Every one of these talks has value for each of us; I wish I had time to listen to or read each one. In this case, Sen. Warner putting budget cuts in terms of "in this incredibly wide swathe of Virginia between Roanoake and Bristol, no one will deliver your baby" brings the issue home to certain people.
When you hear all the talk of "have more babies!" and you have this going on at the same time, even the non-engaged voters should realize that somebody is full of shite. We don't all live in cities. We don't all have private medical care at our disposal. Messing with Medicaid is personal--for EVERY American.
I don't have kids and never will. But I want those who do to feel safe and be safe; that will improve life for me. It is absolutely not sustainable for only rich people in America to have access to healthcare. Babies are a great example, but come on. Extrapolate, people. We are all connected; all of our public health and welfare issues are connected. Ruin in one area will bring life as we know it down in every area. Thank you, Sen. Warner and Jen, for giving us one more example that we can relate to.
Great comment! I can't even express how angry I am, when someone with no morality or fidelity, and was convicted of sexual assault, tells us we should "have more babies." It's not only sexist and offensive on so many levels, but it's not even his own idea. It's part of the agenda of Kevin Roberts, mastermind of Project 2025, who is waging a religious war, and wants to outlaw abortion and contraception, so women will have no birth control options. I never though I would write this, but I guess it's back to coat hangers.
Thank you for defending Medicaid! 880billion will eviscerate almost all care to the poor, to pregnant women, children and the elderly. In my area 50% of pregnant women are covered by Medicaid. We cannot let this happen! Somehow this needs to be stopped. The infrastructure for working families needs to be preserved.
The first step to fixing our national debt issue is to reform our tax code so everyone pays their fair share, but of course, that is completely inconsistent with tax cuts for the wealthy. So we are stuck with Welfare for the Wealthy.
Disappointing lack of answer on question about Rubio. Rubio may be in a tough spot, but he put himself there. If supposed friends hesitate to call Rubio out on his change of position, then no one will. It's no different than all the other hold back of criticism.
I'm sure most of us totally agree with Senator Warner that "they fired the wrong guy because Pete Hegseth was, I think, a much more egregious effort". And it doesn't help matters that the only qualified Cabinet member, Marco Rubio, has turned into a total sycophant. I can see that no one is going to share all their security/military information with an Administration which doesn't even understand how communication works. I also don't understand how budget cuts can happen since the big 3 are tough to touch. So it seems the national debt will just continue on its astronomical path of destruction. Between a rock and a hard wall...
Great questions Jen. So sorry that senator warner didn't answer them. He needs to work to change the system and support his constituents above his Republican friends.
Didn't Lil Rubio respond to the illegal deportations to El Salvador with Oopsie retweet. Rubio is not just lying low. He's actively spreading the slime.
Good discussion although I wondered sometimes wondered, Jen, if you were putting Sen. Warner in a rough spot--he did try to answer without being too negative about his coworker. I appreciate all points made.

I believe that Trump and his administration have no humanity and couldn't care less about our safety and our lives.

Oh how I wish I could read a transcript to this video, and in fact of all your morning videos, which are too early for some of us on the West Coast.
click on the word 'transcript' just under the video to the right
There's also a transcript option at the top of the printed version, underneath the video screen.

I thought the same thing. Is there actual value to interviewing a politician? They are the masters of the non-answer.
I can’t listen to this “Republican friends” and poor little Marco horseshit any longer. People like him are the problem.

Superb journalism! Thank you!
Exactly, up a creek until Rs actually do something rather than just talk about it. Thank you Senator.
