Well, the law hasn't won, yet. The law will truly win when this traitor is placed in prison where he belongs, with all the Congressional Republicans who have supported him.

Expand full comment

Which one, Trump or Musk? I submit that both deserve prison, but not in the same cell. They must not be allowed to interact any further. The same goes for Stephen Miller.

It may be just me but I'd go with both

No, it isn't just you.

Not just you.

My dream is to have the whole cabal marched out and put directly in jail. Imagine half of all congress seats empty and all Trump’s lackeys from Susie Wiles ( remember her?) on down never to be seen again. One can dream!

I disagree. They should be put in the same cell and handcuffed together face to face, be required to feed each other, and forced to use the same toilet. After a couple of years the survivor should be put on an uninhabited Aleutian island.

What infuriates me is that during Musk's and Trump's coup, seven Democratic Senators and one Independent, still voted to confirm Trump's nominee for energy secretary on Monday. They are: Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.), Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), and Sen. Angus King (I-Maine).

The new president of the of DNC, Ken Martin said he was "eager to push back on Trump's agenda." And, I get it that he's only been in office for a week or so. But, I wonder what he's done so far, other than give interviews.

Thanks, Susan B. To think that I was conned into supporting Gallego. Well that ship has sailed! They all have bullshit excuses but they are enablers. For these and any who support fascism: no votes, no donations. Though they actually have the nerve to ask, even beg for money!

Expand full comment

Thank you Marie! I live in CA, and am on a fixed income, and still sent a small donation to Gallego because I felt we badly needed a "real" Democrat in Sinema's former seat. And, I thought Gallego was such a strong candidate. Now, I feel like a sucker.

And, you're sure right about donations: I am so sick of being asked for money, when I see so little action from most Democrats in Congress.

After Trump lost the 2020 election, started the Stop the Steal campaign, and then planned and executed the Insurrection, on the night of January 6 (or maybe the morning of January 7), Speaker Pelosi could have called for a full House vote on Impeachment, when there were Republicans who would have joined Democrats. But, she chose not to. And, Democrats botched the second impeachment as well.

A good look at what happened is in the 2022 book: Unchecked: The Untold Story Behind Congress' Botched Impeachments of Donald Trump by Rachel Blade and Karoun Demirjian. A shorter version, written by the same authors, was in a Politico article from 10/7/2022, and entitled: How Influential Democrats Shut Down a Bid to Call Witnesses against Trump.

It's devastating!

I think that they've overreached and even some Congressional

have to admit it.

1. Those who are minorities. How can women, Blacks, Hispanics support blatant discrimination?

2. Those who support Ukraine.

3. Those who oppose Musk.

I've been asking Contrarian to interview Mike Turner, others who support Ukraine.

Elon Musk’s Enemy, USAID, Was Investigating Starlink’s Contracts in Ukraine.

"The Lever reported last Tuesday that USAID’s inspector general was in the process of investigating its own public-private partnership between Musk’s Starlink and the Ukrainian government at the time that the billionaire’s DOGE crippled the agency. Publicly available information about that probe is still online. An announcement from last May reads: “The USAID Office of Inspector General, Inspections and Evaluations Division, is initiating an inspection of USAID’s oversight of Starlink satellite terminals provided to the Government of Ukraine. Our objectives are to determine how (1) the Government of Ukraine used the USAID-provided Starlink terminals, and (2) USAID monitored the Government of Ukraine’s use of USAID-provided Starlink terminals.”

"Musk has called the agency “evil” and a “criminal organization,” though the fact that USAID was investigating the Starlink activities may suggest ulterior motivations for the billionaire’s vitriol. It’s unclear what the Starlink probe’s status is right now."

Republican Rep. Mike Turner of Ohio was removed from his position atop the powerful House Intelligence Committee, telling CBS News that House Speaker Mike Johnson fired him, citing "concerns from Mar-a-Lago."

Also interview other House Repunlicans like Brian Fitzpatrick, and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee, like my rep, Elvira Salazar.

Now that makes more sense about Musk’s involvement in USAID. He’s a vindictive man, just like Trump. No doubt that’s one of the biggest things they have in common, that and grifting the American public & our country.

