It took a Qatari ‘gift’ for Trump's GOP to suggest that accepting anything gilded in gold doesn't look (or smell) great for a president who has placed a cap on pencils
Waiting for the GOP to do the right thing regarding DJTs grifting it like waiting for Susan Collins to actually have an opinion and the courage to finally say, "No"! The " crimes" committed by this administration against the American public and the Constitution should scare even the most rabid supporter of the misbegotten assemblage of misfits, called a Cabinet. There may be a few who hold their noses and their tongues while accepting the chaos for personal gain but even these corrupted people have to realize that selling out your nation for a few pounds of gold is a bad bargain. The Qatar 747-800 only underlines his unending corruption and willingness to sell out to the highest bidder. I do not see how this ends without a public uprising to demand impeachment and removal from office and i realize that is very unlikely to happen.
The demand for impeachment should be now, but may have to wait until after the majority in both houses of Congress changes at the midterm election. If voter anger continues, this will happen.
Don't forget that FOX News has Trump's back on this, maintaining his still ~90% approval among GOP voters. Who either don't know--or don't care--about his billions (?) in crypto "gifts", and receiving a $400 million dollar aircraft, that he'll keep for his personal use after he leaves office.
As much as I would love to see Trump impeached, this will not happen. You have to get at least two thirds of the Senate to sign off on this and the Republican Senate simply will not do this, despite the obvious need to get this done. We are not going to get a two thirds majority in the mid-terms. But miracles can happen so I guess we wait and see.
THIS. And we all know that Susan Collins is concerned, too. Deeply, even. Probably speaking plainly and directly to all her Lean Cuisine dinner choices at this very moment, no doubt.
Not one of these precious little Republicans have ever denounced Bullshit Barbie's lies as she stands behind the podium and gaslights THEM by declaring "DOGE" a real thing, claiming Donald Trump never thinks of anything but the American people, assures us the Librarian of Congress was fired for handing out copies of "Heather Has Two Mommies" to 6-year-olds in the stacks, that people aren't being picked up in the streets because of the color of their skin.
None of these worthless wastes of carbon has ever called Trump an asshole, announced that they're switching parties, much less filed an impeachment brief in protest. Not one. I'm still waiting...
How about charging Barbie bullshit Pam with being a traitor and collusionist with her role as a "foreign lobbyist" with Qatar, getting paid $115,000/ a MONTH for her zealous efforts? Did that little tidbit ever really get placed on the table during her Congressional hearings for AG? Hell no. She, DT and the whole rest of the criminal lot are in the pockets of the Middle Eastern titans who know them as "useful idiots", will make huge amounts of money on us, while DT thinks he's making money, all the while they are planning attacks on our allies and us. Let us not forget that the Saudis were behind 9/11, and Qatar housed Hamas. Syria is now run by yet another terrorist tyrant. The list goes on and on, and these are the people our American government are doing open business with. Well, of course they are, because they are, in their hearts and souls, carbon copies of the ME tyrants. The only difference is, and it is huge, is that the ME countries are run by very good businessmen and hit men who don't run businesses into bankruptcy. They totally control their poor populations, and murder anyone who gets in their way.
Recent Republican budget reconciliation efforts have faced significant dissension within the party, particularly regarding the extent of spending cuts and the potential impact on popular programs.
Areas of Republican Dissension:
Spending Cuts: A major point of contention lies in the differing targets for spending cuts between the House and Senate.
The House initially aimed for $1.5 trillion in cuts, while the Senate proposed a floor of only $4 billion.
This discrepancy highlights a fundamental divide between fiscal hawks and more moderate Republicans.
Medicaid: Proposed changes to Medicaid, including work requirements and potential benefit reductions, have sparked strong opposition from some Republicans, according to NPR.
A group of House Republicans warned against any cuts to Medicaid coverage for vulnerable populations.
Tax Cuts: While there's broad support for extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), the specifics of how to offset the cost of these extensions have led to disagreements.
Some Republicans prioritize deficit reduction, while others are more focused on maintaining the tax cuts, notes KBKG.
Defense Spending: Disagreements have also emerged regarding the level of defense spending, with some Republicans pushing for increases while others advocate for fiscal restraint.
Procedural Issues: Even the process of passing the budget resolution has faced challenges, with some House Republicans expressing frustration over a lack of transparency and consultation, according to Government Executive httpsorganisations.
Impact of Dissension:
The deep divisions within the Republican party have made it difficult to reach a consensus on a budget reconciliation bill. This has the potential to:
Delay or derail the reconciliation process: Without Republican unity, it may be challenging to pass a bill through both the House and Senate.
Force compromises: To gain enough support, Republican leaders may have to make concessions on certain provisions, potentially weakening the overall impact of the bill.
