So, do you know how federal buildings work? You need access. People have already been locked out, either physically or via their communications access. And Mister's goons are just itching for a nice forceful confrontation.
It's a lot to ask an employee who has gotten by for 30 years and tried to plan a graceful path to the end of life to make themself a target. Maybe the youngs have more at stake and more tolerance for pain. I do not see why it falls to civil servants to prevent an unelected rogue from destroying the government from the inside out. Gee, Congress. Suppose YOU stick up for the institutions and laws that you created.
If each of us, or most of us, contributes in our own way, as best we can, because we know our cause is just and right for those who come after us---our children and grandchildren --- maybe we can win this. The author isn't putting the onus on federal workers. He's saying they can be a big part of the push-back. I appreciate the originality of his ideas. Every patriot has a duty to take action! Any federal worker who pushes back helps some. Nobody's dumping the responsibility on anyone.
I think the author was putting the onus on federal workers. It was a great idea in theory but, as pointed out, not really in practice. I think to resist leaving is probably the most they can do....getting back in would be close to impossible.
I think we should all not pay taxes this year. Don't even file. that is the best way of showing we are *not participating* in this horror show.
Another great idea. We need many ways, not one way. Our people are diverse. They won't follow one way. What each of us needs is something in there that they can/will do. Some would return to their federal jobs, or at least try. Others would hold back on their taxes.
Yes, when is the last time public opinion or a march did anything? While the federal judiciary is a hopeful possibility, I don't have much faith that SCOTUS will not manipulate the law in the Loser's favor, in the end. It seems nuts to be hanging all of our hopes for maintaining our democracy on a proven corrupt body. But how I wish we could.
The Dems in congress have been given no power in this administration. That is the fault of "the people". I think blaming democrats is only helping to destroy them which is exactly what Trump/Kremlin want. It is the Republican majority who is paralyzed but they CAN do something. "The people", who gave them too much power, need to correct that ASAP
Some Federal agencies have the power to disrupt more than others.
The FAA can shut down ALL flights across the US with a "sick out" of the air traffic controllers."
But it would likely be as disruptive to have a sick out at ATL one day, JFK the next, ORD the next, etc. Nothing like a mob of disgruntled passengers stuck in an airport for a couple of days. And because, it is not the airlines fault for the flight cancellations, stranded passengers would have to pay for lodging and meals on their own.
And what about sick out days for the USPS sorting centers. Shut down the sorting centers for NYC, Chicago, DC, LA for a couple of days and we'll see who complains about that.
Or the SSA which is already understaffed, a sickout in the major processing centers that handle new enrollments into the program.
The list goes on and on.
And as a reminder, most of the Senate and Congressional offices outside of DC are in Federal Buildings so there are already federal employees working in offices close to Senators and Congressmen.
Louis DeJoy has already shut down the USPS sorting centers, which is why one of our bills arrived today, with a payment due date of last week. Packages took over three weeks, and one disappeared in one of the sorting centers in Indianapolis. As we are rural, DeJoy ordered packages held until a container can be filled to go to the local post office.
I appreciate the USPS workers. They have been dealing with poor management for over five years, and now Trump was them under his thumb in the Department of Commerce. That will allow voter suppression (mail-in ballots), interfere with reproductive rights (drugs sent through the mail), and controlling any reluctant billionaire (hello, Amazon) that might backtrack on sycophancy.
Yes, the whole framework of USPS means that population hubs and far-flung towns get the same service--ostensibly. This is fairness and empowerment, and the GD libertarians who don't want to subsidize anything but their own endorphin rushes are the real traitors and the real losers. They don't see the value in their own neighbors, and make no mistake--although our country is vast, we are all neighbors. To shun any is to not be worthy of connection yourself.
This is why I struggle with maga voters, but my equation is this: I'm as nice as pie and respectful to any human being ... until the moment they start spouting lies, hatred, or deification of a president. But even they deserve the same damn postal service that I get.
The only way I see to stop this onslaught to American democracy is to sue and indict Trump and Musk on anything remotely illegal. They both must find themselves up to their eyeballs in legal problems associated with their illegal activities and also using substantial amounts of their wealth to defend themselves.
The only thing those two will understand is their dwindling bankroll!
How can I help? I am a retired federal employee and want to help my brothers and sisters who are being treated like trash in this administration. Served as a eye surgeon at the VA Hospital in
Buffalo, NY for 27 1/2 years. I was not allowde to join the union as an MD, but all our staff in the eye clinic were in the union. Every one of them were hard workers.
I still think our best line of defense as citizens of a democracy is to contact our elected representatives in Washington, our Senators and Congressmen. Include details about how the cuts are affecting you and your family.
I’ve been calling nearly every day, not only my Senators and Congress members, but any Republican who publicly speaks out against Trump Administration’s actions. Left a message last night for USRep. Don Bacon, thanking him for his integrity and courage to denounce the hit job Trump and Vance did on Zelensky in the Oval Office.
Yes; that's what my newly elected US Rep said at a town hall. They have to track every call and email, and letting them know specific harms allows them to use that as a mandate for litigation and legislation--"x many of my constituents agree..." ALSO: it is their job, not ours.
I think people first need to recognize how cuts in federal jobs will affect them in their everyday lives, before they appreciate how vital federal services are.
Or, try thinking ahead, America. What do you SUPPOSE will happen when a million people who work for you are canned? What do you SUPPOSE will be the economic fallout, the security fallout, the health fallout? Come on. People cannot be this stupid, just this selfish.
Please don't engage in Dem bashing of any kind. Fighting totalitarianism takes numerous angles and not all of them will or can be publicly vocal. But, more importantly, we as a country and in this moment are beyond partisan and parties. We are in a paradigm shift and have to realize it's not Republicans versus Democrats, it's literally almost all of us versus a minority but effective coalition of grifters (Trump, etc.), tech bros and wealth (Musk, etc.), white supremicist/misogynist/mercenaries (Bannon, etc.), and "conservative" ideologues (Heritage Foundation, Project 2025, Federalist Society, etc.). There is zero time for "us" to do anything but work together in every way possible, with benefit of doubt, and grace, and support through this darkness.
Musk must have good reasons for wanting to raid the Treasury... let's find them I'm also surprised that Trumps pee pee tapes have not surfaced yet. What "cards" is Pootie holding?
It's not really about defeating Musk. It is about defeating an administration that allows a Musk to wield a chainsaw. Trump deflects a lot of direct criticism by having it go towards Musk who does not care an iota about what is said about him. The real threat, I believe, is that money is the main actor here. If Musk's Star Link, for example, becomes the conduit of American information and aviation, then what will keep our information true? Didn't he pull Star Link from Ukraine when things weren't going his way?
Musk is poised to eliminate his competition (take note, Mr. Spaceman Bezos.) When he does that, he will be poised to become the world's first trillionaire. Then the only way to get rid of him is ... TO GET RID OF HIM. Attempting to harness and hogtie all the peoples of the world is begging for a final solution. That's some language he should understand.
Why does anybody still listen to that senile old coot carville? He’s still living in his 1990’s heyday. Hello — Earth to James: it’s the 21st century. Playing dead is probably all he’s capable of but the rest of us can get moving.
Federal contractors are walking on eggshells waiting to see how this rogue, ketamine imbibing African and cholesterol-ridden Manchurian candidate, Trump, continues destroying our government from the inside out. We need a progressive and radical approach to retrieve our republic before Trump, JD, Johnson, the sallow African and Putin destroys all semblance of a democracy. Maybe our own tea party?
Everyone with a grievance needs to air it publicly. (If possible.). Federal workers are on the front lines now but there are plenty of people going to end up jobless and hurting. It would be great if the House and Senate grew guts and moral fiber (looking at you Rethuglicans) but it ain’t gonna happen because they’re all in it for the corrupt payoff. No wonder (ex Sen) Menendez is sore.

