Yes! Real journalism isn’t just about recording and transmitting what sources say, but as you say here, providing context in which to understand what is being done or said. Yes to all your points.
Thanks! Media failures are systemic. But we can fight for change. I know from all my years inside big media what it takes. That's what theystandcorrected.substack.com is all about.
That's exactly why so many of us no longer read the billionaire/legacy/main stream media and rather pay for many subscriptions to different journalists/analysts/cartoonists who have proven to not follow the both-sideism. We also vote accordingly.
What the ignorant cult members are watching/hearing (most of them can't read), is beyond anyone's control and they vote accordingly, if they vote at all.
If anyone can ever get control of what the media is reporting, they truly deserve a Nobel Peace Prize, unlike the orange felon.
Legacy media has been warned so often about their lack of real journalism. They Stand Corrected does a great service. Jennifer Rubin has been challenging them for years.
I hope their efforts cause some improvements before it is too late!!
It has been said, and should be restated over and over, that Trump is like a toddler. Yes! Mentally, he is a 2 or 3-year old in a geezer body. The things he says and the things he does should be evaluated as the behavior of a toddler (playing with the US military & law enforcement). He is not, and never has been, a competent adult.
Trump's assurances are worthless. Those reporters know that. The congressional Republicans who claim that they were provided those assurances also know that -- they are simply using that statement as cover for their gutless unwillingness to stand up to Trump. I suspect that the reporters know that as well, even if they don't seem to be willing to say it.
Why do people lie? Mostly to avoid punishment or embarrassment. Democrats tell white lies to avoid punishment at the polls, and to avoid the embarrassment of not doing enough within the system to help people. The media tells lies of omission to avoid punishment in the ratings. But Republicans tell lies to commit fraud. Republicans want to steal your money and your power and they will lie to your face with a smile to get it.
I really wish the legacy media - the TV and print resources I knew reported things objectively (you know, reported facts with little interpretation that you could trust to draw your own conclusions) - would do more fact-checking on significant issues - like broken promises and lies.
“If we find out that some of these programs that we’ve communicated should be out of bounds — that advisers to the president decide they are going to cut anyway,” Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina, who is retiring, said, “then there will be a reckoning for that.”
NYT today. So he voted to cancel the funding, but just so you know readers, he’s really uncomfortable about it, and just maybe, quite possibly, there will be “a reckoning”. Someday.
Thanks for running my latest column, The Contrarian. More on all this and lots more over at theystandcorrected.substack.com!

Real journalism needs to report obvious dementia, and deliberate abuse by his family and allies. Should be hourly examples. Needs medical exam

Who are they gonna believe? The Real Donald Trump or his haters? Facts never did matter nor do they now.

The reckoning will happen the next time the Democrats are in charge.
