As a NC voter and more importantly as a NC resident who wants NC to be the best it can be for all you live here, I am deeply shaken by what's happening. I don't believe this coup represents the people in NC.

It doesn't. The majority clearly disagree and if it weren't for out of state dark money manipulators and their tools, all of this would fall flat on its face.

It's truly a shame. This is the kind of journalism WAPO, the NYT and 60 Minutes would be leading with.

If not yet seriously dead, the canary is in hospice care.

With any luck, in several weeks I will out of North Carolina and it can't happen fast enough.

In the decade that I have lived in North Carolina, the Gerrymandering of my Congressional district and the House and Senate districts in the General Assembly meant that it was rare that when I voted it was rarely in the same district as the previous election. The 2nd, 8th, and 13th Congressional Districts where were I ended up at various times; there were several times that I had no idea which House District I was in; although the Senate District kept the same number, its boundaries seemed to morph and shift constantly.

Not to also mention the constant efforts by the "Republicans" in the General Assembly to turn the state into the North Carolina Reich at every opportunity it met. The NC "Republicans" are a mutation of the old Dixiecrats of yore, only worse. If possible. Since these Neo-Nazis managed to seize power after the 2010 election, they have gone on a rampage. Their hatred of Democrats, liberals, foreigners, LGBQT+, universities, and whatever else inflames their ire is little short of stunning in its ferocity.

The efforts to ensure that only the "right" people vote and only the "right" outcome results is one of their cherished goals. Voter suppression is the point, not a bug.

This election for the Supreme Court has gone from farce to nightmare. The Chief Justice of the court eked in by fewer votes that being challenged; and, his main virtue is the he is openly an asshole and a Republican partisan (but, I repeat myself). If anyone does not believe that the NC Supreme Court will not do its best to ensure that Griffin gets the seat and ousts Riggs, you know zero about how corrupt the GOP is in North Carolina.

So, when I say that democracy in America is dead you will all know what I mean. Throwing out votes? Gerrymandering?

Dead as a doornail. Welcome to Fascism.

I live in Asheville, NC, which is a bit of a blue bubble so I find this HORRIFYING. Thank you for the info about what concerned voters can do, I will share this with my people!

Riggs should keep on. No way should she give up this fight. Griffin is a LOSER.

This is truly terrifying stuff and the worst part being Republican judges more and more seem to ignore the rule of law. Sorry for all of you in NC dealing with this mess or being affected by it. May justice prevail!

Having lived 6 of the past 8 years in NC I can bear first hand witness to the truth of all this. A small, personal example: my husband and I went to a meeting set up to discuss a proposed map to redraw the then-current and horribly gerrymandered electoral district maps in the state. Those with the power to do so apparently had a hand in choosing the site for the meeting, which was two hours away from the bright blue Raleigh-Durham counties in which we lived. And it was set at a trade college with a woefully undersized auditorium, which was already full when we arrived a full hour before meeting time. We and hundreds of others were shunted into an ancillary room--a cafeteria, I think--with no video and a barely audible, distorted set of speakers. And then, the redrawn map which had met with widespread approval (anyway!) was rejected by the chronically and immorally Republican dominated governing bodies in NC and replaced with yet another heavily weighted gerrymander! They're carrying on like this because the population is shifting blue. It's a last ditch effort requiring a lot of 'dark money' and out of state support to succeed. What's most scary is the illegal electioneering, etc., that represents the Republicans hopefully last-ditch and unsuccessful effort to hold onto power.

We are obviously up against a wave of people who have been totally corrupted, and totally don't care about the consequences of their actions. What will the new power bring them? More bribes? Make more poor and working people suffer? More cuts in services and freedoms of the people of NC? WTF???

The only way for the all the people in NC to get thru to the people who are trying to throw out these votes and support Justice Riggs is to tell them they are all going to loose any upcoming elections, unite with like minded people, hold town hall meetings with or without them, and do this every week. Taking action constantly works most of the time. We're keeping a close watch on FL and looking at all the demonstrations on Sat. we saw it was the people of the United States that turned out. We haven't been this united in a long time, but this is how you defeat the evil spirited maga people.

Surely, you mean "Hampson wrote..." below (not Griffin wrote); Please correct for clarity.

Griffin wrote that “changing the rules by which these lawful voters took part in our electoral process after the election to discard their otherwise valid votes ...."

I will contact my friend who lived in North Carolina for many years and has strong connections there.

Riggs will keep up and she needs our support. This is a definite time to step up and contact our legislators, keep up with developments, and follow-up with any other actions to defeat Griffin’s efforts. Please don’t sit this out.
