Yesterday, thousands of Americans—including dozens of members of Congress—rallied peacefully outside the Treasury Department to voice their outrage over Elon Musk being handed the keys to the Executive Branch.
And thousands more rallied today at state capitals across the country. We need our reps to know we expect them to stand up and be visible and active in defense of the people.
I am told that mailboxes are full, and that they ignore emails. Snail mail doesn't address the shifting questions. The insularity of our public officials reflects a high tech world where they are still using the abacus.
They at least tally emails. I try calling. If I can’t get through I leave voicemail. If voicemail is full I use Resistbot to send email. My emails usually get a reply.
I got a personal response from my Senator. I was really surprised, but he’s a new one, so he hasn’t gotten overwhelmed yet. I’m so lucky to have Cory Booker and Andy Kim as my Senators.
You are lucky! Up here in NH out two female Democrat Senators both supported Bessent to head the Treasury, thus handing over the keys to Felon Musk. They are MIA now, nothing but auto responses to emails, no staff at one regional office where their website says open all day, no appt needed. GGGGRRRRRRR! Enough of this go along to get along BS!
I have heard that often letters go into the trash bin and no one can get through when they call. I guess it depends on the Congress person. Amy Klobuchar's staff always sends an acknowledgement (form letter) immediately in response to my emails. Then Amy follows up with a letter to the people who commented about a certain issue. She describes how she is dealing with it. Amy has clout and she uses it well. She knows how to handle bullies.
Try using the 5 Calls app. thru your cellphone. It will connect you to your senators/representatives, and it provides a sample script for five top issues. After the call it returns you to the list of people to call.
Find their local office and pay their staff a visit. That's what I am doing here in Houston. I am even wearing a MAGA hat so they don't blow me off as a "lib."
Show up at your lawmakers' local office (it's easy to look up--they have multiple offices in your state) and provide your name and zip code and tell them in your own words how you feel about having an unelected billionaire taking over our government servers, firing people, destroying whole departments. You don't have to send email or try to bust through the busy signals or go to an organized protest. Just go to the office and walk in.
We did this in 2016 against Barbara Comstock in northern Virginia. Dozens of us would show up at her local office or downtown to air our issues and protest. We dumped Comstock in 2018, with help from changing demographics in her district.
YES...the main stream media IS now filtered to TRUMP suing them !! ....it is up to you and me and BlueSky communicating and ALL the brave journalists who have picked up the baton .... the energy is CHANGING.... :)
Shauna, yes, it’s up to you and me. We each have a voice. Today I put my American flag back out on my front porch. My house is on a heavily walked street to the waterfront near where I live. I also prominently put out a hand-made sign on my front porch. It reads:
SILENTIUM
EST
CONSENTSU
CALL: 202-224-3121
At 75, I figure there are worse ways to die than by getting shot in my yard (:
I welcome constructive dialogue with neighbors and passersby to fix the many problems we have to make America and our world good for everyone.
ESP moment! I called Jamie Raskin's office today to give my appreciation of him, and asked him why he hadn't run for President - and I would vote for him in a hot minute.
I will add that he is so darned articulate. Are we ready for a Jewish president? That would be such a test of our country's faith in diversity, equity and inclusion!!
I’m ready for a woman, a Jewish person, any race or religion, or gender as long as they have the ability to be our president. Donald Trump is not a person I would ever have voted for.
We had a Catholic president (Kennedy) at a time when the country wasn't ready for one. Can you imagine bands marching down Pennsylvania Avenue playing klezmers? Hopefully, by then my clarinet playing skills will be good enough for me to participate.
Bwahaha! You got me at klezmers. Love it! And have the highest regards for Jamie Raskin. Brilliant, and a kind, k8nd man. But no pushover. Steel rod in that spine. ♥️
Just keep your mind open and hope that someone who is competent and knows how to reach and inspire people on both sides of the aisle runs. Raskin would probably be great, but keep your mind open rather than focusing on someone who seems perfect, but who might not want to run. After losing his mother to cancer when she should have had a lot of life left in her, losing his child, and facing cancer diagnoses twice, Jamie might want to have a lengthy retirement from politics.
