I wonder whether the attack on NOAA is a result of the Felon making such a complete fool of himself, during his first administration, when he pulled out his magic marker or when said: maybe a nuclear bomb could solve the hurricane. Such an idiot.
People are going to die because of this. Maybe president Musk should look at fixing his rockets before attacking government agencies that actually save lives.
No one with halfway decent management skills - or common sense - cuts programs or staff without first determining that the savings will exceed the cost. But Trump has neither. People keep blaming Musk, but Trump is the “CEO” who hired these know-nothings.
I am no stranger to tornadoes. On April 27, 2011 we had a tornado outbreak in the southern states. Extreme damage as well as casualties at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa main campus. The power grid in North Alabama took a major hit and we were out of power for about 4 days other areas were out for nearly a month. Several states were here helping to rebuild the power grid in most all of northern Alabama. Schools were canceled for the remainder of the year. If we had not had the best meteorologists in our area then we certainly would have seen many more casualties than we did. It it absolutely foolish to dismantle NOAA.
This is what most people who distrust government and feel there needs to be cutbacks. Of course there are better ways to run a railroad. But this “railroad” is simply the best means of protecting the public. Answer this question: How can you better protect the interests of 335 million citizens? It’s a complex situation and tearing it apart person by person, particularly by a prejudiced and self-serving person like Elon Musk is not only unfair. It’s criminal.
another vicious and useless firing. I hope that NWS will take this to court to have the firings reversed and get a restraining order for any further destructive action. (please tell me they have already!)
This would be tragic, along with all the other damage they’re causing! Ordinary people like myself check the weather all the time for safety reasons. I could not imagine not having this tool at my fingertips and for those fingertips of farmers, pilots, schools, truckers, parents…
It’s amazing to me that this is even under discussion, but that’s true of many of the cuts. Preserving lives doesn’t seem to be an important goal here.
What a stupid and vicious action by our President who somehow incorrectly believes our meteorologists somehow cause an emphasis on climate warming, confusing weather predictions for safety and knowledge preparation with global warming emphasis.
The thing that jumps out to me the most is that we have been getting this service for "about $4 a year." I would like to see more information like this, as well as how the author arrived at this amount. My wife is making a round-trip by air this week, and I'm making one next week. $4 is a hell of a bargain for providing the best available information to ensure that those flights are safe. And given all of the other benefits, hidden and obvious, that is likely to be right there with the best $4 any of us spend in any year. This information should be plastered everywhere. Our tax dollars at work -- and working their asses off. What do we roughly pay to support cancer research? I've gotten at least 25 more years of my dad from that research. I'm not sure how to put a dollar amount on that, but I'm pretty sure that if someone were to tease out how much of my taxes have gone into cancer research, I feel like I had gotten my money's worth. Or how much do we each kick in annually for our public land management agencies? Given how poorly they are already funded and staffed, not much. There must be a breakdown of where our tax dollars go available somewhere. If not, somebody should come up with one and share it widely. Having that kind of information would make it a lot easier to have productive conversations with folks that think the whole government is a boondoggle that's constantly screwing them over. And those are the conversations that we need to have to get us out of this mess.

As a mariner, sometimes far from land, I'm dreading what Musk in his greediness and Trump in his foolishness will do my safety and that of my friends.

Are pilots and air traffic controllers getting the accurate weather reports they need?
Just another example of the slow unraveling of our country.

Trump and sycophants do not care one iota about our lives. These actions are inhumane and criminal to me.
