This presentation brought tears to my eyes. How important it is for today's youth to know how their ancestors have served in wars around the globe to preserve our democracy with many making the ultimate sacrifice. And their families trying to figure out how to go on without them. So many lives affected, so many tears shed, so much strength shown.
And now today's kids are being asked to serve in a different way, at home, in protests, getting involved by communicating with representatives and senators to let them know what is not acceptable and what they, as citizens, expect from those we elected to serve us. It never ends. Democracy lived strong treats all equally and provides many benefits, but it is fragile and needs all of us, especially our youth, to use every tool in the toolbox to defend it. We have a lot of work ahead of us.
This was the most important piece I've seen from the Contrarian since I subscribed. I am educated and informed to a degree, and still I did not know so much about Memorial Day and what Trump has done to the Pentagon structure. The latter is truly THE most important focus in preserving our democracy; the news should be lasered on it. I so appreciate it, Katie and Paul. I'll be thinking about it all day and beyond.
But, as I write this, Donald Trump consolidates his power. Robert Reich, columnist for the Guardian, said today that there is language in the bill they are trying to pass that will make it easier for him to ascend to become America's first king.
And, the way I see it:
1. Congress is doing nothing. Absolutely and positively nothing.
2.The democratic party is taking a pen knife to a fight using automatic assault weapons (readily available most anywhere) and, like congress, is doing nothing.
3. Our mainstream media drowns us in finger pointing and Whataboutism after Whataboutism, being careful to avoid at all cost any discussion about just how close America is in replacing its democracy with its first Fascist state.
4. Our "supreme" court has given Trump immunity.
5. Trump, in his oval office meetings with Ukraine and South Africa have given all Americans something to be truly ashamed of.
6. Big business ( Walmart, Target, Amazon) dump DEI, thus piling higher our shame for what our country has become.
7. In foolish rage he (America's answer to Agent Orange) trashes all those around him (friend and foe alike) with absurd tariffs and bad manners to the point that even those who voted for him are now looking at themselves in the mirror and asking "why"? Allies are now also asking the same question.
In less than a half of a year our new president has made America unrecognizable

(Top shelf production on this!!!) Thank you for all you do! Peace
Very moving and hope-making. Thank you both. Just donated to TAPS Ukraine. Thank for adding that.
Saying thank you, thank you is not enough.
Wiping tears away.
Thank you Paul & Katie.
And, a most heartfelt thanks to those who gave their lives, their future and the family they lost or never had.
They are preparing.
