I love this new TChump insult: “Criticism of President in Name Only (PINO) Trump and acting president Elon Musk has become more frequent and bipartisan.”
"Pino" is the Spanish word for "pine," so that's how I heard it the first time I saw it: with the long "i" common in Romance languages. Now I'm wondering why RINO is pronounced the way it is -- because it looks like "rhino"? DINO doesn't come up nearly as often (think Joe Manchin), but I'd probably pronounce it like the name, not like the first part of "dinosaur" (which also makes me think of Joe Manchin).
We have a window of opportunity to get Congressional Republicans to coperate re Ukraine. I've sent you the letter Rick Scott sent me. Wicker, McConnell, Tillis and other have said the same.
Some of the Republicans are cosponsors of the Bipartisan Resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives Marking the Third Year of War and Supporting Ukraine. February 24, 2025
I hope so too, but having grown up in a 50s GOP family who voted with my White, all Christian NJ suburb for Barry Goldwater, hated the 30 Democrats out of 2000 voters, one of whom (a Quacker) introduced me to the Civil Rights, before I became a Democrat in 1968, before college, because of the anti-Vietnam protests, I do not have much faith in the GOP to ever be the party of Lincoln again. Rabid, racist anti-communism turned Eisenhower moderate Republicans like my mother (who had a draft age son) into Democrats by 1973, but my Father, hating the draft despite his WW service, still bought the “trickle down” falacies until the GOP went full anti-LGFTQ and Puritan.
I'm trying to find someone to print a new dartboard with mitch
mc connell and his synchophants pictured. It would be cathartic to feel and hear each missile.strike home!
You.are so right...there IS NO PARTY OF LINCOLN.left...all that remains is the cult of djt and his snollygoster lemmings !.
Am a nonagenarian , Amanda. What we are seeing is a world disaster unfolding before our very eyes! Can only hope some of these repulsicans
wake up to the dangers they are helping to create. Remember!!! You promised to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America...do the job you promised your constituents you would do when they voted to send you to Washington to represent them...not some malignant narcissist ...bent on enriching only himself...placing a crown on his inflated sick head! Wake up! Do your sworn duty to your country!
Beware the legacy you leave for all time!
Principled servant of the people they represent...or
What's the most efficient, effective way to thank these Republicans on supporting Ukraine. Makes the blood boil to see the TChump team throw Ukraine under the bus!!
I have been writing my maga Congressman and calling him a CINO congressman in name only. Shameful how they are letting this administration take over the authority of Congress.
That is nice but the passage of the funding bill last nite shows that the Republicans in congress still are under the musk/trump presidency. And btw THERE WAS NOTHING IN THAT BILL ABOUT OVERTIME OR TIPS!!!
Yes, but his Mother (and the grandparents who raised him) being descended from White Kentucky stock was totally ignored by the GOP who eventually elected Trump).
So what concrete are you or we going to do to turn this around Instedof calling names. What about working and figuring out out how to get the 90 million that did not vote to vote and how to convince the women haters a belitters of women to vote for women. That will maybe vote out ALL REPUBLICANS if we get to vote in a free election again.
Don’t hold your breath. True MAGA have seemingly inexhaustible supply of willful stupidity even when it hurts them (the likely $880B cut to Medicaid comes to mind).
Republicans did not realize how many of the poor live in red states and are MAGA voters. There is a gulf between the insanely rich MAGAs and want to be insanely rich MAGAs, and the MAGAs at the bottom who are now about to be hurt. That's why Steve Bannon cautioned about Medicaid cuts.
Many households get their news from streaming services and on their phones. Both of my adult children don't subscribe to newspapers or receive network news on TV. The last election was swayed by a deluge of ads on cable outlets that were false and misleading. This is how money wins elections.
Oh, they know. They don't care...or think by the time the elections take place their supporters will forget. But by that time, the hard reality will have set in on these folks and they will be suffering. Let us hope they put the blame where it belongs, but their ability to gaslight themselves is remarkable.
We need to make sure that they see the connections. Right now, some of them are mad at Elon or mad at their representatives. I don't know that they have figured out that their pain traces back to Trump's actions, actions which he takes because he really does not care about them now that he is back in office.