We have a midterm election in 2026. If we can take back the House--which hangs by a thread--we can prevent some damage. We also need to focus on special elections, and we need to see if we can shave off some Senate seats. And don't forget the state level. There is an important judicial election in Wisconsin in April. There are state elections in Virginia. We must work on every election, not just presidential elections.

There's a terrifying white paper by people who know the tech neofascist movement. Here's the conclusion in that white paper, which is linked below. Trump is just a useful idiot to them.

"Elon Musk’s unchecked consolidation of power over government infrastructure, financial systems, AI governance, and digital media does not serve the interests of the Trump administration or the broader conservative movement—it serves Musk himself and a network of ideological allies who seek to dismantle democratic accountability in favor of private rule. While some may view Musk as a useful instrument in dismantling the bureaucratic state, in reality, his actions demonstrate that he is not working for Trump or the Republican Party, but rather for his own power and the broader neo-reactionary agenda. The rapid restructuring of government functions under DOGE, Treasury infiltration, and efforts to control digital platforms show that President Trump and the American public may already be now hostage to Musk’s demands."

Here's a link to that white paper. Congress must act against this in a bipartisan action or we're cooked.

Actions at the courts and court decisions have been successful pres musk and vp trump (time cover pic nails it) so far. However noting jd Vance prior comments and his social media post this weekend sounds like they’re gearing up a position that a court can’t be a constraint on the Pres (!!!) to lead to conflict when court(s) go to enforce their order(s). What then and how can we all help support democracy vs this tyranny?

Grateful for all the work of the Contrarian

Expand full comment

The courts need to stand firm and uphold THE LAW. Nobody has to do what Trump orders - he's illegal and unconstitutional. Don't obey.

Expand full comment

Unfortunately the muskrat and trumpet band have announced that they are ignoring the court orders. What now?

Expand full comment

They have? So they don't recognise law? That amounts to publicly admitting the existence of a direct opposition.

Expand full comment

I fear that Mump will defy court orders and have accumulated the power to do so. Trump has pardon power, so even if tried and convicted, Musk won't be held accountable. But no legal action will be obeyed by Musk, who will ignore the paper orders against his activities. A loyalist is installed as attorney general, who will quash any investigation into the executive branch overstepping its constitutional powers. The Supreme Court has a MAGA majority and has immunized Trump for legal liability when operating in his official capacity. This Congress won't impeach Trump. If people protest en masse, which is starting to happen, Trump can invoke the Insurrection Act and put them down by force.

Where are the coup's vulnerabilities? Constituents and major donors putting pressure on Republican members of congress. Constituents pressuring waffling Democrats to get a spine and follow the McConnell playbook to grind legislation and cabinet nominations to a halt -- although Trump has previously installed "acting" agency heads. We may see a mass strike, and Trump may fear the economy crashing. A stock market crash could alarm Trump, although it's a buying opportunity for billionaires. Some civil servants are resisting. Maybe the Supreme Court will try and call a half to the regime's overreach and tell them to get the votes to take their actions by passing laws. If so, will the regime obey? And if Trump invokes the insurrection act, will some military commanders refuse to obey an illegal order? How many Trump voters are sounding off to their electeds telling them this isn't what they voted for, especially if they are being hurt by Trump's actions, i.e., Idaho farmers who can't sell their excess harvests to USAID and more.

This is all in flux. I was going to write that it's terrifying, but I won't give them my fear. They feed on it. I will take action by continuing to put pressure on my federal electeds.

My question as well. ...and, who are the people blocking entry into places like the Treasury and USAID? Are they federal law enforcement or the goons formerly known as the Proud Boys posing as Trump/Musk security?

Agreed. Musk and his gang of thieves show no indication that they will pay any attention to the way the courts rule. I suspect things will have to go all the way up to the Supreme Court and unfortunately, I have little faith in that body anymore. What is the next strategy? Taking to the streets?

And so, I ask Norm and Jen: What DO we do when (not if) Trump simply ignores the courts as he has Congress? It's fine to know we're right, but not if it has no meaning. Any thoughts on how the law can constrain bad actors who refuse to acknowledge the law, the courts, even the Constitution? We tried impeachment; it didn't work. That's what the Framers gave us, but they didn't anticipate THESE bad actors—or at least not those at this level of mendacity and sociopathy.
