund these tax cuts for the billionaires is in food and feeding hungry families."
Excellent interview with Rep. Chellie Pingree. She contributed a wealth of information about the recently passed Ugly Bill. She is so bright and speaks so clearly and succinctly. She's so interesting and easy to listen to. Really liked this interview Jen. You are not just such an excellent interviewer as you ask pointed questions but you have an amazingly rare ability to listen intently with obvious genuine interest in their answers. Thank you.
We all agree that the budget bill is devastating for the reasons in this interview and many more. Unfortunately I dont think most Americans understand the impacts on them and their neighbors, particularly since many of the impacts on individuals and communities (except immigrants) won't be felt until after the mid-terms. How do the Democrats start now to "change hearts and minds" and explain the impacts so that the midterms can flip both the House and the Senate? I just dont see it happen, at least where I live and what I read -- just a lot of hand wringing
Many young people do not feel secure about their futures. Why would they want to bring a new life into this world? If daycare costs more than college then fuhgedabout it. Do we really want to raise another generation of latchkey kids? Well yes and no. Kids that have a little more guidance in their life grow up a bit more secure and less so on awkward footing. OTOH, latchkey kids learn to be self sufficient very early on. What they aren’t taught they learn on their own. From cooking to cleaning to learning technology on one’s own. The Gen X kids learned to be self sufficient. They are the founders of You Tube and Google, Twitter, SpaceX and Tesla and others. They are tech savvy being the first generation to have PC’s in their homes and schools and were the earliest students to obtain computer science degrees in college. It has its advantages. I’m with Gretchen Whitmer our next president will be a Gen Xer!
How far back can GOP congress go? Passing BIG billionaire & DHS Bill, SCOTUS allowing more reduction to federal employees' echoes higher risk to climate abuses, food products inspection, such as dairy products. What can we buy and feel safe to drink & eat?
These changes from a few people in power have effects on all of us. Yes, the voters placed us into this positioned. But can we wait it out for the next election, in hopes we still have democracy. Or take drastic changes to stop their power. Look at the abuses of military type presence in Los Angeles using our tax dollars foolishly because someone in the administration wants to show power. I am ready for states to have a special election to secede from this order and regain independence.

I predict it will get even worse for families and even bigger drops.