Ellie is right -- they know their actions will hurt many of their supporters, but they just don't give a damn, and they expect their supporter's memories will be short. Plus, the Drumpf Propaganda Network will shift the blame for all of it to the Dems. They will never believe their Dear Leader intended to hurt them.
There is no "too low," for the short-fingered one, and therefore, no "too low" for any Republican politician. They are all devoted to Power, Party, and Pelf - and I would be thrilled to pieces to be proven wrong.
"The house republicans last night narrowly passed a bill that will hurt the poor to benefit the rich."
Republicans want to make the tax cuts passed in Trump's first term permanent because they expire this year. Democrats are just fine with letting them expire without taking a vote. Then they can claim that taxes were raised under Republican leadership. So Republicans (rightly) are going to force Democrats to vote on whether or not they want to make tax cuts permanent. Good for the Republicans.
Hate seems to have no financial boundaries. Eggs will fly anyway. Wait a few months, and the rotten vegetables with no one to pick them could become cheap ammunition.
John, I think the anti-musk sentiment is greater now (and growing) than the anti-47 sentiment, so I'd probably be on safe ground. (but I get your point.)
No, he is not a fading PINO. There are threats of a third term and now someone has floated the idea of him imposing martial law to keep him in office. Please do not delude yourself on this and, above all, do not underestimate his utter ruthlessness.
I for one, do not have the luxury of deluding myself into underestimating the PINO and Musk, and I don't think the writer is, either. However, any advantage, I - again, for one - will press to it's maximum. I'm not afraid of the illegitimate president's threats of attempting a third term, or of martial law, and in the time in between like I said, this is one citizen who will press every last square inch of social, political, and spiritual space until it becomes two square inches, or one square mile into two.
I could go on, and apologies if this response is either discouraging or too long winded. But while I don't underestimate the un-dynamic duo, I refuse to overestimate them either, or give them one fraction of a millimeter more than they have already, illegally grabbed.
Agreed! Forewarned is forearmed. We have time to attack Trump's plan to be a king. Organically, voters in the heartland are shouting "No Kings!" So, we have the tools we need to shut down him refusing to leave office. Americans are not on board with this.
There is no reason for us to accept Trump's framing that resistance to him is futile. It is most certainly not futile. Remember, this guy lies.
For us Star Trek fans, they had it right, telling the Borg: NO, resistance is not futile, and proved it. Resistance members in WW II Europe, Spain under Franco, and South America, continuing today, have survived and even thrived. Aleksandr Solzhenytsin stood out and outlived Stalin and his successors. Are we really going to act like full fledged fascism is here when it isn't (yet)?
I'm not saying it's wrong to admit fear. It isn’t. But, was it the generation before this one (? - I'm losing track). That said "if you're scared, just say you're scared." Just don't bring your fear to the front lines and discourage others. Help out in some other way if you can.
And as I always like to say, reminding myself, I'm not talking from a pedestal. I'm not immune from fear. But if I am there at any time, I'm still gonna find some way to help out.
Again very well said. I love the 'don't bring your fear to the front lines and discourage others'. That was a very big deal with my parents. Fear is fine. Despair and wallowing in self-pity was not tolerated. I think it's how they made it through the Depression and WWII.
"No, he is not a fading PINO. There are threats of a third term..."
Oh, please, do tell us all about this "third term"...
"...now someone has floated the idea of him imposing martial law to keep him in office."
Of course, a nameless "someone" floating an idea...oh my!! Any details on what event or events Trump will take advantage of to impose martial law? Can we have film at 11:00?
I am so anxious with my federal employee neighbors losing their jobs, my brother losing his healthcare, SNAP and SSI benefits. While these guys dick around and think about possibly standing up to these tyrants, people are already suffering. I try to read stories of pushback, backlash and lawsuits to settle my nerves. But I am generally afraid.
Completely understandable. Myself, I fairly live for these accounts of pushback, and I strongly prefer the word 'resistance', no disrespect to actual registers under past and present tyrannical.
My take is this: those of us not directly affected (yet) should press our advantage each and every time - the intention being for the "us" to mean all of us in the opposition, directly affected or less directly.