I agree that it is too soon to get fixated on a presidential candidate. We also need to remember that we need leaders in the Senate, in the House, in the governorships, and in the state legislatures.
As Donald Sutherland said in a movie, "too many negative waves" Please think more positively and join the fight for democracy. You will be in good company.
It does seem that we have to put forward a straight, white man for president if we want a win. Sad, and frustrating, but that feels like where we are at right now.
I don't know for certain that that's the case. My point is that people should keep their minds open rather than focusing on someone who seems perfect to them. I knew Jamie Raskin's mother, and my brother and sister in law live in his district, and he is one of the better politicians, but I just think it's a good idea to keep one's mind open about presidential candidates.
I can tell you that it was deeply frustrating to me that Kamala Harris didn't win. I probably had the first HARRIS bumper sticker in the country. The morning after Biden passed the torch, I made it--a somewhat laborious process as my printer was malfunctioning--and scotch taped to my rear bumper.
As for women leading countries, I come from a family where there have been a lot of competent women. My mother, her sister, and their mother had PhDs--which my grandmother got in 1915, and my sister, a public health nurse, organized the vaccination for COVID of everyone in Fairfax County VA.
And there have been some great heads of state who were women, including Claudia Sheinbaum, the Jewish head of Mexico, Golda Meir (Israel), and Queen Elizabeth, who was really what I would call a ceremonial head of state, but she did a damn good job of it and she had a wicked sense of humor. Here's an example of that.
Love Jamie Raskin. The education he does is my prescription for all the cultural DEIs I know with a deep interest to getting their citizenship tries on record. And of course, I couldn’t live without my daily dose of MSNBC.
I was there, too. I wanted elevation, so I went to the stairs, knowing I'd be behind the speakers. Jamie Raskin ended up right next to me for about 30 minutes. We chatted. Amazing. I shook hands with Jasmine Crocket, Aryanna Presley, and could almost touch all the speakers. Elon Musk is NOT elected, and he and the Felon are engaging in highly illegal activities. And a coup.
Just talked w my 88yr old friend in Cambridge who joined the Boston protest. She told me she had to leave because she got too cold, but as she was going many others were coming shouting “f#€k Musk!!”
At 77 I would’ve gone myself, but I broke my hip last week but I’ve been writing up a storm on email. As I said somewhere else. I don’t care who has my name, make a martyr of me I don’t care.
And today a grassroots “organization” under the label “50 protests - 50 states” did just that; I. e., facilitating protests in the capitals of all 50 states and several other large cities. I just returned from the protest in OKC. Inspiring. I was glad to see so many people standing with signs, chanting, and cheering in defense of our democracy. We will need many more such protests if we are going to defeat fascism here in the United States.
I had to leave early but my husband stayed - he said that once they got to the expressway that they were met by some military types who refused to say where they were from . Be sure to come back on Saturday. This needs more publicity. I broke down and posted on Facebook.
We need to develop a rapid response for encounters like these shadowy military types Joanne's husband encountered. Remember what happened in Portland late in the first Trump regime. Undercover federal marshalls illegally arresting protesters. I live on the other coast from Oregon, but plan to be much more vigilant this time around. If we can't be there locally, we can be on here for each other. And if they do visit locally, undercover, and try that cute crap, well, two can play at that game. I can get cute and go undercover, too, laughing in their faces the whole time!
Thanks David! I was thrilled by the size of the crowd, given the deep-red politics of our stare. Look for us to continue to stir up “a little good trouble” down her - you folks in MA do the same!
I just called my Representative and said that I'm in favor of impeaching Donald Trump now for treason, emoluments clause violations, and the illegal activity such as allowing Elon Musk and his tech bros access to private citizens Social Security Numbers and Bank Account Numbers.
TELL YOUR SENATORS TO STOP THE PROCEEDINGS until the ongoing COUP is stopped and MUSK ET AL are ARRESTED and COMPUTERS SEIZED NOW!!!!! If this coup were bloody, do you really think these hearings would continue??????
The madman who occupies the White House has turned over the government to a narcissistic car dealer. Both trump and musk are trampling on the Constitution and on the laws meant to protect each and every American citizen and resident. The media is supine. Members of Congress are cowardly. Who will put an end to this vile gaggle of autocrats?
