The defense of Harvard from attacks by the administration should be extended to every institution of higher learning because the attacks are illegal. It shouldn't matter that Harvard was the alma mater of John Adams or has international name recognition or is impossibly hard to get admitted to. A shiny distraction. It should be "hands off" whether it's Harvard or a college no one has heard of. Let's not go gaga about Harvard and miss the point about the illegality of the assault on higher education.

It is to be feared that at the end of the orange felon's dictatorship ( if there is such a thing), all the institutions of higher learning in this country will be second or third rate. No help is to be expected from the "supreme" court, which is more catholic than the old or new pope. Two of the six are totally corrupt and the other four appear to belong to the opus dei strain.

We are decades past the concept of decency in the trumposphere. It is gloating over cruelty.

Putrid. It sounds like the setup trump's been waiting for so he can declare martial law.

Perhaps I missed something. By what law does Mr, T have the right to withhold money from Harvard or anywhere else?

Please explain.

FF47 wants to give the money to trade schools. Some community colleges get supported by states and some local businesses. Nothing wrong with trade schools but students that are academically gifted should be in well funded universities. The need exists for ALL levels of education. There may be a need or reason to cut some funding but to completely cut them off is shameful and idiotic on the part of the president and homeland security.

The times we are experiencing will be remembered and studied as the depth of this nation’s depravity.

"Depth of depravity." That's definitely the right phrase.

This is informative, but it ends with a foregone conclusion—that Harvard is much diminished without its international students. But the court blocked implementation of the administration’s order.

Should we accept foregone conclusions of diminishment—of Harvard or the United States? What’s the point of this? Are other endings possible? What is the pathway to those endings?

It is a dreadful moment in history. Harvard will be hurt as all of us will be except the billionaires. But it will be rebuilt. It will. The pendulum will swing back....

What will happen when the son or daughter of a Qatari sheik or a Saudi sheik wants to attend Harvard? Or the child of some European leader Trump is courting for one of his beautiful tariff deals? We have to think he'll cave again.

Hard to equate denying foreign students admission to Harvard with the cruelty of removing children from SNAP, but that’s not to say we have to choose one or the other as an issue to focus on. Trump, no doubt, has some personal reason for choosing to target Harvard — it’s always personal with him. My guess is that it appears to strike at the heart of elitism which helps him with his populist image as he corruptly amasses riches for himself, his family and friends. The awarding of the Harvard money to trade schools is just the cherry on top. History will decide if adding a few more technicians while foregoing the opportunity to cure cancer or solve some other societal problem was worth it. Harvard is right to fight. Let’s hope it wins.
