Thank you for your vigorous writing in support of the mayors. They deserve it. Johnson was brand new as mayor when Abbott bussed tens of thousands of migrants to Chicago. The city came through for them, though it was a huge strain and the efforts were not without controversy. Johnson provided ample money in the city budget for immigrant services and supports. Chicagoans also rallied to humanely respond to the influx on migrants. Chicago is extraordinarily diverse. To lead this city means standing up for its diversity, and Johnson does this.
Excellent comment by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu: "This federal administration is making hard-working, tax-paying, God-fearing people afraid to live their lives...A city that’s scared is not a city that’s safe. A land ruled by fear is not the land of the free.” It's very, very uplifting that our states and cities have brave leaders who speak out amidst the deafening silence of Republicans in Congress. May they go from strength to strength.
These hearings, sadly, remind us of the Fugitive Slave Act when the South went after people who protected Black people — many of whom were Free Blacks. In any case, the good guys — both White and Black — wouldn't turn anyone over to those who’d submit them to slavery.
An American History Tellers podcast brought it vividly to mind. The example wasn’t Massachusetts, but New York State: close enough.
"Even before the hearing began, anyone who pays attention to such things knew it would be another kabuki theater performance from Republicans, another chance to lie and lambaste those that disagree with their Dear Leader...."
All the mayors came to this "hearing" extremely well prepared. They saw what happened to the Ivy League school presidents and made sure not to have a repeat performance.

God bless the people of Boston! You really are Boston Strong!
If the cities are managing their migrant populations satisfactorily then there’s no need for the clown 🤡 corner to intervene. James Comer is a Joke.

It's also our fucking country. Let's not let fuck wads like Paul Gosar intimidate us.

Maybe stop using the phrase 'kabuki theater performance' unless you're referring to actual kabuki. (Want some background? Read this: https://slate.com/human-interest/2010/04/it-s-time-for-pundits-to-stop-using-the-word-kabuki.html)
I want Charlotte, NC to be a sanctuary city! Please make it happen!

Bravo to all the mayors!
