The premise of Michele Taylor's well-argued piece is that “US values” are ones that all Americans share. That is apparently not the case. Human rights are most certainly not considered important by Trump and his gang of oligarchs and MAGA cult members. So for Trump to pull out of the HRC is an expression of his values, and they do not include human rights.
I deplore the US withdrawal from the HRC but am disappointed at the one-sided defense of Israel with no mention of the prolonged and severe human rights violations against Palestinian semites. The failure of the US to stop the destruction of Gaza and illegal settlements in the occupied territories also constitutes human rights violations.
This is a terrific piece by someone who has aggressively defended U.S. interests in a challenging multilateral setting. When the U.S. isn’t present, China and Russia win.
But isn’t that Trump’s and Musks’ goal: to let Russia and China win? The current destabilization and demolition of our institutions could not have been designed better by Mr. Putin. Well, he probably actually provided the blueprint.
Perfectly-articulated explanation of why we should engage with the UN HRC, no matter how frustrating it can be. When we leave, our voice is silenced to the benefit of bad actors--like Russia, Venezuela, and China--who make everything worse. There is real anti-Israel bias (and obsession--Israel is criticized more than Sudan, Russia, ,North Korea, or Iran). The only way to counter it is with engagement, not Trump's abandonment. Well--no point in struggling through my muddled version of what Michèle Taylor has written clearly.
DJT/Musk don't value human rights. To get back to the HRC table, they will need to be replaced. Impeachment (long odds given GOP rubber stamping things they know are wring) and courts seem like only recourse at the moment.

The monster exits because he has no values nor does he believe in human rights!
He couldn’t even discuss the subject .
