The fascists from Fox, the Heritage Foundation, and others understand this and have using such metaphors for over 50 years to manipulate the minds of suscept;ble, ignorant people to create what has become the MAGA Voodoo Cult. Meanwhile the leaders of the Left, who apparently feel they're too sophisitcated to use simple, strong, & sometimes crude language, have been reciting steril facts and leading Kumbaya love fests.
I couldn't find a metaphor for my position, which I probably share with most Americans: America is a land of immigrants, better because of the diversity and economic advantages they bring, but we should only allow immigrants to live and work here under our terms, and not theirs.
Thus, all undocumented immigrants should be identified and deported, but the economic damage in doing so means the long overdue massive deportation effort must be accompanied by Congressionally approved, selective deferals of some sort. For instance, a huge expansion of the number of work visas together with mandatory use of the e-verify system and, in acceptance of America's past complicity in fostering illegal immigration, a selective "dreamers" path to citizenship.
Moreover, asylum must revert to its original qualifications: the asylum seeker must prove that they fear for their personal safety. Fleeing economic and political turmoil does not qualify anyone for asylum.
