From the indictments against George III in the Declaration of Independence:

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

....For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:

....He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us....

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Richard. You have nailed it. The similarities are eerily prescient.

I can hear Congressman Raskin's reverence for and knowledge of the law, which I share. That's what is so heartbreaking-our fall into lawlessness. But my question to Rep. Raskin particularly is what now? We cannot just keep decrying this lawless regime? We must do something BOLD. No more speeches or "harshly worded letters." We ALL must act. We the people will protest, and Congress must shut it all down.

Hi Felice, you have raised the most important question we voters want to know the answer for. We are tired of congressman and journalists keep lecturing "what is wrong."

There is a public reading of the Declaration of Independence at Boston's Old State House every July 4 at 10 am. I suggest that every city, every state, every territory hold mass public readings of it. When you hear it, when you read it aloud, when you FEEL it in your heart, head and bones, you'll be ready to truly resist this terrible usurpation of our beloved and cherished democracy and government.

Brilliant interview with THE constitutional expert in all of government. Jamie Raskin is absolutely the best congressman of all. I wish he were my congressman. Instead, my so-called representative is deaf, dumb, mute and sleeping French Hill.

What an awesome quote from the Congressman. Trump doesn't know the Founding Fathers; probably couldn't even name one of them. But they sure knew HIM. I never thought this day would come in America. But what are we to do when Congress abdicates its duties? We need 400 more like the gentleman from Maryland.

We need to defeat some Republicans and elect more Democrats. We need to ‘grow’ the protests. If we can do that maybe we can persuade some Republicans not to destroy Medicaid, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act plus other important programs.

While it is horrible to see a Senator thrown to the floor and handcuffed for doing his job, isn’t it just as horrible to see ANY man, ANY human being treated with such disrespect? It appears that ICE is treating everyone this way. Disrespect for one person is disrespect of all of us.

Exactly, Yvette. That is exactly what Senator Padilla and many of his fellow California political leaders have said repeatedly today:

If the federal government will assault, drag away, force to the floor and handcuff a sitting California Senator in a federal building where he has an office, after he was escorted to the press conference by the FBI and members of Trump's administration and entered through an open door, and asked a question while identifying himself by name as a sitting senator, imagine what ICE does to day laborers, cooks, gardeners, waitresses, convenience store clerks and other less prominent members of our country with no criminal record who are just trying to earn a day's wages to support their families. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oRG5Pr6iBY

In keeping with the Trump administration's greatest skill: boldly lying to the general public night and day, Ms. Noem claimed that she did not know the senator and she thinks "everyone in America would agree" that "his behavior was inappropriate."

WRONG on both counts, Kristi. First, Senator Padilla is a member of the Senate Oversight Committee on Homeland Security--the department you are in charge of today. You were sworn into this job last January so you should have heard of him by now. You've appeared before the Senate and you sent ICE agents into California recently to "disappear" NON-CRIMINAL citizens with brown skin who may or may not be here legally. California only has two U.S. senators, but you don't know both of them by name?

It didn't matter if you knew Senator Padilla personally. He identified himself out loud standing near the front of your press conference. The people who grabbed and dragged him away heard him. The people who brought him into the room knew who he was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZSkhaLhIvk

Second, Senator Padilla is on the Senate Oversight Committee for Homeland Security. You were standing in front of TV cameras talking about a very tense, critical situation in Los Angeles that Donald Trump, Steven Miller, Tom Homan and you have deliberately tried to bring to a boiling point to the detriment of the people of LA, the state of California and eventually, the whole country...and you were LYING again, to the American people about what happened in LA.

Senator Padilla's job requires him to investigate your department. You were conducting a press conference and telling dangerous lies to America. What better time and what more qualified person to make you justify your lies? Most Americans who understood what happened do NOT agree with you, Kristi. And those who aren't paying attention deserve the truth, which they rarely get from the Trump Administration and its shockingly unqualified department heads.

How dare you say most Americans would agree with you when people all over America who are paying attention to your behavior are shocked and disgusted at the masked, unidentified "agents" grabbing innocent people off the streets, from school campuses, restaurants and even chasing fruit pickers across fields of strawberries. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hOev2uQtN8

We know your Nazi style raids have picked up recently because Stephen Miller screamed at your ICE agents that they weren't arresting enough undocumented criminals so they should increase the number of people they arrest/detain by going to Home Depots or Seven Eleven stores and finding more people. Arresting criminals has not been the goal of the Trump Administration recently. Arresting brown people to make Trump's quotas has been the goal.

Stop lying to us, Kristi. And stop sending masked men and women to swoop up unsuspecting, law abiding people with NO DUE PROCESS. Many Americans would have loved to hear you answer Senator Padilla's questons because we're tired of your lies.

This is a country of laws and we intend to keep it that way. Take your lies and your dictator-style masked goons out of LA until you learn how a democracy works, because we don't intend to give up ours for cruel, shameless, power hungry liars like you.

I love Raskin’s précis of the Constitution, which he knows and understands so well. His summary of what is happening in the House, the GOP, and the country is illuminating and strikes true. By any standard, he is a gifted orator, and he understands perfectly the functions of the various arms of the government.

We already know what is wrong. Time to do some thing. The leadership is starting at people’s level. Time for congress to join. Senator Cory Booker and Leader Jeffries showed what Gandhian/ MLK mode of resistance looks like . Only Jen Rubin covered it.. no one else . Pathetic !!! Let that be re-enacted nationwide ……. ASAP

Trump wants to bring manufacturing back to the United States. So far, he has manufactured innumerable falsities; unfounded charges and accusations against innocent people; unnecessary crises; an environment of fear and intimidation; an incompetent cabinet; and a dysfunctional government. This kind of manufacturing only hurts our great country...we don't need it.
