Will you please look at the terms of the tri partisan (agreement with Democrat, Republican, and Independent) reached months before the election, that t rump demanded that the Republicans vote against so t rump could use it as a tool for reelection. I never hear about that agreement anymore. I have not been able to look at that agreement, but if we had passed that we would have avoided the nightmare of t rump's masked gestapo on our streets and communities generating fear and anxiety by everyone, citizens alike. Let's bring that to the forefront now and in the future.
I'm sure even the Republicans would think that was a reasonable resolution to the problem of immigration reform rather than fining us now in t rump's nightmare. Let the Democrats use that as a basis of their election platform.
I really appreciated the short, to the point, with very relevant questions, video/transcript. My main concern at this time is not fixing the immigration problem. It is retaining/supporting/keeping law and due process and human rights in the forefront. "Law enforcement" with masks and no IDs?? Grabbing people anywhere and anytime??? Detention without any access to lawyers and family?? The current situation has devolved from any civilized discussion of immigration process. It is now a discussion of following law, the kind of law democracies are supposed to have.
I'dd like you to review the bipartisan committee on immigration chaired by Senatorrs Langford and Murphy that had come to policy for a vote in the House. Trump called Mitchell- this was before the election as I recall- and told him not to bring it up after several years of hammering out an agreement in the Senatoe. Trump said he wanted full credit for immigration policy and what we see is Steve Miller was pushing for the cruelty measure to predominate as the terrorism he favors to assert the might of dictators that is unquestioned. We were there I believe for what thewe speakersw present and I'd like to see you discuss the actual proposed legislation that Trump/Miller thwrted- also to be able to falsely say Biden had done nothing but allow an open border. Biden was eager for the bi-partisan committee to achieve his goal.
I hate saying this but I think it is almost useless to put forth a plan which is based on logic or common sense or what is good for the country. Immigration tactics at the moment are 100% performative (look at the storming of that park in LA with horses, helicopters, etc), with maximum cruelty and damage intentionally permitted, maximum testosterone, placating those who are addicted to the dopamine thrill that violence and power give them. Nothing much is going to break through the cloud of blood soaked emotion and the need for vengeance that has arisen out of racist lies (they are criminals, they eat dogs etc) that they perpetuate to drown out facts and truth. Added to that are Republican congresspeople frozen in fear and greed. Keep thinking -- if you can come up with a plan that will intrigue Trump and assuage or fulfill his savior syndrome, his insatiable ego needs, his fear of being "found out", his greed for money that also saves undocumented souls and keeps families together and working, that might be useful. But, pardon the imagery, it will fall as flat as a limp dick if you try to base it on reason or the law or anything "good" like compassion for farmers (Stephen Miller squashed that proposal in a heartbeat--he is the real ice behind ICE).
Neera has excellent responses on how to fix the broken immigration system without resorting to lawlessness and the inhumanity being shown by the Trump regime. People who have been here for 20 years and no threat to anyone should have a path to citizenship and Repatriating people who don’t have legitimate asylum claims.

I see a previous comment has asked for the same.

The Big Ugly Bill puts a hard cap of 800 immigration judges. That is a number so low that it will make the backlog much worse. That is intentional.
There are many intentional moves which are stomach turning in this bill. None of it makes us more safe, more economically stable, more respected.
It would’ve been nice if they said what their proposals actually were
I really don't have a problem with immigration at all. What's wrong with just letting people come?
