I assume this wholesale attack on departments is aimed at privatization. It’s for PINO’s and acting president’s posse (billionaires and millionaires) to take over the services albeit in a vastly reduced fashion and with costs escalating beyond all reasonable limits.

I would hope that people understand that privatization requires the entity to make a profit. If the same pool of funds now has to include a profit for the private company, something else will be reduced: services or quality.

The illegal executive order disbanding the Department of Education is a sop to private companies that have been lobbying for years to have federal dollars redirected to voucher programs and the subpar charter schools they run.

Right very true. I pass every day Avenues — a horrible Charter school. I’ve complained to the local NYC politicians since these schools actually take up real estate and sidewalk space and road space (at AM and PM our street and 10th Avenue are blocked with busses but mostly with black oversized SUVs) and these charter schools do not pay taxes ! Imagine?

That's awful! Why are they given such preferential treatment? They should be paying their fair share of taxes!

And it’s about CONTROL not just of our money but of every breath we take, of every thought we have. I’ve studied the downside of AI! The Orwellian image is but a pale almost naive vision of what we might be facing as these traitors start using AI AGAINST us.

Read the book The Privatization of Everything to see how unsuccessful this is. Costs of the service skyrocket. It is as much BS as trickle down is.

I’m perfectly aware of the stupidity involved in this approach. The convicted felon and his unelected president musk are NOT pursuing this to create jobs or any kind of reasonable service; it is only about making money for those NOT IN NEED!

There is no question that we owe our veterans the services that we promised them when they took the oath to defend the country. Broken promises are the hallmark of the Trump administration. It should be the responsibility and yes, duty of Congress to maintain the promise. Where is their respect? Where is their decency? Finally, where is their responsibility? Do your jobs. Restore and expand veterans' benefits. Do not treat them as forgotten second class citizens.

I am a Gold Star mother whose son deployed to Afghanistan, returned home with PTSD and took his life, leaving a widow and three young daughters. After reading about cuts to the suicide prevention programs for vets and active military members, I sobbed on the phone to my senator's office. Twenty-two a day. Twenty-two families each day must grapple with the pain of loss.

The next time you witness the PINO hug the American flag or hear one of his sycophants, whether one of his coconspirators in Congress or AG Pam Bondi pontificate on law and order, remind those around you that actions speak louder than words. Hypocrisy abounds while the foundations of government are being destroyed in the name of this cosplay of 'patriotism'. The random dismantling of government institutions, the wanton neglect of veterans needs, the habitual disregard of Constitutional requirements and the flagrant disrespect of the judicial system are actions of an out-of-touch, autocratic regime which has no interest in democratic norms or the rule of law. Aligning themselves with other autocratic, criminal leaders, such as Putin of Russia, Kim Jong Un of North Korea, Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, Javier Millei of Argentina or Nayib Bukele of El Salvador, offer a clear view of this administrations ideological goals. Putting the pieces of this puzzle together shouldn't be a difficult task for anyone who has an interest in preserving the longest serving example of our experiment in Democracy.

There’s no excuse for shabby treatment of veterans by the government. I wont forget when my dad was between jobs and didn’t have employer’s insurance except for COBRA which is incredibly expensive and his VA benefits. He ended up needing to have surgery during that time and did but the VA had its own issues at time. It was during the Gulf War and they were short staffed because many of the doctors, nurses and technicians were serving our country in Kuwait and elsewhere.

It was a great safety net for my dad at the time. Dad served 4 years in the U.S. Navy during peace time. We will always be grateful for the VA and all the Veterans that served and are serving who keep our country safe.

Yesterday I saved and printed the DOGE list of what has been closed so far. Pretty awful to see what was cut. Veteran Services, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Social Security Offices, Farm services and Rural house services, Public Defenders, US immigration and Customs enforcement, FBI and border patrol services, etc. It is pretty enlightening to see and everyone should take a look. There are too many to list here but it spans everything from environmental agencies to all oversight divisions. These agencies are cut in many states, and the obvious impact are the working poor, the elderly, veterans, and farming families, our land management and forests, etc. The obvious end game here is privatization of most of these services, with no oversight, and no cost cutting solutions. Our government is being dismantled, bit by bit and it is literally destroying not only our way of life, but any hope of a continuing democracy in this country. We are fighting for our freedom on every level at the moment.

