My father came to America from Cuba before the revolution, so I have studied the circumstances there beginning with Fidel Castro. State-mandated arts rules silence voices and ruin lives. Tee that up next, and thanks so much for losing our 250-year democracy, anti-Harris voters. May your cable be cut off next. I'll still have my entire book and record collection.

There isn't state mandated art at the Kennedy center. Thr Center hosts a wide variety of cultural programming, from the National Symphony Orchestra, opera, dramatic plays, musicals.

I'm saying: there will be. In about 10 seconds. Trump just couldn't handle Obama laughing at him and Kathy Griffith holding up his fake bloody head.

"There isn't state mandated art at the Kennedy center" -- yet. Once a dictator and minions are put in charge, such restrictions are only a matter of progression.

Remember Germany during WWII when certain composer's music was banned from the orchestra halls?

Not for long.

The State, and now The Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts is now under the control of the Trump Autocracy. Watch and see what the upcoming season of events and who the performers look like.

They still have their cat videos. :(

I hope they take your advice. It definitely makes sense that the KC - largely privately funded - is not the same as the Naval Academy.

Why does this man, who has little regard for the arts, have to invade the Kennedy Center for the Arts at all? We know he's out for revenge, but what did that building ever do to him? Next will come edicts as to what can be performed there and who can do it. The overreach is boundless.

Soon we will see new musicals, such as:

—The Emperor’s New Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

—A Cat May Gaze Upon a King.

—Trumpenchrist, Superstar

I sure hope Mister will get up onstage every night and bop and sway to nonexistent music for a half hour again.

Except for the nights they hold WWE events.

My opinion and a question: I don't think there's any way precedent related to the Kennedy Center case, or any other, case matters to Trump and the lawyers (most of whom should be disbarred) advising him matter. Trump has and will continue to ride roughshod over the Constitution, legal precedents, and established law until one of these cases ends up in the Supreme Court. Then it is uncertain how they will rule, and if they rule against him, whether Trump will obey. If he disobeys a Supreme Court ruling isn't this beyond a constitutional crisis and into full-bore tyranny? I don't know. You're the political scientist, I'm just a retired psychotherapist.

Surprised that David Rubenstein, KenCen's biggest individual donor, has not spoken re: trump kicking him off KenCen's board. Perhaps he can be persuaded to sponsor + host events, that trump bans, at venues across the US, stating the events are in honor of the spirit of the KenCen. Watch trump destroy the KenCen Reach, prohibit school programs there, asphalt over the KenCen gardens + destroy its sculpture, unless arts lovers can stop him. trump's KenCen take-over is horrendous revenge.

I worry that the real issue with the Kennedy Center is that FFOTUS will attempt to rename it after himself. That would be both tragic and a travesty.

A disgusting thought, but I'm not unconvinced that's his plan.

I said that the minute I heard and I've written that on several substack comments. That will be one of his next executive orders. And a big gold TRUMP on the White House because he has no intention of leaving.

Yes it is. It's how I feel about every nanosecond of this maladministration.

I don't understand why you still - despite all the rulings to the contrary - insist on believing that the courts will save us. They won't. And every time the trump administration notches another victory, no matter how temporary, it reinforces to his base of zombies that he's "winning". The _ONLY_ way forward is for the Dems to find a spine, to remove Schumer and replace him w/someone willing to FIGHT and to convince vulnerable Rs that their blind support of trump will cost them votes.

Expand full comment

It's Repubs in Congress who need to find a spine. They are the only ones who could end their king's reign in short shrift. They could tell him to start following the laws they made or they'll impeach him. The Dems don't have that power as the minority party no matter who leads them.

Expand full comment

But the Repubs have already shown that they support only Trump regardless of the laws he ignores and the non-stop lies he utters.

Expand full comment

Regarding support of Trump will cost Republican politicians votes, the evidence and experience of the past 10 years strongly suggests otherwise. That is probably because the US does not have free and fair elections. Further, the billionaires are all lined up with the Republicans. The Republican Party is corrupt to the core. Republican politicians are the worst people ever elected to office. They are dishonest, incompetent, and incorrigible.

Americans have never experienced tyrannical authoritarianism. A lifetime of political complacency by the majority is how we got to this point. The status quo no longer applies. The Constitution has been abandoned by the Republican Party. The rule of law has been rendered unenforceable. National security is under the control of evil madmen. The remaining party of opposition still thinks taking the high road will return them to power. They are oblivious to history.

On a side note, Canada just beat the US in hockey at the Four Nations Face-Off. Justin Trudeau just tweeted:

In the meantime, today, with sadness, I unsubscribed from Kennedy Center emails. Your legal analysis is apt; however, I wonder when, and if, this unfortunate situation will be rectified.

Hope McConnell and his candy fucking ass is dead before he walks out of his door and senate obligation. The sad thing is his stupidity. He would have earned his entire salary as a retired fascist yet he chose to pretend he cared about Kentuckians who are drowning and freezing once again in his sorry assed state that he or his slant eyed wife did nothing to help. Again, I hope he rots before he dies. I hope his whore wife has to move to Russia and all of them can go to hell. Sorry about the floods but you fuckers elected trump. You fucking deserve it.