Undermine public confidence: The inability to agree on a budget can damage the party's reputation for fiscal responsibility.
The ongoing negotiations and compromises will determine the final shape of the Republican budget reconciliation bill.
This is a window of opportunity. If they can't get a budget, the 2017 tax cuts expire December 31, 2025.
Thank you for your excellent recap. A youTuber (Belle of the Ranch) has been covering these points too as they come up - pointing out that "the math doesn't math".
As badly as I would like Trump to be removed, I have numerous concerns:
1. During one of his impeachments, Congressional Republicans wouldn't vote to allow witnesses. Almost all of them, who voted to impeach, didn't win reelection. And, Trump's numbers among voters remained high. Most of these Congressional Republicans are too afraid of Trump to vote against him. And, one has to ask if they care at all about their constituents, whose lives will be devastated by this budget.
2. JD Vance is a member of the conservative Catholic cabal with Kevin Roberts, (Opus Dei, Heritage, and Project 2025); and Leonard Leo (the Federalist Society), who supported all of the conservative Catholic members of SCOTUS, including John Roberts), and recommended all the conservative federal judges whom Trump appointed in his first term. In 2021, Leo was given $1.6B dollars by an ultra conservative donor to extend his reach further.
3. Musk has unlimited money, and access to all of our personal data, and god knows what else.
4.Trump has appointed the worst and least competent cabinet, who are only loyal to him.
5. Almost every Republican, has followed all of his demands, despite their illegality and cruelty. At hearings, they refuse to answer direct questions from Democrats, and run out the clock.
6. In an interview two weeks ago, Chris Murphy said that many Congressional Democrats still believe it's business as usual. [But, the game has changed, and they don't seem to get that.]
7. And, I am afraid to publicly suggest why Trump may have taken this trip to the Middle East. I don't expect you to answer, but I see nothing to suggest that Congressional Democrats have the leadership or foresight to have planned a response should there be another Insurrection or worse. They are excellent at pleading their case in Congress, but never win. They needed to take their message to Republican and Democratic voters, and haven't.
There isn’t a world where a GOP controlled House will vote to impeach this president, and there isn’t a world where the Senate would convict him, at least not based on conduct so far. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make the political case that impeachment is required, and Dems should pursue articles if they regain control of the House because it is their constitutional duty to do so.
I understand your position, but I personally don't see the value. Obviously Republicans were responsible for us losing the first two, impeachments, but I believe we were also to blame, and that is made clear in “Unchecked: The Untold Story Behind Congress’s Botched Impeachments of Donald Trump.” And, despite Trump's increasing efforts to destroy our democracy, I think we need to focus on other issues in order to convince voters to vote for us, instead of Republicans. Trump even brought up the impeachment as a strategy for winning in 2026.
Much as he deserves it, I think there is no point in Democrats initiating another impeachment unless the corruption and illegalities have gotten so obvious even to the MAGAts that they already have a rock-solid 2/3 majority lined up. Not only will it fail, it will reinforce the Republicans' arguments that the Dems care only about "getting" Trump, instead of about addressing the interests of the American people.
Unfortunately the chances of getting enough Repugnican'ts in the Senate to vote to convict that miscreant are about as great as the chances that the sun will rise in the west tomorrow.
It's telling that even Eric Ericson's "push back" was pretty tepid. He still doesn't see it as corrupt or a violation of the emoluments clause, he just doesn't think it looks good to accept anything from middle eastern countries not named Israel.
Once again that pesky Constitution is getting in the way of the Dear Leader's plans. Stephen Miller must be furious that his boss's greed might kill his dream of absolute control and martial law.
What will it take for the House and the Senate to realize they need to impeach and convict this criminal? Maybe this thousands-of-tons plane will be the final straw to break the Magat's back. One can only hope.
Voters should rise up en masse at the inequality. Trump gets a flying gilded palace; they have to exist on diminishing welfare, food stamp, and Medicaid reductions in service. The cake that they're getting served up is mouldy and it's gotten down to the crumbs. Let's see a greater demand for impeachment of the president and the Attorney General, and a change in majority in Congress in 2026.
Independent of the blatant corruption and bribery, accepting a Presidential transport from a foreign country is an incredible security risk.
I suspect that anyone who even gets with rock-throwing distance of Air Force One has to go through a background check and get a security clearance out the wazoo. But when you have something as big and complex as a 747, there are probably thousands of places to hide recording devices, tracking devices and who-knows-what else! Accepting such a "gift" is enough to make any security expert reach for their airsick bag!
Consider the donor. Qatar and the other Gulf states have been undermining our economy since Nixon via OPEC. The Saudis control some of our largest energy companies and own the largest oil refineries. Like I said yesterday, this is the first and only time I agree with Laura Loomer.
