Excellent choice. I'm usually not big on video, a boomer thing I'm sure, but I played this one. I was impressed. It reminded me of Walter Cronkite, and especially David Brinkley, and others before my time or around that time. The wisecrack was priceless. In 1982, during midterm and other elections, Brinkley intoned: "And now, down in Alabama, where George Wallace is running as a liberal...if you can believe that..."
Jim Acosta, welcome to the new Hall of Fame. Your plaque next to Cronkite, Huntley, and Brinkley will be ready soon!
Very Walter Cronkite!!!! I am loving all of the fearless resisters hoping the Substack ranks. I will be following and subscribing to all of them. Paying money for truth is invaluable. You all are giving me much needed hope. ❤️
I agree. This is the first subscription I have approved. I am a regular reader of four or five or so other publications, from a variety of perspectives. Have been since around 2016-17. All of them are anti-Trump.
Thank you for recognizing Jim Acosta's courage to say "NO". He was really one of the few on CNN worth our time and attention. When they hired that piece of human indecency Scott Jennings, I rarely listened to any show other than Acosta's. The courage to stand up is pretty rare at the present, so my best wishes go to Jim Acosta!
I had mostly quit watching CNN anyway, but still watched Jim's show. And whenever Scott Jennings appeared if I were briefly watching another show, I INSTANTLY changed the channel. So happy that Jim is on Substack - looking forward to hearing from him on his own or over here. Thanks for the piece on him, Jen.
Jen, it is a wonderful thing when real journalists praise one another. I read Acosta’s first foray into Substack and the one thing he said was that his dog was going to get out more, for walks. That made me smile. You all, who have come over to this type of forum, must have a sense of relief and some breathing space. We all certainly appreciate you.
Jen, I fully agree with your choice for person of the week. Jim is one of that rare breed who would not bend knee to the fascist dictator the first time around.
Also, I love your use of the word "regime." A truer word has rarely been used for what poses as the US government now.
One of my favorite journalists. I am sure Jim will find a better place to keep bringing relevant and unbiased news to the American people. Go Jim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The MSM has for the twenty plus years decided clicks and profits are far more important than journalism. I left the Washington Post and New York Times when they normalized Trump. I left "X" when Elon decided free speech was only MAGA speech or speech which was beneficial to Elon. I left Threads when Zuckerberg bowed to GOP House and Trump.
American oligarchs and the six Christian Nationalists on the Supreme Court are attempting to make America an authoritarian theocracy just like Putin's Russia.
I'm a member of Huffpost because it doesn't appear to bow down to Trump. I'm a member of Democracy Docket because Trump's DOJ has decided to no longer protect voting rights. I'm a member of The Contrarian because it appears to be the resistance.
I'm very glad to see him honored this week by Jen. We need journalists of his caliber to continue to speak truth to power and remain undaunted. The truth must win out, and with him and others, it can and it will.
Hello Jen. This post may not be the best one but I am perplexed by the choice. More than 1 subscriber has noted that it is confusing following, posting, chatting, etc. I am especially not in favor of being constantly "redirected" to Substack because I want to stay on Contrarian only [for now anyway]. Please print a tutorial on how/when/what to use for [1] general comments; [2] subscriber comments; [3] specific article comments. There are posts, chats, activity, notes; a plethora of confusion. Thank you.
Thank you for spotlighting him!!! He would be an excellent addition to The Contrarian as a contributor!!
A well deserved honor. Keep turning up the heat…we are in for a long four years.
It is truly frightening to see the degree to which corporate media is willing to kiss Trump's ass.

So true! Their wit was always tempered but you got their gist just by looking at their faces.

Jim should join us and become the WH correspondent. Imagine the questions he could ask that come directly from us.

Very impressive. I hope y'all at the Contrarian have room for him.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!
Good for him, or as Orwell would say, doublegood!

Acosta is a talented journalist. His spoken words could never be more true. His quote should be immortalized.
"But I'm not giving in an inch to fear
'Cause I promised myself this year
I feel like I owe it to someone"
- David Crosby
