Today is only Day 10 in the Trump Shitstorm and this morning, we witness the unbearable spectacle of yet another unqualified Cabinet-select zombie being "grilled" by spineless Republican wormtongue Senators, who will no doubt still vote to confirm, just as they did the unqualified, loutish zombie Pete Hegseth before him. It's almost too much for a normal person to bear -- on top of the sacking of Inspectors General, placing top USAID officials on administrative leave, and the promised upcoming persecution of General Milley, among other illegalities and moral perfidies.
With these awful people, fraudulent cruelty is the whole point. If there's another, I'm missing it.
Here's a wild idea. Why don't the House and Senate democrat leadership request a meeting with The President and go on record confronting his misuse of appropriated funding? My tax dollars and yours are being misspent or not spent as directed.
Either Trump meets or they can state he refused and why. Old school politicking as this constitutional crisis begins.
Please take action as you can. The attorneys and courts are not going to sdemocracy alone. It's up to us, too.
It would be worthwhile from time to time to let us know the size of the subscribed readership. This is a unique concentration of good minds--how many other minds are you reaching?
If I'm not mistaken, Contrarian has added 412,000 followers since its inception about 2 weeks ago, nearly double the WaPo subscribers lost since Bezos' rag bent the knee to Trump.
Outstanding! Truth will win in the end, one hopes.
We’d like to know which Republican senators are most moderate so that we can target them with calls about the nominations of RFk, Jr, Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard. Also, what’s the likelihood that Democratic senators’ phones are tapped?
Not sure if this is the right place, but, first, great job! It is a pleasure to get first rate, uncensored journalism. And it is very reasonable to pay for it, but...if I subscribe to all the wonderful journalists on Substack it will end up costing more than many newspaper subscriptions combined. Please address that and try to come up with a better approach.
I agree. I love my Substack authors but can only afford a couple of subscriptions. I would like to see more journalists and authors band together. I think it would be worth your while because you could pull in more subscriptions that way and lessen the burden to constantly produce new pieces.
True, but not that many voices. If you add Paul Krugman and Heather Cox Richardson, for example, you are up to major newspaper expense. Not to mention Robert Reich, Joyce Vance and lots of others. The Contrarian just doesn’t equal a full newspaper.
The freeze is a delay of short term. Crooks trying to con the populace. That will not stand. Many things they try to do will not stand. Watch the unfolding of the assault on our Federal system. While most look at the carnage, I see the impact on the Treasury. The Executive is making way for a tax cut for the wealthy and corporations. That is what I see. Money being laid up to be stolen.
Focused on our service members, Republican senators’ lack of empathy and caring shows they suffer psychopathy. Their support of their neo-fascist leader makes them all neo-fascists. Do you need any other proof that we face an army of psychopathic neo-fascists (PNFs)? https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/fight-psychopathic-neo-fascists?r=3m1bs
We must remember these historical facts as they shape our understanding of the present day and our role in addressing our power struggles.
In the history of this world, there has always been a power struggle between two groups: the elite (the wealthy ruling class) and the people, the bourgeoisie, the proletariat, the working class, and the peasants, from ancient times, with rulers kings, through the Middle Ages with Popes and bishops, to America with enslavers and land barons and the rich during the Gilded Age, to the manufactory giants and now to the billionaires. We have always had a power struggle between the controlling group and those who were controlled. Never has there been a time without this struggle.
The framers of our Constitution had a power struggle between the wealthy enslavers and the wealthy business owners in the northern states. One of the main objectives in their writing the Constitution was to control the possibility of a king in their country. There was a struggle between states' rights and their power and the federal government and its power. The thirteen states that formed the country before 1789 were sovereign states, functioning states with governments, capitals, and state laws. They were concerned about their ability to organize and finance an army, feeling that the First Continental Congress of 1774 was weak and ineffective. The states hesitated to form a federal government because they feared losing their power. This loss of their severance power worried all the states.
Another issue in forming the Constitution was a power struggle between the Southern and Northern states. The Southern states realized that the Northern states' population was increasing with the influx of immigrants. The Northern states would have more power if votes were based on population. We have the Senate because the South was concerned about losing power; it gave all states the same number of representatives.
Today, Trump and his billionaires are acting as if they can overrule the sovereignty of the states, enter the states at will, and do what he wants. Again, a power struggle exists between states' rights and the federal government.
What has to happen is that states have to offer resistance and protect their rights as sovereign states. The states must be formidable adversaries to the federal government and defend their rights to control their states as independent entities responsible for caring for their populations.
In yesterday's discussion of transport of undocumented aliens, I think you missed the fact that Trump used military transports to the tune of $100,000+, whereas Pres. Biden used charter planes for about $8,000. So much for Trump trimming government waste.
I would describe the past 9 days with these five words:
NONE OF THIS WAS NECESSARY.
Indeed.
Wonderful to see all you happy warriors coming together! Long live independent media!

Fraudulent cruelty and Chaos!
Apparently Kennedy knows nothing about Medicare and does not understand Medicare for All at all.
Obamacare saved the lives of millions of Americans, and Trump et al want to kill it.
The Contrarian is really finding its footing and the scope of what you are doing for all of us is so refreshing!!
The speed at which censorship has taken hold of Legacy Media is breathtaking, and I am grateful every day for folks who make independence a virtue.

YES and none of this politeness...BE NANCY and stand up and don't let him talk over you.! Take f'ing charge
Why don’t we all just quit paying fucking taxes? They can’t lock us all up

The number is shown on the main Contrarian page right up top. It’s currently 386K

Thank you for everything all of you are doing to speak truth & call out abuses and lies!
You are keeping us sane!!!!

Good idea!
Given the last 10 days, I wouldn't bet against it.
I am finding your morning and evening roundups very helpful in making sure that I don't miss any of the posts. Thanks for this format!
Thank you and your team for speaking up and fighting back against tge new administration!
The new regime is a better title!

Isn’t that what The Contrarian is doing? One subscription, many voices.
True, but not that many voices. If you add Paul Krugman and Heather Cox Richardson, for example, you are up to major newspaper expense. Not to mention Robert Reich, Joyce Vance and lots of others. The Contrarian just doesn’t equal a full newspaper.
Robert Reich’s name was enough incentive for me to sign up. He has the best explanations on any topic. He’s (Chef’s Kiss)
Amen!

The felon did that for a show of power! But in actuality it cost tax payers dearly for this made for TV show
Is it too early for impeachment?
Never
