@charlotte.politicsBREAKING NEWS: Hundreds protest in Chicago against Elon Musk and Donald Trump's austerity measures Chicago, IL – Amid growing tensions over planned budget cuts, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in downtown Chicago today to protest the policies of President Donald Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. The protesters are particularly critical of drastic cuts to social programs, infrastructure projects, and government subsidies for renewable energy. Many accuse Musk of profiting from tax breaks and government contracts while his companies eliminated jobs and depressed wages. At the same time, Trump's austerity policies are causing resentment, as they could drastically cut social services like Medicaid and food assistance. "We will not allow billionaires to get richer while working people struggle to make ends meet," said one protester. "These cuts hit the most vulnerable in our society – we will not be silent!" The protests were largely peaceful, but there were isolated clashes between demonstrators and police. With the upcoming budget negotiations in Washington, resistance to the austerity measures is likely to grow further. Activists have already announced further protests in several US cities.
