The United States of America has become an unsafe country for immigrants but is now becoming unsafe for American citizens. It’s probably best to remain silent if you’ve been detained illegally or unlawfully until you have an attorney present.

Thank you for having Steve Vladeck on to explain the legalities. He is clear and concise enough even for my old brain to understand.

Question for next time: Does each defendant have to file his own individual habeas petition? And if so, what happens to those without resources to hire lawyers since it's my understanding they are not entitled to have them provided by government?

I love the interviews about the lawsuits and courts--they're so educational. I learn stuff I never knew. The interviews are long, but I read the transcripts. I probably would not read an article on the topic--it would be too dry. Thank you.

Good interview. I was troubled to learn that government personnel can knowingly and lawlessly abduct individuals and ship to a prison in El Salvador and not be subject to any punishment other than "dont do that again". Having some form of deterence built into such a system seems like a no brainer.

ITMT, this gentleman who has been sent to El Salvadore wo due process awa in the face of a court ruling stating that he SHALL NOT be returned there due to threat of losing his life to the gang, may be killed before he gets the litigation he needs to escape this threat. This is MURDER and should be prosecuted as such. How can we ignore this truth?

What a fantastic discussion. Steve Vladeck brings great clarity to complex legal issues and it is a pleasure to get to hear his thoughts. His closing point about the limits that may exist to remedying past wrongs and the disincentive that places on forcing the Trump Administration into normalized behavior in the future is chilling.

Thank you Mr. Vladeck. I am glad there is significant legal pushback against this Administration, especially White House, DOJ, and DHS. I do worry that these entities will not do what the judicial system is telling them to do. We already know that this Administration does not possess any good faith whatsoever.