Donald Trump got his doctor to phony up a letter claiming he had bone spurs to avoid serving his country in uniform during the Vietnam War. Elon Musk applied for Canadian citizenship to avoid mandatory military service in his native country, South Africa. Through Musk, Donald Trump has fired more veterans than any president in history.

Still think he 'loves our veterans'? Remember when he held a fundraiser 'for veterans' to get out of a debate in 2016 then pocketed the money until a court ordered him to pay up? Remember when he dissed former POW John McCain for 'getting shot down'? Remember when he refused to visit a military cemetery in France because it was raining and might mess up the rats' nest on his head? Remember when he called our honored war dead 'suckers and losers'? Remember when he asked Gen. John Kelly, while standing at Kelly's son's grave at Arlington, "I don't get it. What was in it for him?" After a while, a pattern emerges - at least for rational people.

Donald Trump doesn't 'love our veterans.' He hates them. Because they had the personal bravery to do something he never could - sacrifice for a cause greater than himself.

It is truly CHILLING that there does not seem to be more outrage in the Senate and The House for EVERYTHING going on within our government and especially veterans who literally give their lives for us. I believe protesting the WEAK REPUBLICAN COWARDS in The House needs to take place! For them to sit and accept these illegal unconstitutional actions taking place is beyond words!!! In the same breath, Democrats and that is MANY don’t seem to think RAISING their voices or getting out into the communities such as Bernie and a few others is important! Schumer doesn’t feel we’ve reached THE MOMENT yet??? That’s the kind of thinking that will continue leading us right where this “so called” administration is leading!!!!!

Rather than the usual "thank you for your service" platitude, I prefer "Thank you for maintaining our nation's honor".

Honor is something greatly misunderstood, and in very short supply these days.

Shame ( if that is indeed possible) on the veterans sitting in Congress for not pushing back against the cruel way our veterans at large are being treated by the Musk/Trump/Vance administration. It is very well known that Trump thinks of anyone who serves as a loser. Just to help pay for a tax break for the one percent.

Wholeheartedly agree with all your points but please correct the numbers: “‘nearly 30 percent of federal workers are veterans, half of whom are disabled.’ That means that of the 38,000 federal employees Musk-Trump fired, 6,000 are veterans. “. (30% of 38,000 is 11,400.)

I hope that those on active duty keep this breach of contract in mind when they are called upon to control protesting citizens when martial law is declared. Also, I hope they keep in mind their oath to the constitution and not to any individual. They truly are our last line of defense in this coup.

It’s hard to imagine a more moronic set of moves from any administration: First, anger veterans by destroying the benefits THEY HAVE EARNED through sacrifices they made for the rest of us, including the cowardly despicable pino and his whiney nazi sidekick. Second, lay off the 30% of the federal workforce that is comprised of those same veterans, putting their families at risk. Third, decapitate the respected civilian and military leadership and replace it with an alcoholic rapist whose only qualification is covering his ugly, disgusting self with rabidly misogynist and racist tattoos. Thus, we inevitably arrive at the utter stupidity of arranging for a large population of citizens who are pissed as fucking hell, have lots of free time, are familiar with weapons of war and have proven themselves brave enough to use them, and now have excellent potential leadership. Geez — what could go wrong for the trump idiots?

Yet another disengagement cog (an extremely cruel and shameful one at that) in the wheels of government by this regime. I think it's intentional not only in itself, but as it is integrated with so much else of what they've done to ignite economic, social and medical ruin. I think it's all part of trump's grand plan to to divide We The People so he can be the greedy, powerful dictator he's dreamed of being. It is truly shameful, unpresidential and unconstitutional. And yet, the Republican senators are letting him do it. May they all rot in hell.

We "losers and "suckers" are all disposable to these miscreants, especially those of us who are no longer whole or have given that last full measure of devotion. "I don't get it. What was in it for them?" you asked Gen. Kelly while standing over the grave of his fallen son, and on a Memorial Day no less. You'll never "get it" Demento, but let's start with keeping your sorry ass safe. For some unfathomable reason.
