Medicaid supplies a minimal check for mentally ill people that cannot function in life. It is simply horrendous. This gets personal for a family member! It is shameful and an outrage for all the people affected that this administration and GOP does not give a shit about.
Amazing development in Omaha Nebraska! I didn’t think there were any Democrats there. That story reminds me that just less than a year ago I used to listen to local talk radio before coming to Substack. The host is a former conservative state senator and attorney. State and national politics were often discussed. Some of the topics I could agree with but many I disagreed with. Many times I would get on the text line and push back on what I did not agree with. By listening to this host, I learned how so many bad policies in my state became laws of my state. It is amazing what you can learn from listening to local talk radio especially if a former politician is the host.
I have a developmentally impaired family member who worked at McDonald’s for years-had to rely on Medicaid because she never received FT employment because then they’d have to provide benefits! I repeatedly contacted my Gop congressman begging for no cuts because of people like her-got the same stupid response how people need to work in order to receive benefits - as if the working poor aren’t working harder than the bonehead congress! Infuriating!!
It must be noted those who were arrested at the Capitol yesterday were advocates from ADAPT - Medicaid is their lifeline! As they were in wheelchairs - one was blind - they were brought to the parking garage of the Capitol to be arrested.
Hope you talk on this infusion of white South afrikaners( probably past supporters of apartheid) fast forwarded thru asylum process while Afghans who helped us in war now probably being deported back to be killed. Disgustingly!!!
Thanks for the coffee discussions, but I was a bit disapointed today.
I was expecting some comment on the judge in PA who ruled that Trump
could use the AEA to deport people in PA. This seems like a major development (to my non-lawyer brain). I know it is too late for this coffee, but I would really like to hear your opinions on this - is it significant, will it likely be overturned higher up, or expanded elsewhere now that the door has opened a crack? Thanks
As a new subscriber, I want to compliment The Contrarian for your emphasis on solutions!! We read about the horrible problems everywhere, but The Contrarian always gives me hope. I am a political scientist who wrote a book about civil society focused on South Africa, Argentina and Tajikistan. Also wrote a fairly new paper on democratic civil society in the United States. (in alliance with Ruth Ben Ghiat's observation that Italy under Mussolini did not have that!) Both a complimentary e copy of my book and a short piece called
Revitalizing Democracy about democratic civil society in the United States are available on my website here. www.importingdemocracy.org
Yes that’s why I love the Contrarian, they give you what you can do to help, and you know your subscription is going towards the litigation for pro democracy lawsuits.

Thank you I love coffee with you,and thanks for mentioning Omaha's new democratic mayor I woke up to this too as my first post on opening my phone❤️👏🏻
I hope felon Trump and his family can be stopped from all the person grift, plane, hotels, golf courses, etc
Remember when President Obama returned a BOOK because he didn’t want the appearance of impropriety? https://www.facebook.com/ukbackineu/posts/pfbid07EcNH5csEiPDBMsza6vYP5cUqWcDGS1kijam4rpTXiFUwFAGVPoa9sA95iWT8tzJl

Trump is collecting gifts in the Middle East while people losing their health care are being arrested in the House of Representatives.

You are the legal experts that I always turn to! Keep up the amazing work!

I love the Contrarians, Jen, Norm, and Katie , too! Thanks for all that you do for us. You give me hope in these tough times.
Judge J. Michael Luttig wrote a blistering article in 'The Atlantic' entitled:
"The End of Rule of Law in America"
"The 47th president seems to wish he were king—and he is willing to destroy what is precious about this country to get what he wants."
It is something to read. Magates are going to lose their minds.
I enjoy very much the sanity of The Contrarian. I hope you’ll take a look at what’s happening at the Library of Congress. Another trump absurdity!
Clarity opposed to the Repub shxt show!

Steve Vladeck had very good coverage of it today (yesterday):
