There is no dearth of bad policies and actions these days but I think that to fear being rounded up and "disappeared" is the worst. I've lived in Communist countries and was very grateful that my parents took us out to the land of the brave and the free. It is no longer that kind of land. Added to that state of living in terror has been the betrayal of Afghan allies. We absolutely have to vote in a totally different Congress and then a different executive branch.

Good conversation.

Related: the immigration story covered first by The Bulwark, being picked up by other outlets (although not the major outlets, at least not yet): the disgustingly antisemitic social media history of one of Trump's Afrikaners, admitted with great fanfare when they arrived at Dulles Airport yesterday.

This particular character is a man named Charl Kleinhaus. Kleinhaus was widely quoted in the national press as a farmer (apparently he was a mine-owner, but he says he was a farmer; and who knows, maybe it's true).

But none of the national news accounts cited his social media history, although by now, following the lead of The Bulwark, the story is beginning to make its way into the mainstream. They merely quoted his gratitude to Trump and his claim to have been targeted with racist violence and persecution by the South African government.

There is no evidence the violence or persecution ever actually occurred, but of course everyone who petitions for refuge in the US has the right to tell their tale. The job of the government is to sift out the truth, and not merely to measure the melanin content of the applicant's skin.

The arrival of the Afrikaners, in a moment when deportations of innocents (many of whom have lived here for many years) continue to escalate, happened in the same week when Donald accepted the gift of a $400 million "flying castle" from Qatar. a major sponsor of Hamas.

Ironic, considering that Donald's administration is actively harassing, kidnapping, incarcerating, and threatening to deport students who are merely suspected of being sympathetic to Hamas.

If the country ever wakes up---a big if---there will be quite the day of reckoning for the Republicans.

But wasn’t it touching to see those refugees stumbling off the plane, dazed and grateful to the American taxpayers who paid for their flight and for other largesse to come, limping and wounded from what they’ve suffered, thin, emaciated, with nothing but the ragged clothes on their backs . . . oh, wait a minute — we don’t take those kinds of refugees anymore, do we?

Deportations via 3 Boeing 787-800's flying.began again ✈️✈️✈️ out of a Mesa Gateway Airport south of Phoenix AZ.

Last weekend ,locals in Mesa, AZ noticed some 'ICE' building up on the wings of AVELO AIRLINES (XP) at the Mesa Airport (AZA) in warm weather.

Locals outed AVELO AIRLINES as the new cross border contractor for HSI. The U.S. Government has definitely resumed deportations confirmed by AVELO Airlines itself.

Back in April 2025 that Avelo signed a contract with Department of Homeland Security, But, XP (Avelo) refused to produce a contract copy to the Associated Press on Monday. The first flight out was #48.

Avelo's HQ is at 12 Greenway Place in Houston Texas, The Founder & CEO of Avelo (XP) is ANDREW LONG the former CFO of United Airlines.

STOP body snatching by Avelo, Andrew Long or any one else!

Such a thoughtful and insightful discussion. I particularly liked the comments that the Pope is a non-political position ... and when others call out a Pope that stands for humane, compassionate treatment of others ... well,, it says much more about those calling out the Pope.

Anyone who has broken any law should live in fear (here, of being deported). That's a fundamental principle of all civilized democracies. How can anyone reasonably argue otherwise? How can anyone reasonably argue that immigration laws are an exception? The only ones who could legitimately argue for an exception to that fundamental principle of democracies are those who argue for the elimination of national borders. Is that what Espina espouses, open borders? If so, say so.

Our immigration laws need to be changed so that there are far fewer such lawbreakers but that's irrelevant to the standing of those who have violated our immigration laws. They are illegal aliens and should live in fear.

Someone please explain if and how Miranda Rights relate in any way to seizures of human beings in the USA . Whether these people are documented, undocumented , citizens or non- citizens etc. Also. How do the arresting ICE or other arresting people know the status of these people.

If a person is read their Miranda Rights does that then lead to the right to legal representation in the USA?

Thanks. Eliza
