Thank you for the clear-eyed analysis, Mr. O'Neill. The only rebuttal thought that slipped into my brain for a nano-second was that you called the reviewing stand for Mr. Trump's masturbatory fantasy "perade" "half full." I wondered if "half empty" would have been a better descriptive choice.

It seems some members of the LA police department would like nothing better than a return to the Rodney King days. Or were they paid to sabotage the peaceful protests by orange felon henchmen?

I am curious if anyone from The Contrarian will ever comment on the ongoing US support for the genocide in Gaza, the ongoing assault on the West Bank, and now Israel's unprovoked attack on Iran...

Israel has killed hundreds of people in Iran, mostly civilians, and the response from US reps is to 'pray for Israel'. Israeli army bases, intelligence centers, and military leaders are embedded deep within cities and residential neighborhoods, despite its constant claim that this is the same reason it must bomb civilian infrastructure in Gaza and in the several other countries. Israel has been claiming Iran was on the verge of a nuclear weapon for over 30 years now.

Meanwhile the US just voted against yet another overwhelmingly supported UN resolution for an immediate ceasefire and return of all hostages, and the US continues to back the horrible, cynically named 'Gaza Humanitarian Foundation' which lures in starving Palestinians, then shoots them in cold blood. Israel has cut off all internet access in Gaza, with not a word of protest from the US.

More Palestinians in Gaza have been killed in the past few days than in Israel and Iran combined.

But there isn't a single word about any of the in The Contrarian.

Yes, the silence on Israel's criminality in Gaza is incomprehensible. And the silence does nothing to increase support for the fight against antisemitism.

Trump has always boasted that all the world's wars would never have happened if he was President. No, we now have more world-wide conflicts since he took office. So what happened big guy?

I very much like the past paragraph: "And the American people? Too soon to tell. But while the president staged a parade, the most sustained national response was protest, not applause. If there’s a quiet signal worth noting from the past week, it’s the persistence of that instinct: democratic, durable, and still visible—even as the institutions around it grow brittle."

For the first time since the inauguration, I began to feel heartened about the chance of forestalling this would-be dictator's domination. People power showed the weakness of his position.

Next protest should be "No Puppet" instead of "No King". I see the hand of Herr Miller everywhere.

Allow me to quote part of one of Churchill's speeches:

“Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

The fight will be long and as an outsider I do hope you get to the midterm elections. For I think that trump's sycophants will try to move heaven and earth to avoid the 2026 elections by declaring some fake emergency (maga's are good in fake reasons).

Trump has never played with a full deck. A wannabe king is a joker.

United we march. We do not goose step. We need to up the anti. I have been wondering whether Russia's supply chain for Iranian Drones and missiles is so clear now. Just as Syria has fallen due to a variety of actions, Iran is now otherwise engaged. How will China and North Korea be effected by supply chains hampered by war?

I am grateful to hear how pitiful a display the military parade made next to the 12.2 million of us marching around the world against Trump's actions. Even better than the hoped for rain.

Back down, TACO Don. You reb up your own version of Religious terrorists, the Reactionary Christian Nationalists.

I have heard of NO Kings rallies monthly. I am also recommending a PayPal boycott.

Thank you for the positive and well articulated ray of sunshine through what seems like a very dark cloud. I remain hopeful and very cautiously optimistic.