I wish I could offer more than mere words of encouragement, and something more tangible, and that opportunity may come. But for now, this us my offering. We (all of us!) need to know that we are far from alone, even though in this increasingly digital, isolated age, every evidence may suggest otherwise.
Donald Trump, our con-artist, criminal, monarchical president is collapsing the Great American Empire. Some citizens are already suffering from his attack on the administrative state. All Americans will soon suffer from his attack on agencies that protect our money, keep us safe and build our national wealth. Quite an accomplishment in just 6 weeks. Why? Trump loves money more than anything else and certainly more than he loves America. With loyalist control at the Justice Department, FBI and the DOD, Trump, WILL loot the Treasury through tax cuts and misappropriated funds. He will use his trade policies to cut every kind of corrupt deal with large companies and foreign leaders, leaving office a much richer than he is now. We the People have the power to stop Trump if we take collective action. We need protest marches in every city in the US. We need a national strike. We need a tax revolt. We need to do these actions very soon.
I have written multiple Republican senators complaining about their appeasement of DOGE and its chaotic, illegal procedures.
The form letters I get back all state "The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was established by President Trump through an executive order as part of the Administration's commitment to streamlining federal operations, reducing waste, and improving service delivery for American citizens."
So they're basically saying, "we're all laying low till our constituents are threatening to vote us out of office".
Cool.
At the rate PINO and Muck are disrupting their voters' lives, Dems should be well-placed to call out the scoundrels who have recklessly wrought this damage, in about one year, in time for the 2026 midterms (fingers crossed).
I think it will take time for the deluge to clear enough for MAGA voters to recognize that all the things they've been braying for are, in fact, going to materially hurt them when they are enacted. In the meantime, I am (regretfully) NOT in favor of saving them. They gleefully made this bed.
Liverpool, while I heartily support the sentiment and have said the same in the past, I recently heard something to change my mind. Instead of condemning those with "buyers' remorse", we should be saying "Welcome to the Resistance. Let's fight together for our rights."
I couldn’t help be angry with “Criticizing Trump to his face no longer fazes some world leaders.” Jesus H. Christ, that’s about the whole problem in a nut shell. Why does ANYONE give him a pass on anything??? Why is everyone so damn polite to him?? CALL HIM OUT - he’s a damn traitor, a thug, a rapist. Treat him like he deserves, call him a traitor to his face, in his face, every chance you get. Stop being respectful and polite to a damn traitor!!!
Consider a donation to the Associated Press in support of their reporting and resistance. I donated after learning that it's independent and non-profit.
I have sent multiple emails and made several calls to my (gag) Republican senator Mike Lee (Utah). I have never received any response, not even a standard form letter. It is truly infuriating but I keep fighting in hopes that some sense of patriotic duty might seep into his MAGA-addled brain.
Loved the "gag." Ben, keep those emails and calls going. I live in Louisiana with John N. Kennedy ("gag") and Bill Cassidy ("semi-gag" since at least he voted to convict Drumpf in the 2nd impeachment trial) and Clay Higgins ("mega gag"). I email and call these 3 frequently to voice my opinions. At this heinous time in our country's history, speaking out is our solemn duty. The future of our country depends on outraged citizens performing acts of defiance and emails and calls are part of that.
There needs to be an investigation about the Dear Leader's ties to Moscow. He is a Russian asset and a traitor. This goes back to the undocumented meetings he has had with Putin and his WH meetings with Russian officials. Why does the corrupt Dear Leader always get a pass? Why is everyone so afraid of him? Everyone discounted the Steele Dossier, but I have a feeling there was something there.
I love this new TChump insult: “Criticism of President in Name Only (PINO) Trump and acting president Elon Musk has become more frequent and bipartisan.”
I love it too. It will be my new goto name for him. But how do we pronounce it? The way he says “Rino”? Or more like pee-no, as in that Russian tape?
JoJoFromJerz calls him 'the Tinkle Tape Traitor'.
I knoe that thr image of Trump kissing Musk 's toes was AI, but don't yiu wonder what tapes exist of Trump doing naughty sex with Russian honey traps?
No.
I'll have to go with pee-no in that case!
Pee-no Gringo?
But does every column about the orange buffoon really need to include a picture of that moron smirking?
🥂
I'd go for pin-o as in short for pinocchio, matching his lying perpensity.

