One of my 2 great Senators. Raphael Warnock is the other. I truly believe Georgia is turning a bluer shade of purple. tRump and his evil band of enablers is actually creating the wave of discontent we will ride to an absolute skunking of the GQP in November. Don't just say you live in a ruby red state/district and wallow in despair. This may be one of those midterms where holders of 'safe' seats get a surprise early retirement.
I live in Illinois. I'm proud that Sister District (now States Win) supported both Ossoff and Warnock and I helped by phone banking and sending postcards. Our work continues. Ossoff's speech was hard hitting and inspiring and just what we need now.
We need more like you. Less hand-wringing, more active participation. It really is possible to live your life and do your bit as a citizen at the same time. Showing up to vote every couple of years is not enough.
Keeping a republic is a lot like brushing your teeth. It’s only when you stop that things really get interesting, and not in a good way. Right now, we’re undergoing multiple root canals, crown replacements, bridgework and gingivectomies because millions couldn’t be bothered to show up every two years to brush their friggin’ teeth or floss.
Those "millions" did not have the leadership that provided them with a strong alternative. Many of those same people remain in control of the Democratic Party today! That is why those 7 members who voted with Republicans twice remain undaunted and still are a part of the Party! Voters, especially young ones, are aware of the elitist code words and actions, and are unwilling to do what many of us did over the last 40 years: vote for someone just to stop the Republicans from winning!
This article reflects what we could become if we help the younger politicians win and then give them training to lead! Pelosi did just the opposite to those young people like AOC when they won their first terms!
And yet, not helping get those elected, even if you deem them not young enough, or too old school, helps no one. Some of the more progressives may not always win, in a more centrist district.
And those nine you talk about, eventually made no difference in the passing of that measure, as, when absent republicans, in the House, returned to vote, it would have passed anyways, but by voting the way they did, and coming from red leaning districts, they helped themselves to possibly winning again. A centrist democrat is more valuable in congress, than a Republican.
Strategy and timing are crucial in pushing policies, and politicians running for office. Jeffries assessed the situation and gave them the go ahead to vote how they did, so as to help guarantee they could win again. Pelosi is a master at that, as well as many other actions, and will be remembered as one of the greatest House leaders ever. Denigrate her at all of our peril
I am afraid the decay has been deepening under this regime. We will face root canals, crown replacements, and all those other yucky, but health-producing procedures if we can just have a free and fair election. Our democratic "teeth" need to be restored. We are dealing with ICE's bite and chill, and a totally corrupt, self-dealing "president" who remains proactive in his family business. A LOT of officials need to be pulled, or extracted, due to their decay and unhealthy contributions!! Then, once healthy, we can brush and floss, but first we need to do something about the billionaires who own media, and have shown their loyalty to this country's democracy doesn't extend beyond their quest for riches.
"If he wins with room to spare, he will secure his position among the rising stars in the Democratic Party, part of a long-overdue transition from the stale, septuagenarian set to a generation of politicians who can connect with younger voters." This is what we all, except Trump Epstein old criminals, want. Younger and stain free leaders.
Fascism, authoritarian, imperial are words too nuanced to describe what's happening in freedom loving America. What's happening is that millions of everyday Americans have said we've had enough. We have ZERO interest in living in the GOP's ICE/Trump/MAGA fantasy police state. Two heroes gave up their life in Minneapolis. The whole city, in below zero temperatures said "This is our America." We've had the gift of freedom for 250 years. We love it!!! Screw you Donny, you horrible, wannabe king. You small sniveling weasel. We're finished with you and all your corrupt, repulsive cronies. 🖕
And this little tidbit from today's barrage of chickenshit....Kristi Noem is gnashing her teeth today because....wait for it.....somebody took her BLANKIE!....the radical-libruhl left-wing terrorists who just HATE America stole her BLANKIE!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaah.....🤣😭😂😢😩🤪
I'm 77 years old and I strongly believe it's time for those in my generation to hand off leadership to the younger generation and to provide them our total support and counsel. Jon Osoff is one of many highly qualified and very deserving people who make me feel extremely optimistic for our future.
I am a grass roots supporter from Minnesota and have supported both Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock since 2021. After reading this article has me even more committed than ever for their support!
Ossoff is one of my senators. I am glad to see him coming out so forcefully. I agree that we need more like him. Time for the old guard to step aside for new voices who can rise to the moment.
My last happy memory of politics was the morning of Jan. 6, 2021, when I woke up to the news that Ossoff and Warnock had both won and Dems had the Senate. By the afternoon, well, you know what happened.
We don’t have enough of undaunted people running for public offices. None exist in the Republican party anymore. And still not enough in the Democratic party. How do we get or make more undaunted representatives? By supporting and funding the best of the best!
Michelle Jordan, I agree. We need younger people running for office now. They literally do have more energy. I know @ 80 plus years now as a former prof dancer that I cannot sustain as I did at 60. It’s physical. Period, no matter my desires to keep going as I once did; and I apparently appear much younger. No matter because appearances are simply that. Superficial. Our democracy is crying out for new ideas, new energy, new stars ⭐️ ☀️
Listening to that speech makes me wish more democrats had the backbone to speak with Jon Ossoff's moral clarity. He was right to call Trump's Obama post something a klansman would have written. I love that Sen. Ossoff speaks without fear because he's standing on a firm moral center. That's why I'm supporting his campaign from here in NC.
What a powerful and honest statement of comparing the Obama deep and racist insult to the Klan. You bet. That is exactly what they would have done. And I love that finally, one politician has had the courage to honestly state that Trump and his minions ARE the elites, always have been. He never knew anything else in his sorry life. And he has the temerity to say shit like "drain the swamp", the "DC elites" while he lives in a gilded mansion, and has never bought his own groceries or wrote his own checks. What a friggin' charlatan. Ossoff said it clearly, succinctly and honestly.
Too right. I've never understood how MAGA ever thought a nepo baby like Trump gave a damn about the average person. He wouldn't let the typical MAGA voter cross the threshold of his faux-gold and marble Florida golf motel. Nobody looks down his nose more at MAGA voters than Trump does.

