I like reading your columns on this topic Jennifer Weiss-Wolfe. Please keep bringing them. I listened to the oral arguments last April by solicitor general Elizabeth Prelogar to the Supreme Court regarding the EMTALA case and the state of Idaho. Prelogar is brilliant in her arguments before the court it’s just maddening what the court did. Ketanji Brown Jackson said it correctly. The court punted on this issue she implied.

Having a career in science and medicine, I can attest to the potential problems the medical profession and patients will face if the FDA is coerced to revoke this medicine for absolutely no reason whatsoever other than to satisfy a right wing wack a doodle that wants to force their self righteous beliefs onto others.

Not only is mifepristone used in treating miscarriage and abortion but it is used in endocrinology to treat Cushing’s disease. It is especially needed if a patient is not a candidate for surgery. Cushing’s patients in general take multiple doses of mifepristone a day to treat their condition unlike the obstetrical patient who normally only needs one dose followed by misoprostol. If they go this route it might not happen without a fight. Endocrinology specialists are within their rights to sue the government over this. You will also see big pharmaceutical companies joining them because many drugs and medications are used off label without issues. Restricting a pharmacy from dispensing the medication without a written authorization from a doctor would be extremely inconvenient and highly inefficient for a pharmacist and a pharmacy respectively.

This type of medication withdrawal sets an extremely dangerous precedent for all other drugs. If this is allowed we can also have other drug withdrawals just because we don’t like what they are being prescribed for. Can you imagine if certain feminist groups requested that meds such as Viagara, Cialis and Levitra be taken off the market? What about testosterone, drugs that treat certain types of cancers and pain medications? Where would it end? The extremists better be careful what they ask for.

Please keep us posted on these topics.

Trump's attacks on our core freedoms is not an attack on individual core freedoms. It is, simply put, a premeditated attack on the democracy of our country, in its entirety. Yes, he is trying to bludgeon a woman's right rights (any number of them, abortion being just one) and trample our constitution in many many ways. But, in the end he is trying to replace our democracy with an autocracy ruled by him so that he can turn our democracy into a Fascist state.

The Merriam Webster defines fascism as follows:

1

often Fascism : a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition

At the core of fascism is loyalty to tribe, ethnic identity, religion, tradition, or, in a word, nation.
