It is so refreshing to listen to a congressperson who is informed and speaks to facts and figures, which stands in utter contrast to the culture war liars and incompetents who supposedly "represent" me here in Utah. Imagine having a government that was actually interested in making life good for the average person in the US. I feel somewhat sick every day when I realize what kind of government we currently have.
How about having the WEALTHY "have some skin in the game"? If they would pay "their fair share," we wouldn't be in this mess.
The next time some Trump Party person gives you the "I shouldn't have skin in the game, but YOU must," just keep reminding them that they are doing this great harm to everyone in the country EXCEPT the billionaires.
Rep. Pingree is a valuable member of the U.S. House. And while the Senate "considers" the fate of millions of Americans who Pingree fights to protech -- Senator Collins is unfit to serve. A quarter century in the Senate and Collins has NEVER once showed a spine. The next Democracy rally in Maine should include signs that demonstrate the fact that Mainers know that.
I'm glad someone is concentrating on and writing about the ugly bill. We need to be concentrating on what damage is proposed upon our energy, our environment, our access to food and healthcare, and last, but not least, what judicial powers [such as contempt] are on the line. I wonder whether states can just keep all the tax funds which usually go to the Feds and pay for what the Federal govt is supposed to pay for. But the thing I don't have a solution to is this: even without ANY tax cuts how can everything be funded and how can we lower the deficit? Think of household budgeting: just how much credit can you run up to pay for everything before the credit is non existent? What would happen if the logic of household budgeting was applied to national budgeting? I have not heard anywhere answers or solutions or suggestions for these problems.
We need the ultra rich to pay their fair share of income taxes and FICA. After all, they are the ones benefiting the most from our economy and form of government. That will more than suffice to pay the bills. What’s more is that if you truly want to pay less for medicaid, bring down the price of drugs. There is no earthly reason why our costs should be 10x what Canadian’s pay. These companies are making money in Canada.
I don't recall where I got these numbers: $700 billion is the amount of tax evasion. Of that, $250 billion is the "ultra rich". The remaining owed is from proprietorships [not sure what that means] and rental properties {most likely the airbnb type of ripoffs].
The States will up taxes to pay for the federal transfer of its obligations to States. The Federal Government will not reduce taxes because of the deficit. When will people realize they'll be taxed into poverty while the very rich will continue on their merry way?
She was definitely articulate, especially given her perspective of the negative 'trickle down' effect of the host of budget cuts to state and local budgets. I just wish you would highlight some of the other aspects of the bill to inform more people, like the proposed sale of public lands, and the proposed moratorium on state AI regulation for the next 10 years, which are both items in the big betrayal bill that are connected- The AI broligarchs are a problem as it is and to have a moratorium on regulation and the ability to buy public lands for their gross data centers without any input from the public is really scary-
You cut taxes and give credits to encourage activities. Cutting taxes for billionaires should encourage more people to be billionaires. Maybe require schools to include courses on how to be a billionaire and another local expense to local government?
But it' a mite difficult to understand the reasonings re SNAP and Medicaid. Does making food and health more expensive mean less nutrition and less health? Probably. Do we have an excess of health that we need to be reining in? Would reduced health extend the SS trust fund;
especially as the hospitals decide to reduce health care and close?
Does reduced SNAP encourage people to send their children off to work on farms so the deported workers can be be replaced? Will the children who are citizens have acceptable IDs or will ICE fly them out too?
Does reduced health encourage self medication? Likely! But Trump is trying to stop affordable fentanyl coming in off market?
A lot of questions.

Of course add some IRS cost to claw back the evasion, plus raise the income taxes and raise the FICA tax ceiling and we are talking real dollars.
That would be more doable if the IRS wasn't being eviscerated.