Thank you, Jennifer. You'd hardly know about any protests -- in Washington, in state capitals, or anywhere else --- by reading The Washington Post.
About bloody time for Democrats to stop bringing wooden spoons to a shiv fight. These people are here to finish the insurrection they tried to jumpstart in 2021. We must help Democrats (and any conscientious Republican still alive) to gum the works up totally. We will lose our republic otherwise.
I think the protests will need to be a balance between doing things that attract media and not giving an excuse for martial law. Right now, it would be cops who don't want to be part of this, but if Hegseth purges rationality from the military, they will be right there alongside Musk's junior crew.
I agree with that. While rallies alone won't stop the Musk Presidency and Trump's attempted, illegal decrees, they are a part of it, but in a way that doesn't give them an excuse (read=quarter) for an attempted crackdown. If the latter cannot be avoided, there are ways to do it that make the other side look ludicrous. Which they are. For my part, I won't say what I will or won't do, except this: I have no hesitation in aiding and abetting a peaceful protester who needs refuge. Careful, Trump/Musk and allies in Congress, cabinet, etc.
Seeing the video of this demonstration in front of Treasury brought me to tears of happiness. It's premature to feel relieved, but it makes me feel hope. We have a long road ahead of us, but that so many people are standing up and protesting - including finally some of our elected officials - gives me hope. I have been calling my Democratic senators every day. Call their local offices because the DC phone mail boxes are full. And make separate calls for each unfit nominee you're urging them to vote against. Separate calls for RFK Jr, Gabbard, and Vought. Congressional staffers log constituent calls individually; you want each of your views to be counted.
Sign up for Indivisible's emails - they send actions steps every week and they do a zoom every Thursday that is very motivating. This demonstration was organized by Indivisible!
Also, donate to the wonderful lawyers who are fighting this coup - Democracy Forward, Public Citizen, and Citizens for Responsibility & Ethics in Washington are great groups. They are suing the Trump admin constantly and they need our support.
No votes for Dems who cooperate with tyranny! We need complete and total unity-in-opposition. Shut down the Senate; obstruct everything the MAGA-GOP does. 100%. To any Dem who's reading this: vote with tyranny, and you vote yourself out of office. Period. There's a coup going on and you better start acting like it.
If, in fact these are treasonous acts, if what we have been seeing on the TV is a coup, one would think the Justice Dept. should step in and, at the very least, look it over?
I, for one, want to hold both Trump and Musk accountable, publicly. NOW!
Right but Trump’s Justice Department is not about to go after these treasonous traitors but help enable them. My understanding is that only the courts can stop them through a lengthy process that eventually involves federal marshals enforcing the edicts of the courts. The courts are our last bulwark to complete authoritarian takeover.
Anyone who does not think this a life and death situation is not paying attention. Musk, with obvious approval from Frump is methodically attacked key parts of the government. This is a coup, or war. I depend on my SS checks, and now clearly Musk, if he was so motivated, could simply "pause" my benefits. My US Senator caved on all the terrible appointments and clearly is afraid to take a stand. As I told her office yesterday, history will judge you harshly Joni.
Not necessarily. Records of peole who have applied for citizenship are sealed. We only have his word. And that's worth zero. He lies, he steals, he purposely ruins people's lives (he caused the original inventor of Tesla to get fired -- and check out what he's doing to us lately).
Fine. Revoke his citizenship and then deport him. He was flying under false colors when he entered the country in the first place, and should have been denied citizenship then.
Today, Day 16 of the fascist Coup against America, 300 very angry marchers from across progressive groups showed up at the Rhode Island State House in windy, 20 degree weather.
They made angry speeches and pledged solidarity. Few knew each other before the march.
This is how our nation wide protest movement starts. Small numbers will multiply exponentially. There is so much to be angry about.
And when we see the backlash from Trump and his military, be prepared to make "good trouble". We are not afraid.