"I love President Trump. I would take a bullet for him. But, I have to call a spade a spade. We cannot accept a $400 million 'gift' from jihadists in suits," tweeted Loomer, an influential MAGA conspiracy theorist who played a key role in ousting national security adviser Mike Waltz.
"Mark Levin and Ben Shapiro, two of the most prominent pro-Israel voices on the MAGA right, have expressed deep alarm at Trump's growing ties with Qatar — a U.S. ally that denies accusations that it finances terrorist groups."
"Taking sacks of goodies from people who support Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood, Al Jazeera, all the rest, that's not America First," Shapiro said on his top-rated podcast.
That's before he lifted sanctions on Syria for a few sheckles......
Exactly. With the amount of teardown, examination, and modification of that plane, he'll be lucky if it's ready before the ones on order with Boeing. There's no way to be certain all surveillance gear is removed anyway. No intelligence organization would pass up an opportunity like this.
I hope we sweep the midterms and hold every one of the trump sycophants accountable for their treason. (I don't actually know if it's legally treason, but it sure feels as if it is). First, though, impeach and finally convict trump for all his crimes against humanity, for his grift and for just being him, though that last one isn't might not hold up in a court of law. Have him testify and we can get him on perjury. Let's get him gone! 😭
If someone is impeached by the House and Convicted by the Senate, it absolutely would hold up in court! In fact, the courts have no say at all in it because Congress is exercising an authority explicitly granted by the Constitution. Note that the Constitution provides no definition of "high crimes and misdemeanors" which means that that criterion means whatever the Congress wants it to mean!
But I'd say as for as the chance of it happening "from your keyboard to The Lord's eyes," because otherwise it ainna gonna happen.
The president would have little power to stop the states from holding midterm elections for federal offices. If he tries to institute martial law, we will need to rise up and lock arms in the streets.
From Meidas… One day after Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa offered to build a Trump Tower Damascus as a sweetener to persuade Trump to meet with him during his Middle East trip to discuss the US lifting sanctions on his country, Trump announced he was lifting sanctions. He said it will “give them a chance at greatness” and claimed he was only doing it as a favor to Saudi Arabia’s MBS: "Oh, the things I do for the Crown Prince."
Right now, Dems are still getting their heads on straight... we need desperately, to get this one right. We still need a clear statement of what our values are. We need to figure out by whom and how the message will get delivered. And, we need to get this message in front of voters. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that the DNC is and hasn't been up to this task for years. So how do we get the party moving in one direction? We never really know what the thing will be that drives enough voters to reject Trump. So we keep hammering. Maybe it’s this damn plane. Maybe it’s something else. Maybe it’s the collective awfulness of it all. But we will keep on it.
These Republicans think they could just ride on the orange twat wagon’s coattails to staying in power. They have no morals or integrity. So I’m laughing that they think Donnie Dumbass is going to care one bit about their talk about this Qatar jet. They’ve created this monster, good luck reining him in.
Waiting for the GOP to do the right thing regarding DJTs grifting it like waiting for Susan Collins to actually have an opinion and the courage to finally say, "No"! Exactly!!
We should lead with hope, but have a Plan B in case everything goes to shit.
A Plan B is always advisable!

Interestingly, it is MAGA influencers who have been some of the most vocal about Hamas Force One.
Last summer, David Brooks opined that Trump would do something so egregious as to do himself in before July. And here we are. Is this the moment?
Sadly, it probably isn't the moment.
No

Yeah, and that plus a buck will get you on the subway.
I’m more interested in Hawley, as he seems to be carving a different populist path for his own purposes.
This is starting to sound and feel like a parable! The Tale of the Golden Plane! May it do the trick.
it's really ugly too....looks like 1950 threw up inside

Hear, Hear Stephen Brady. And what are we Democrats doing? Sending me solicitations to give money to show the Repubs we're serious. Wow!
Or unelecting David Hogg from his position possibly because he wants to primary challenge incumbents who aren't rising to this incredible occasion.
Write your members of the DNC and ask them to put David Hogg back where he belongs on the DNC.
Replacing Hogg among other things. I know it was unrealistic to expect the DNC not to have its share of idiots, but I'd hoped for better. We were serious contributers in 2020 and 2024 and did get some intelligent solicitations, especially one from Eric Holder, but most of them seemed unfocused. Thank G_d the notes from Chuck Schumer's desk have finally stopped.
Maybe he bought a smarter desk.
that should be reinstalling HOgg, not rpelacing him. akkkk.
We are going to interview Ken Martin over at The Big Picture and ask him about this. Watch for that interview.
