Hitting the streets again tomorrow. Yes, I will also be out there on May 1. (Older white woman in good health doing what I can.)

I will be re-using my sign from HandsOff. I like one side of the sign: Be a patriot, Say “no” to kings and tyrants. Tomorrow will be the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War.

(My sister particularly liked the patriotic sentiment of the sign. It was inspired by The Contrarian’s articles on the responses of law firms and universities to Trump regime demands. She took part in Chicago’s hands-off protest with me. She is a Harvard faculty member and we were wondering that weekend how Harvard would respond. She is also a Contrarian subscriber.)

I need an idea for the other side of the sign. How about: “Republicans, be patriots & stop the constitutional crisis NOW.” Seems to get at the crux of it. (Just finished the final version and posted to Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/pd1ljw.bsky.social/post/3ln6c2ayxbc2a)

Stopping Trump has always been under Republicans control. I’m glad to hear that Murkowski is addressing her fears. You are generous in your treatment of her. I will do what I can to back up Republicans who speak out and break with Trump, including overcoming my red-hot fury at them.

Is anybody else concerned about the State Department's proposed changes to human rights, as reported by NPR today?

"The Trump administration is substantially scaling back the State Department's annual reports on international human rights to remove longstanding critiques of abuses such as harsh prison conditions, government corruption and restrictions on participation in the political process, NPR has learned.

Despite decades of precedent, the reports, which are meant to inform congressional decisions on foreign aid allocations and security assistance, will no longer call governments out for such things as denying freedom of movement and peaceful assembly. They won't condemn retaining political prisoners without due process or restrictions on "'free and fair elections.'

Forcibly returning a refugee or asylum-seeker to a home country where they may face torture or persecution will no longer be highlighted, nor will serious harassment of human rights organizations."

Human rights are not a value of the administration.

Lil Marco is evil, just like the others. He got a taste and liked it.

My thought is that if they remove these human rights from countries, might these new rules also apply for American citizens and others in this country?

I refuse to swallow anything trump tries to shove down my throat. I have been really pleased with how conservative judges are handling these legal messes (below the supreme court level). It seems like the lifetime appointments with many years of experience, are paying off with them. The news that Senator Van Hollen was able to visit with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, is wonderful. Apparently Salvadorian government was playing tricks with the drinks on the table - the apparent alcoholic ones - to make it look like at least Abrego Garcia drank from one. Clearly persistence pays.

I don’t mean to minimize the gravity of this/these kidnapping/remainder of innocent people to concentration camps with the likelihood looming of it happening to us all BUT I feel like we are still in the fight and terribly demoralized. Definitely a requisite for a spoonful of something. It will take all of us to counter this immorality, deceit and abject evil.

On what we can possibly do to survive for these people we need to rescue, a spoonful of sumpin’ must surely help.

My family saw Mary Poppins at the drive-in in South Ga. A parishioner had made it reasonable for my dad to buy a station wagon so we headed to the open air theater and my Baptist minister father told us kids to “hide under the blanket” in the cargo area so he could afford entry. After that, we laid ourselves down on top of the car with our pillows, got eaten by mosquitoes and saw the best movie known to god and man except for the sound of music. Too many mixed messages and no morality that night except for the ideals in the movie. A spoonful of something pleasant everyday, dance on the ceiling with “preposterous” people and give tuppence a day to the poor bird lady who feeds the (nasty, disease ridden pigeons) less fortunate birds. I’m not kidding, with a heavy heart I evicted with long sticks my bird family that has lived on a ledge behind my shutters and in the newspaper cubicle in my mail box for the last 5 or so years. I don’t want bird flu, but I kind of wanted them to stand up to the third eviction. I would have surrendered to their tenacity but alas I drove them away. A couple whose warble screech language I recognized every spring, early on in our co-tenancy. Maybe bird flu wouldn’t be so bad but I am old and I have a small dog - risk groups, no wild birds for us. I think they must have known my risk and their need to relocate. I still hear them and their conversation. I think they have moved to one of the big trees in my backyard. I hope they are safe and warm and cool and lucky with their new babies. I hope they understand and frankly, if they ever come back, I will never evict them again, regardless the risks. Happy Easter, may all your eggs be beautiful and risk free. Chag Pesach Sameach. Happy Friday. Cheers. Slainté. Salute. fare in Brindisi, cin cin alla nostra salute, proposes, hope you are safe and content.

How in all of this did you miss what looks to be the pending abandonment of Ukraine? This is my Substack on this: “If it is not possible to end the war in Ukraine, we need to move on,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio. "The president is getting bored," David Ignatius on the war in Ukraine.

“It is not our war. We didn’t start it,” Rubio said. “The United States has been helping Ukraine for the past three years and we want it to end, but it’s not our war. If it’s not possible — if we’re so far apart that this is not going to happen — then I think the president’s probably at a point where he’s going to say, well, we’re done. We’ll do what we can on the margins." He described Trump as feeling “very strongly” about this.

This is the subtitle of The Washington Post article on the same subject: “Rubio’s remarks appear to reflect the president’s frustration with the difficulty of achieving peace in Ukraine after Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion.”

The president is frustrated. Poor baby! We dare not have a presdient who is frustrated.

On MSNBC David Ignatius interpreted this as “the president is getting bored.”

Wouldn’t it be nice to think that any of the “administration” could be the next Homegrowns? I can think of a couple who could be the pick of the litter on that choice!

Yes, I agree that we are definitely in a constitutional crisis. MSM refuses to say that we are for fear the retaliation will be swift and clean. Our politicians should be mouthing the words but not without divulging that they are absolutely working on bonafide strategic plans. Will that happen??
