Only if you're reading the post at Substack.com; unfortunately, they don't bother to provide a Transcript button for those of us who find it more convenient to read what comes in the email.
It takes little time or energy to get to the transcript from the email. I open the link in the email that takes me to the talk, then if I need to read instead of listening or watching, I click on the transcript button. Voila!
Sorry, I'm very old and don't know how to use the phone as a computer. In fact I have a lot of trouble even using it as a phone... On my e-mail screen there's a "transcripts" icon, as described in several posts.
I like that she reminds stressed people that they can DO SOMETHING other than quiver. We have a lot of power when we vote, when we show up to local meetings, join the local Dem Party, and tap into our courage. Courage is feeling scared and still being a force for change.
"But I will not stand for anyone, again, no matter how powerful, trying to silence the voice, the votes, the rights, the freedoms of our citizens." - Jocelyn Benson
What I love about The Contrarian and the people who run it is the fact that it's a guarantee you won't hear empty rhetoric: as an example, Ms. Benson goes on to say exactly how she'll take action. I'm so grateful for people like her, and for this publication.
I am relieved, hopeful and inspired to know that there are women like Jocelyn Benson and Governor Whitmer in government who are as intelligent, articulate, high caliber and willing to run for political office. Thank you for this interview so we can see and hear Jocelyn. I'd love to see more people in state and city government here telling us what they have done and plan to do in defense of democracy. I wonder if Givetnir Whitmer might run for the Senate after her term is over. I'd love to see that!
Wow. What she said about the people working to amend Michigan’s constitution and about people, not politicians, drawing redistricting lines! That gives me hope.
I like these short interviews. They are just enough information to whet one's appetite and go explore more if desired. I have been impressed with Michigan's leadership. I hope they can help us lead the swing states back into our Democracy.
Great interview Jen did with Jocelyn Benson! She is really impressive. So glad to meet her. Those who live in Michigan are so lucky to have her and Whitmer! The interview length was perfect. I love the Contrarian and am so glad I became an early subscriber. I joined WAPO because of Jen and left WAPO after they wouldn't endorse Kamala. I waited to see where Jen was going and told WAPO that I was not going to resubscribe but was going to follow Jen wherever she goes. When she and Norm were interviewed on Friday night, 1/17, on msnbc, I was so excited and subscribed the next morning on 1/18. They are so committed to the Truth and saving our democracy. Now I feel hopeful, instead of despair, for the first time since T was elected. Thank you Jen and Norm for launching this.
Not a comment on the post. Just want to say that I’m appreciating and enjoying the contrarian. I would just prefer not to get emails for every posting because I’m pretty ADD and I get distracted from other tasks. So if I could just go to the site when I have the time and interest, I prefer that. Thank you.
The vote on the misogynistic Hegseth is rushed by a party that has no empathy or moral construct. (Those are key elements of psychopathy that distinguish it from the likes of sociopathy.) Psychopathic neo-fascists have used techniques of mass psychosis to stupefy half the electorate and to suppress massively voting. We have things to fix, and I will not be surprised to see Violence ensue. The midterms may be our turning point. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/mentally-impaired-psychopathic-neo?r=3m1bs
I've been posting about the possibility of the midterm election and subsequent ones canceled or manipulated for a varsity of reasons, mostly made up by the extreme right or due a reaction to a provocation by the same people. Mass psychosis is another way to accomplish the same goal. After all ,as you say there's no emphaty or moral construct left on the other party. Sad.
Just read it , a learning experience but I posted a coment in disagreement with a complicated name that would require a long explanation to most of the people, mostly those we would like to reach .
We see this more often with say early teenagers on a school bus, not adults. This is one of the advantages of being educated; we grow out of mass hysteria. Sadly that is only sometimes. And sadly those most in need of learning are those most resistant to learning. The hardest part of learning is turning loose of what you 'knew" but it was not so and was dysfunctional. Love, Doc
It's a matter of time John, if we stay open minded, the more we learn and the more we turn loose what we "knew" and the more we experiment with the new knowledge the easier it is to turn loose the old "knew".
Love this interview! Michigan are leaders in many areas…..I loved that they are building regional strength with governors from PA and OH…..YAY!!!!!
Jen, for you: first I very much want to hear your voice separate from Norm. I like Norm, but just want to hear only you occasionally. Second, I saw a comment that one of your readers wanted less video, more written articles. If you provide transcripts of the videos, it satisfies both preferences. I know you just started and I can only guess at the hurdles you and Norm are facing, so this request may just not be possible currently. So thank you for doing what you can. You made my MONTH and current life by resigning from WAPO and starting this fabulous site. Keep up the great work….I subscribed because of YOU and your wonderful articles at WAPO.
The transcripts are provided. Bottom right hand corner of the screen, in that little bunch of icons: the first icon is a little "page with writing" marked "Transcripts". It works.
Jocelyn Benson has always been an impressive every time I've heard her interviewed . Today was no exception. It would be wonderful to see The Contrarian follow her on the campaign trail. She's going to make a great governor for MI and a worthy successor to Gretchen Whitmer.
General comment, please make transcripts of your video’s available for those of us who want to read your words.
I agree with Bob. I would far rather read her comments than listen to a video.
I agree!
There is a transcript; look below the title, below the video, and click on the icon for "transcript" to the right of the "share" button.

I only use e-mail. No problems.
Thanks!
I don't have any problem - I just click on the "transcripts" icon on the right hand side.
What does transcript icon look like and do you have an apple pie android phone. Thanks

Thank you for your reply Anne-Louise
Amen

As Michelle Obama said repeatedly in her fabulous 2024 Dem Nat Convention speech re: DO SOMETHING.

Yes! That's brilliant! That's how it should be.

More of this. Blue states have to now exercise the power that comes with their prosperity.

Same here, Lila. Same experience and agree on all points.

I think you can go into manage subscription (for Contrarian and others if you have them) and turn off the emails for new posts.
Good idea. Thanks

Don't take the normal mid-terms for granted.
Don't take any future election for granted. Just like in Russia and Hungary countries with no democratic experiences. Sad state of affairs in America.
Unfortunately Carl you are 💯 %right.

Mass psychosis is explained at the link in my post above.

Thank you, didn’t know it. Great!
Okay now I want to live in Michigan! Not gerrymandered Indiana!
Strong candidates like Jocelyn Benton can do that to a person 😅

So appreciative of the acknowledgment that rhetoric is not the same as acts. We have power if we will just use it wisely. Thank you!
Such a highly qualified strong eloquent battle-tested candidate, Jocelyn Benson.
I like the way Jocelyn Benson speaks about using the power we have, etc. Too bad I live in Texas.
Once again, thank you for keeping us informed.