What's the most efficient, effective way to thank these Republicans on supporting Ukraine. Makes the blood boil to see the TChump team throw Ukraine under the bus!!
For starters just thank them for country over party and get more on the record and make the Dems hold them to it.
Call their offices and thank them! This is especially impactful if you are a constituent.
Even if you're a Democrat!
ESPECIALLY if you're a Democrat!
Talk is cheap. What do these Republicans plan to do?
It has to be enough rethugs in the House and Senate to overcome an inevitable veto.
Granted. See my reference to "Feathers of Hope."
I have been writing my maga Congressman and calling him a CINO congressman in name only. Shameful how they are letting this administration take over the authority of Congress.
Amanda, I've been calling him PINOT Gringo for a while now.
So many names -- The Mango Malfeasance remains one of my top choices. My partner favors The Manchurian Cantaloupe.
I prefer king don the john
everyone knows what don's johns are I think
I have heard Latinos calling him 'pindejo'. Kind of a crude dolt.

We're about to find out exactly how hard Moscow Mitch is willing to push back and if he has any meaningful influence left at this point..........
Peanut Gringo? Like the whine?
Nice! Unfortunately, of course, all Presidents have been Gringos, and not even Gringa Hilliary could change that, much less Mixed-race Kamala.

I use president Musk and the Felon.
The house republicans last night narrowly passed a bill that will hurt the poor to benefit the rich. How far can America fall?
On the other hand, when MAGA voters are hurting badly enough, they may reconsider their fealty to the fascist felon.
All policics are local. Republicans representing Democratic majorities should pay.

That just shows you how clueless the republicans are. This action shows us how vile and unchristian the maga republicans are
They don’t care or they are too craven to stand for our Country.
Both, David.
This is the perfect message for the Democrats to shout from the rooftops. But, except for a few, it's pretty much crickets.
This may be their adopting the Carville Doctrine : give them enough rope, etc.
Far, and quickly. Allowing some of the awful policies to actually begin implementation may help the scales to fall from the eyes of the redhats.

"However you look at this, Musk’s blunder provoked the first real split within the Musk-Trump regime and forced the duo to back down."
But Trump would never fire Musk. Musk owns Trump as Musk contributed millions of dollars to Trump.
I need a bumper sticker that says "Impeach President Musk". (I'm looking into getting a lawn sign made with the same message.)
Common Cause offers a bumper sticker that states Fire Musk.
Do you know how to remove egg yolk from a car ?

WE'RE ALL IN.THIS TOGETHER.!
I’ve been calling and writing postcards to voters and protesting.
Let us be clear on this point: Trump is a traitor. There is no other way to characterize his actions. He has sold us out to Putin.
DONALD TRUMP IS A RUSSIAN ASSET - AND HAS BEEN FOR DECADES.
Donald Trump, our con-artist, criminal, monarchical president is collapsing the Great American Empire. Some citizens are already suffering from his attack on the administrative state. The acting President has suspended the U.S. Constitution.

It turned my thinking around.
I agree to an extent, but we must also allow for personal accountability.
Remember when Republicans used to tout that as a conservative "principle"?
Otherwise I'm afraid that MAGA will simply adopt a new and more violent cult than the one they're in now.
Oh, I agree, at least to your first 2 paragraphs. But we need to swell the army of resistance, and if it takes deserters, so be it.
I couldn’t help be angry with “Criticizing Trump to his face no longer fazes some world leaders.” Jesus H. Christ, that’s about the whole problem in a nut shell. I email and call these 3 frequently to voice my opinions. At this heinous time in our country's history, speaking out is our solemn duty. The future of our country depends on outraged citizens performing acts of defiance and emails and calls are part of that.
Mike Lee is incapable of changing his direction.
Everyone discounted the Steele Dossier, but I have a feeling there was something there.
great failure of Mueller not to do this...I believe he had the info
