Trump Administration 2.0 is playing with fire in so many ways. DOGE's ongoing coup against the Federal government is not only violating the U.S. Constitution it's recklessly buzz sawing through staffing and funding. Cutting staff and funding at the NiH, FEMA, and the FAA could lead to a new pandemic, greater suffering after a natural disaster, and new aviation disasters.

The accessing of SS# and personal banking information by DOGE at the previously highly-secure systems at the US Treasury, the Social Security Administration and now the IRS puts us all at risk of having the keys to our lives stolen by bad actors. To say nothing of Trump 2.0 deciding to use it against political opponents and members of the opposition.

Then there's what's happening at the Pentagon, CIA, DIA, FBI, which affects our nation's ability to anticipate and respond to terrorist threats and international crises.

In short, Trump and company have set up the conditions for not one, but a multiplicity of disasters.

If the Supreme Court doesn’t rule that traitor tRUMP is violating the Constitution by usurping Congressional power of the purse, we are done as a democracy. The same could be true if the Court rules that way but traitor tRUMP ignores it.

Trump ignores the warning signs of polls indicating that Americans are still laser-focused on cost of living at his peril. He was ultimately given slack by these voters despite his awful behavior in the 1st term because the economy is very good. If it does not live up to their expectations this time, I do not think he will enjoy the same leeway for his deranged behavior.

Rump has no reason to care about polls, he wanted to win to avoid jail. Now he is enjoying sticking it to those who prosecuted him for crimes he committed the first time around. He cares not about lowering prices or making things easier for Americans. He just said whatever he needed to to get back to the White House and all that power.

It needs to happen SOON and hit MAGAland HARD.

The longer this situation persists, the less chance the country can survive it.

Republicans and Democrats, for that matter, ought to read up on the period around the 1929 Stock Market Crash, the Great Depression, and the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930. There are a lot of similarities between now and that dark period of our history.

I have been for a few years now. I'm also remembering my parent's and grandparent's stories about the Great Depression era. We've been doing what we can to prepare for the worst for a year or so.

They don't have to read about it - Ben Stein sums it up perfectly in Ferris Bueller!

This is the plan. Trump wants an uprising so he can declare Marshall Law and call out the military against the American people. Like Putin's Russia (and with the help of the six Christian Nationalists on the Supreme Court), Trump is looking to make America an authoritarian theocracy. America will be run by the American oligarchs, with the exception of Elon, all will bow to Trump. GOP members of Congress either want what Trump is going to bring or are so afraid of losing power, they have cowed to Trump.

FYI: The term is MARTIAL law.

Expand full comment

Thanks. I’ve used the wrong term in several posts on Blue Sky and here. I feel so dumb…

Expand full comment

Don't feel dumb! I proffered education on the point, and you took it. IMHO, that's the polar opposite of dumb!

(For further elucidation - i.e., to make you even smarter - the word MARTIAL here connotes military / warlike. Makes sense when you think about it. ;-) )

Expand full comment

No, don't feel dumb. General Marshall esablished the Mashall plan post WW2, so there is a strong military connection with the word even though that wasn't a military action; understandable association. I believe Martial comes from a Latin root or word for Mars, the Roman god of war.

Perfectly said. Yes, Marshall Law a real possibility. Where are our elected Dems? The silence is deafening.

Did it occur to you that maybe you need to clean your ears out? And/or maybe aquire a hearing aid?

This is a well written and clearly explained post. I thought all this stuff was going to happen and I am not even an economist. A lot of people are really going to hurt. I just hope they put the blame in the right place and not listen to Trump lies about everything being the democrats's fault. There is a definite possibility that they will believe him. Some of them will for sure. Just hope it is not too many.

Who is the “they”? (I am a pro democracy citizen, sincerely wondering 💭 like they used to say there is no there there. Maybe there is no “they” there either. And even worse, who would listen, to either side?

So with all this economic unrest looking more and more likely, the next step for the régime is to start another war, with the purpose of distracting the masses and trying to hook them with calls to be patriotic. It won't go well.

Or start a war on us.

Martial law. It's coming.

Yup.

I sincerely hope that you're right, but I can't ignore the fact that American voters put the crook in office to begin with. Anyone enjoying the higher price of beer cans and missiles yet? all for a metal that can't be reasonably produced in the US and that you already have a secure supply of?

Expand full comment

Not only did the voters, in all their glorious ignorance, put a crook in office, they did it knowing damn well that he's a crook, but not caring! That's why I'm not optimistic that it will matter (see my post immediately above)

Expand full comment

Not just a crook, but a traitor who sent a mob to attack the Capitol in the hopes of stopping the peaceful transfer of power. That is far worse than merely being a crook.

Trump was only elected by a 1.5% of the total number who voted. That's a damned small margin, and far from a mandate. It may not take too much to tip the scales. At the moment, he's not polling significantly better than Biden was at the end of his administration.

The 'soon' of your headline is an understatement. We have already lost patience, with the fake government agency, with Musk and his rampage, and with the incompetence of the man who allows him to run roughshod over our rights and privacy.

Without a doubt what you say is true. But Trump looks to me to be an alley cat who hasn't even come close to exhausting his 9 lives. Somehow nothing sticks to him, whether it's among the MAGAts or the non-MAGA Trump voters.

So while I hope that eventually those who didn't drink the Kool-Ade see through the sham and recognize that they're not better off, I'm not placing bets.

It all comes down to what is it that will make the case for change. Completely unknown at this point.

Expand full comment

Right. What is an unknown is what will his faithful voters do when Trump and Musk crash the various government programs that they depend upon.

MAGAots are fully on board with the tRump thinking of "nothing is ever their fault. It's always some conspiracy aimed directly at them....always." That is not going to change. Especially when religious brainwashing is added in AKA Christian Nationalism

Suggestion. Replace terminology that is potentially condescending, alienating, snobby/divisive, defense-provoking, acronym-aversive like “non-MAGA Trump voters (NMTVs)” with something like “regular people who voted for Trump” ☮️