As a Canadian, I am really glad to see that finally Americans are protesting in the streets. It took a bit of time, but the last two weeks have been so horrendous and disasterous not only for the United States but for its neighbours and allies, that Americans have come to the conlusion that this is a very scary time and that they have to fight back. I support their efforts as do a great many Canadians and hope that they can sustain their grassroots efforts long enough to take back the Senate and the House in the near future, before it's too late. Patricia Bowles, BC Canada
And thousands more rallied today at state capitals across the country. We need our reps to know we expect them to stand up and be visible and active in defense of the people.

You are indeed! I love them both, especially Cory Booker!
I am also blessed to have Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla as mine!
Let’s Go! California! We both love our Senators 🤩👏
They still both have two voting for nominees - one of which was attack dog fascist Marco Rubio who is all in for dismantling USAID.
Cory Booker voted in favor of one nominee or another, which shocked and saddened me. Couldn't believe that from him.
He hounded me to donate to him - and then capitulated to the Republicans by voting for unqualified nominees. SO disappointed
Maybe they got one of those "quit or else" letters! LOL!
No LOL about it.
Except when Cory votes for nominees.
They are both confirming Trump's cabinet nominees. It's disgusting.
love cory booker.
Senator Scott at least tallied my email. He started sending me his newsletter.
LOL! In the early 2000s's my senator responded to my pleas for help with an autographed picture. Unfortunatly it wasn't worth much....
The newsletter showed he was directly FOR everything I had advised him to not do. It was also hard to unsubscribe. I ended up calling it SPAM.
I let them continue to waste their money sending mail to me.
I get a little chuckle every time something arrives. Got to grab on to every chuckle I can find.
Resist not works, pick the email option. They will count it
I have heard that often letters go into the trash bin and no one can get through when they call. I guess it depends on the Congress person. Amy Klobuchar's staff always sends an acknowledgement (form letter) immediately in response to my emails. Then Amy follows up with a letter to the people who commented about a certain issue. Love Amy. My new senator is Alissa Slotkin. I love her too!
She voted for the Laken Riley act and a number of other trump nominees. Needs to be called on that.
Use 5 Call app, or just call, leave voice mail with name/ address. Emails to reps are just dumped. Calls are counted.
I'm getting replies from 2 of 3 (the third is the Senate minority leader).
Sen. Ricketts (Nebraska) has had a full voice mailbox for two days. I used his online contact page instead.
It reflects a world in the half-light of fear, where truth is never told.
Show up at your lawmakers' local office (it's easy to look up--they have multiple offices in your state) and provide your name and zip code and tell them in your own words how you feel about having an unelected billionaire taking over our government servers, firing people, destroying whole departments. Nothing about this on cnn or the NY Times, what's going on. I tried to paste a picture of Denver but it didn't work.

Thank you Jen, Norm, and everyone. I so appreciate this platform, and all you are doing for democracy.
Jamie Raskin for President!
ESP moment! I called Jamie Raskin's office today to give my appreciation of him, and asked him why he hadn't run for President - and I would vote for him in a hot minute.
Me too! He’s got it all: intelligence, compassion, bravery, experience. He’s lost a child, and beat cancer twice. I hope he runs.

We had a Catholic president (Kennedy) at a time when the country wasn't ready for one. Can you imagine bands marching down Pennsylvania Avenue playing klezmers? Hopefully, by then my clarinet playing skills will be good enough for me to participate.
anti-semitism is much more entrenched than anti-catholicism..... I am amused watching trump ignoring all promises he made to muslims....
I find nothing amusing about trump.
Bwahaha! You got me at klezmers. Love it! And have the highest regards for Jamie Raskin. Brilliant, and a kind, k8nd man. But no pushover. Steel rod in that spine. ♥️

I worry we're not.
Hey, the world didn’t end when we elected a Catholic president (Kennedy) — the Pope didn’t take over! Raskin hay MY vote!!👌👍

Thank you for tusting in women to lead!!!
I think Jamie Raskin would be excellent!
I would vote for anyone with an actual IQ as well as experience within our government and an honest background.
He needs to run for senate first and he said he wasn't ready this cycle.
Love Jamie Raskin. The education he does is my prescription for all the cultural DEIs I know with a deep interest to getting their citizenship tries on record. And of course, I couldn’t live without my daily dose of MSNBC.

