I’m a long time PSU and Eagles fan. I followed Saquon’s career and was very impressed with his athletic and community accomplishments. I cannot begin to express my disgust and disappointment with this. This column is on point with my feelings.
To respect the Office of President of the United States means to DISRESPECT the current office holder, because Trump himself does EVERYTHING to dishonor the office and the country.
Saquon Barkley should be ashamed, not just for hanging out with our crook president but also for pretending to be surprised by valid criticism of his shameful behavior.
Perfectly said! The lame "I'm above politics" excuse doesn't fly if you're hanging out with a president who is destroying our democracy. And Saquon should know something about flying!
I hope Saquon reads and absorbs the truths you are stating in this commentary. If not, he is going to lose the admiration and respect as a decent and morally sound human being, the kind of athlete that’s a role model for our kids!
Right on. I live in Philly, am a huge Eagles fan (of course-- that is mandatory!) and was a Saquon worshipper until this dreadful display of toadyism. I hope that the backlash continues until he gets his eyes opened and makes some appropriate public response. Saquon, your quarterback had a "scheduling conflict" that prevented him from going to the White House. I guess his schedule is more packed with righteous activities than yours seems to be.
Wonderful column. My only wish would be that this could be transcribed on a giant billboard across from the White House. HE doesn't read but perhaps his minions do?
I am jealous. I'm ... feeling that you have said so eloquently what so many people are REALLY thinking. My jealousy stems from the fact that I read your piece while nodding my head in agreement with every word and wishing I was as eloquent and succinct.
My greatest fear and biggest concern is that with all the demonstrating, all the calls for a few dollars to support the anti-trump orgs, all the bitching and moaning about what is that !#$%!@#$%@^@^&$^& going to do today to ruin someone's life, with all that there is no plan - no real plan - to turn this reality around.
Have you been following trump's trumpeting of support for Rep. Byron Daniels (R-FL). Daniels took that endorsement and immediately began acting as if he had already been elected in this bright red state. He has spent the past two years shilling for trump at his Coffee, Cognac, and Cigars "round table' events all over the country. He had a Town Hall in southwest Florida last week and was almost run over by the protesters - even though his team only invited registered R's and limited the number of tickets available. When the local news did a short piece on the meeting, it seems he could only fill less than half the room with his "supporters."
The biggest fallacy in trump's not-so-grand plan is that even with Apple and Mercedes making a big squawk about new factories and moving more production to the U.S., it will take from five to ten years to see those plants develop and be mature enough to contribute positively. We have been in a true global economy ever since the end of WWII. Neither trump nor any of his sycophantic donkeys seem to understand the basics of business and economics.
Thank you for what you do and, please, keep on doin' it.
It was late when I originally wrote the foregoing. I wanted to make it clear that my remarks about Mr. Donalds vis-a-vis his trumpian support, is so odd given that trump has been found to be a racist. Mr. Donalds is neither Caucasian nor Oriental.
Fantastic commentary. It's about time someone told these privileged few - no matter what color they are - can't have it both ways.
Spot-on!

“You validated him, and Trump’s team jumped on the chance to use you in propaganda, posting photos of the two of you all over social media.”
A-MEN! So absolutely correct!

Powerfully written. Well done.
You go Shalise! Spot on commentary. Could not have been any better. Many thanks for your excellent insights.

Just the right temperature... rolling boil.
Wow, thank you. Your eloquence and humanity had me devouring your article. Grateful you’re a contributor here
Well put. I hope he reads it