Even that would be a great thing, indeed.

Even more to the point, that was all before Alex Pretti's murder. Nobody believes those 7 wouid vote the same way now.
Things are changing quite rapidly. Planting your flag on Mt. Yesterday isn't going to cut it tomorrow.

And I don't do as much as I'd like to! There are days I just can't engage at all
From a Jewish text, The Ethics of the Fathers: "It is not your responsibility to finish the work, but neither are you free to desist from it."
We can't do it all, and sometimes need to step away.
Yes! Also proud to have volunteered to GOTV for Senators Ossoff & Warnock from Chicago!
From your keyboard straight to God’s ears.
Sounds lovely--for so many holders of "safe seats" to be tossed out. Makes my heart go pity-pat.

You have two excellent senators, and though a New Englander, I've donated to both. Carry on!

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

And her boyfriend Lewandowski … had the pilot fired? FFS. 🙄
Merrill, well said!!!

John Lewis was a mentor? You can't do better than that. Good trouble!
Maybe we can have more politicians who aspire to virtue and objective reality.
Well said. Thankyou.

They are both great senators. And I've supported the Minnesota protestors. I have a lot of family there.
I will be behind him all the way. He is the future of democracy.
Epstein class….a moniker to hang around their necks
Yes. Exactly.👍
Ossoff needs to be the Senate leader. It is time Schumer.!!
Tia, I agree!!
Ossoff is one of my senators. I am glad to see him coming out so forcefully. I agree that we need more like him. Time for the old guard to step aside for new voices who can rise to the moment.
He bravely ran back in the day and has proven himself as a great representative. His office answers the phone!

He has the rhetorical skills of Obama and hopefully the dedication to public service of Jimmy Carter.
He reminds me a lot of Obama when he speaks. Frankly, I wouldn't mind another young, handsome, charismatic president...... Just sayin..... Someday....

Wonderful writing about a very special senator. Thank you for raising my spirits.
We are all in for Jon. Thank you!!
