Please take a moment of silence for Gilbert, the beloved golden retriever of Melissa and Tom Hortman, currently lying in state at the Minnesota State Capitol with Melissa and Tom. https://www.startribune.com/melissa-hortman-dog-gilbert-shooting-mark-hortman-minnesota/601374091

Suzanne, here is a link to X that will allow you to see the Hortmans and Gilbert lying in state at the Minnesota State Capitol. I never joined X and I can access the photos so you should be able to see them.

This is what is says about sweet Gilbert:

"There is also a Dog Honor guard on hand, with 12 golden retriever service dogs rotating to make sure Gilbert has two dogs standing guard throughout the day."

Oh my, how wonderful to read about the Dog Honor Guard! Perfect! I know they are all communing in the essence realm. I have had two service dogs, my third, Finnegan, is still with me. Thank you to the people who are honoring all the Hortmans including Gilbert and who arranged for the Dog Honor Guard. Terrific.

Unfortunate paywall. We all grieve for beloved pets that had to be euthanized too soon

Thank you for honoring Gilbert who died trying to defend his human family. It is all such a terrible tragedy. We are very grateful to hear that Gilbert is lying in state along with humans at the MN State Capitol. Bless you all. Don't you love how dogs wear their hearts on their sleeves? What you see is what you get. Emily's good energy jumps out of her ... and right into us. Although dogs may not have a choice, what they share with us is enormously generous: their attention, their presence, their bodies. As hard as it is to raise dogs, they give us so much more than we can give back.

Emily! My eternal gratitude. And all the pre-loved toys you can get your jaws on :)

Can’t beat that comment. There’s nothing like a BFF when it’s your own family member and just so gorgeous! Love it!

What a cutie. It's obvious just looking at her that she would get reviews of "the best dog in the whole wide world" from even multiple, multiple peer-reviewed studies!

Miss Emily looks like she's always thinking 10 steps ahead, as they all do. She's a good looking girl!

I think mixed breed dogs are much easier to get along with than pure-bred ones. Emily is a pretty example of the best of all her breeds.

I need to make an appointment, please, so that I may be a part of the next peer-reviewed study. I have an extensive background in petsitting, specializing in soft, slow massage and nose booping.
