Jen Rubin is joined by Pennsylvanian Congresswoman Madeleine Dean to talk through the impending government shutdown and the devastating effects the Trump-Musk regime has had on the economy.
With thanks for the coverage, Jen and Congresswoman Dean. And, Congresswoman Dean, for the concern for your constituents and time given to them. If only I were so lucky in lower Texas to have the House Representatives I voted on.
Understand that everyone is seriously pissed at Schumer for approving the CR. Your main criticism, Jen, is that this gives Trump a blank check to ignore Congress's spending directions. However, this may not be a complete blank check at all. On the other hand, if the government were shut down, Schumer is correct that Trump would have legally had the power and authority to spend the government's money completely as he wished and no court would have been able to stop him.
Democrats who voted for the CR made a defensible choice in an impossible situation. A shutdown would have enabled DOGE raiders to pillage agencies and fire workers with no trail of evidence and no one watching. Court proceedings to hold Trump-Musk accountable would come to a halt if no one were available to produce evidence. If Trump didn’t get his shutdown, his backup win is what we’re seeing: Democrats and allies turning on each other. So stop it! The focus must stay on Trump-Musk and their treasonous acts.
I enjoy meeting leaders such as Madeleine Dean through your interviews and hearing about how they are working for their constituents’ and demanding representation for them. I would not know about them otherwise. Thank you.
The silent "good" GOP makes me think they are following orders ... which makes me think of the Nuremberg trials after WWII in which "just following orders" was not a defense.
The biggest corruption by Drumpt may be his emoluments cause crime of his cryptocurrency which the whole world can purchase and come to him and say, “See here, I am one of your biggest supporters, we would to have the weapon or the treaty or the favor given to us.”
Thank you for this interview, Jen! Violation of law seems the key to why CR shouldn’t have passed. Now that CR has passed, Trump and Elon have carte blanche and the power of the purse. Constituents overwhelmingly asked Dems not to pass this CR. Picky point: Background noise during this recording was a problem.

I’m so discouraged and angry
