These protests are SO important! They change the media narrative about the lack of resistance, which will in turn both empower more resistance and stiffen the spines of our Democratic electeds (who are feeling as overwhelmed as we are and need our help to find both courage and a strategy). I was at the protest in New York, organized by Rise and Resist. There were thousands of people there. Now we all have to do it again, and again, and again!

Thanks to all who ventured out to protest! Each time the numbers will grow. Thanks for posting pics. Too bad this wasn't front page news for all news sources, it should be. Americans need to see that they still have freedom of speech and the right to gather in protest. We need to show up each time until we have our country back.

It showed up in more places when media realized that this wasn't just one or two places, but all over the country. And it was covered by some overseas media as well! It showed our neighbors that we haven't lost control yet, and they are cheering us on.

Love all the pictures! THANKS! Here in little rural Montague, MI we had about 20 people show up with signs in 12 degrees and 20 mph winds - I didn't take any pictures, but we showed up as we were able.

About 1,000 of us showed up at the Minnesota State Capitol in serious Sub-Zero temperatures. And yes, this movement will continue to grow.

Any ideas as to why this is not being widely covered by legacy media? I was at a protest of thousands in Seattle and in the Seattle times (e-version) you had to scroll way down (below a piece about public school kids disliking their math curriculum among many others) to find an AP piece on nationwide protests with”hundreds” of people in Boston. Where is the coverage?

The US press was all tied up covering the Canadian airplane incident, because, serious as that was, nationwide protests against a coup taking place in their own country just wasn't quite compelling enough.

I guess we'll have to rethink our strategy for press coverage. If I recall correctly, I believe that gallows, flag poles, bats, chemical sprays, firearms, tasers, knives, and zip ties got their attention. Or, hold on, here's an idea... we could try sending out a protest action call for all individuals who have AT LEAST two missing teeth.

Other than that, I'm all out of ideas. <snark>

Remember that even we didn't know that this was going to explode the way it did until it happened. Coverage did spread after the fact as it became known how many of us were out there. Suggestion: take some good hi-res pics/videos if you can, and take or send them to you own media the same day as the events. The NEXT national protest will be even bigger, Especially without the blizzards... When I think of the time frame and the spontaneity and yet thousands of people came out in THAT weather, I am really impressed.

Contrarian, thanks for the coverage. Please in future amplify citizen demonstrations BEFOREHAND. You, and we, are on the same team fighting fascism. But we are putting our bodies in the street and your amplification could really help our numbers. Please help!

KJustine, this happened spontaneously and so many people showed up on short notice, I think we all were surprised. In the beginning, there was no sponsor: it was just an idea that took off. Contrarian couldn't have given a heads up for something like that! Which makes it all the more impressive that so many people came out- in often crummy weather. I am glad it happened the way it did because it showed our commitment and dedication without havin to even organize it.!

Hi Annie - Contrarian had plenty of notice for the Feb 17 event. They really did; multiple people tagged various Contrarian contributors multiple times beforehand, including the founders. And IMO, it's their JOB to know. I hope they amplify the upcoming March 4 march and others. Like you, I am heartened by the momentum of these early protests. Peace to you and in solidarity!!

I wrote both my republican senators and demanded they explain to me3 that all my personel information is being made accessible by musk without my express permission. That is MY data. I asked what the fuck is the matter with you?

I don't expect an answer but in my opinion, it is just as important to write your republican members of congress and express the not only no but hell no.

Bastards.

This was a great event. The temps were single digits in many places, with over a foot of snow to get through before they could occur, no exaggeration. Three weeks ago, 50501 didn't exist. We're trying and hopeful that this movement will encourage and remind others that they are not alone in their dismay.

We had back to back protests in Raleigh. First one is because the Republican candidate for NC supreme court lost and he's trying to get 60,000 votes thrown out.