Thanks for that. It’s hard not to feel defensive right now. Best wishes, friend.

I think we should all not pay taxes this year. Don't even file. that is the best way of showing we are *not participating* in this horror show.
As they are cutting the people working at the IRS, how will they even know? (Yes, sarcasm.)
Another great idea. We need many ways, not one way. Our people are diverse. They won't follow one way. What each of us needs is something in there that they can/will do. Some would return to their federal jobs, or at least try. Others would hold back on their taxes.
It seems to me that the only hope America has to save its democracy is in the courts of Law.
They both need to be deluged with suits.
Congress, as you well know, is paralyzed and can do nothing.
Yes, when is the last time public opinion or a march did anything? So, no, don't mess with the sorting centers.
Yes, the whole framework of USPS means that population hubs and far-flung towns get the same service--ostensibly. The FAA is now "owned" by Muck/Trump. How about "the people" stop flying? Obviously that would hurt the economy.....so a good way to protest.
The only way I see to stop this onslaught to American democracy is to sue and indict Trump and Musk on anything remotely illegal. They both must find themselves up to their eyeballs in legal problems associated with their illegal activities and also using substantial amounts of their wealth to defend themselves.

Do that in state not federal court
Unfortunately, we taxpayers will be funding Trump's defense!
Enough of the lawyers! Lawyers will not save us! We need massive and sustained. street heat instead.

I see a Madame DeFarge quietly knitting the names of the oligarchs intro her blanket. The reckoning is coming.
We need to launch a GRAY HAIR BRIGADE to fight hard against Social Security cuts. Any and all suggestions on how to organize this will be welcome.
I still think our best line of defense as citizens of a democracy is to contact our elected representatives in Washington, our Senators and Congressmen. Include details about how the cuts are affecting you and your family.

I contacted him, as well, and I live in CA.

BTW: Don't even THINK about mailing your tax returns. E-file or count on waiting forever for a refund now that staff has been slashed and budgets cut.

I just signed up. I love this idea and hope to be able to help as a community member.
We need each other. It saddens me to no end that magas don't realize that.
Maybe, just maybe, they will now.