Amen, Pam! I don’t give a f*ck who knows how disgusted I am. At 87, I am dispensable, but I’ll go down noisily!
Wow! Inspiring!
Wow, glad you got to talk with them!
Thank you for showing up! I wish I lived closer and weren't in such physical difficulties.
We all do what we can. I wanted to go today too, but had prior plans.
Good for you! 👏🏻
Keep up the good fight!
I just got back from the one in Denver. Very inspiring indeed!
Well done! We all need to keep channeling John Lewis and his “a little good trouble.”
Thanks to both of you for going! We need to support these efforts!
I had to leave early but my husband stayed - he said that once they got to the expressway that they were met by some military types who refused to say where they were from . Be sure to come back on Saturday. This needs more publicity. I broke down and posted on Facebook.
Joanne - I’m sorry to hear that. Was this in OKC?
We need to develop a rapid response for encounters like these shadowy military types Joanne's husband encountered. Remember what happened in Portland late in the first Trump regime. The bullhorn! “Run, you bitches!!!!”
I'm from Massachusetts, and I'm very glad to hear there was a crowd out protesting in OKC! All the best to you and your fellow protesters!
Thanks David! I was thrilled by the size of the crowd, given the deep-red politics of our stare. Look for us to continue to stir up “a little good trouble” down her - you folks in MA do the same!
I'm thrilled to hear the crowd was big enough to thrill you! We're ocean blue up here in Mass, despite having a few Trumpers, and while I didn't make it down, there were "hundreds" demonstrating in Boston according to the Globe. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/05/metro/trump-protest-elon-musk-project-2025-50501-movement/
Oh, good! I also live in Massachusetts but health issues kept me away. I am so glad people turned out here - I'll be sending emails.
Came back from California State Capital protest and we may had 1k crowd proudly standing to defend our democracy!!!
Brava you!!
Thank you. The “bravo,” however, goes out to everyone fighting against the darkness.
I just called my Representative and said that I'm in favor of impeaching Donald Trump now for treason, emoluments clause violations, and the illegal activity such as allowing Elon Musk and his tech bros access to private citizens Social Security Numbers and Bank Account Numbers.

Am most disappointed in Joni and Bill Cassidy who had personal stakes in this - what in your life is worth selling your soul?
Phoni Joni is just a publicly paid prostitute. She's unimaginative, thoroughly corrupt & blind to us her constituents
Deport musk!
He’s a us citizen.
Not necessarily. Records of peole who have applied for citizenship are sealed. We only have his word. And that's worth zero. He lies, he steals, he purposely ruins people's lives (he caused the original inventor of Tesla to get fired -- and check out what he's doing to us lately).
I don’t care.
Fine. Revoke his citizenship and then deport him. He was flying under false colors when he entered the country in the first place, and should have been denied citizenship then.
They have made a pact with El Salvador to accept illegal immigrants that we send there. They added to that US Citizens, incredibly enough.
Send Don the Con and Muskrat to prison in El Salvador! The Con Man just made that possible. What a sweet thought!
I LOL when my caption read Hang My Pants instead of Mike Pence. A brief moment of levity in this dark time.
my caption read the same....LOL
But no caps - just hang my pants. Instructions to the dry-cleaner?
Today, Day 16 of the fascist Coup against America, 300 very angry marchers from across progressive groups showed up at the Rhode Island State House in windy, 20 degree weather.
They made angry speeches and pledged solidarity. Few knew each other before the march.
This is how our nation wide protest movement starts. Small numbers will multiply exponentially. There is so much to be angry about.
And when we see the backlash from Trump and his military, be prepared to make "good trouble". We are not afraid.
"Today, Day 16 of the fascist Coup against America..."
No, it's more like Day 16 of Democrat Denial that they lost the election and this is a coping mechanism.
This Canadian in Toronto agrees. Can't go on like this if we are to get through it.
I keep praying for Mickey D's famous cholesterol to do its work.

Protesting means nothing!!
Our Democratic lawmakers have to get their asses in gear and fire back with a challenge to everyone of Trump's effing orders !!
The protests, calls, emails, and visits to MoC offices have all pushed them to act. Finally. Keep doing it all!
Yep - keep on! The constant dripping of water wears away stone...
