Please don't join the Democratic Party's storied circular firing squad! Do you really believe these 8 made a CHOICE!! They were ASSIGNED to take the fall. I don't know Schumer's reason, but it's no coincidence that the 8 are ALL either 1-retiring, or 2-not up for reelection until 2028 or 2030.

They made a choice.

Follow the money. I betcha these retiring Dems were promised nice MAGA retirement pkgs.

If they didn’t get their $$$ upfront laughs on them.

. . . ask Marco Rubio. He's a "veteran" soul seller.

You (and I) have no clue how this will turn out. It may be negotiation strategy. It's not over. It will bring the House back to session. Jeffries says he'll hold the line. May lead to further negotiations.

Hopefully it'll be Epstein time. The most recent revelations involve money laudering allegations.

Many Congressional Republicans privately admit Trump is nuts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNzVt7q0W5A

I keep posting. According to Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) Trumpepstein may cause an "Epstein bomb" causing over 100 Republican members to "jailbreak" from Trump.

I think that if we play our cards right, many can be convinced by the election outcome to come forward.

DANIEL Solomon: I only hope, if Trump plans to do something so terrible that the election would be either put off or cancelled, or people wouldn't risk showing up, that someone in his camp would stop him.

I don't think this is a time for US/democrats (small d) to have a failure of imagination about what Trump would do to "win," and is capable of, and so NOT to be ready for the worst. Those people around him are as delusional and as he is.

Re the the Senate Democrats shut-down vote, mightn't the Democratic Party leaders realize that ACA recipients, of which vast numbers of voters are in the Red states, will look at their 'new, improved' ACA fees and understand exactly what the orange narcissist-felon, and his cult/regime, has done to them?

That, in the coming year, should have the cult/regime sycophants sweating (the polite form).

Simply Susan's avatar

Sadly, they will not realize or understand anything negative about Trump. Time and again, interviews and videos show suffering Trump voters blaming "the government" for what's happened to them. They will not say his name.

Why is The Contrarian so down on the democrats who came up with a compromise? it would be helpful to listen to last night's The Last Word, and hear the opinion of one who has worked in the senate. I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the ACA, but they made some gains, also. It's not all negative. I would like to see more accurate coverage of such things, rather than a slew of negative opinions.

JA's avatar

Was that what pros call a compromise? You could fool me! There is actually NO decision.

Push it down the road until another mix-up at the end of the year when the important item expires! NO compromise here! Mere indecision. Mere zero. Mere nothing.

It was a very safe move for those Dems but nothing to show for it?

Susan Stone's avatar

You are talking about one issue that they did not get resolved. They did resolve other issues. Please see my comment to I Hate this Timeline. In addition, the reason both Nevada senators voted for the compromise is because Las Vegas would go under with all the cuts to airline traffic. They don't have to worry about re-election but they do feel obligated to take care of the people they represent, BTW, compromise is not defined as getting everything you want.

I Hate this Timeline's avatar

Total capitulation is not compromise. What did they get that the courts weren't providing?

Christine's avatar

The courts are not allowing SNAP benefits to go forward. SCOTUS is an unconstitutional institution!

Susan Stone's avatar

I agree that capitulation is not compromise, but they did not capitulate. They got federal employees rehired, with back pay, and SNAP benefits (not sure what else now). Those are things the administration was totally against. As I understand it democrats are to come up with a bill for the ACA tax credit extension by the end of the second week in December. I understand that doesn't mean they'll get everything they want, but they definitely got something. And all sorts of thing could change in the next month. I hope this answers your question.

C. King's avatar

Susan Stone: So you think they "got something" because it was promised to them by the good ol GOP and that honest guy Trump? HA HA HA HA. Funny.

I watched The Last Word (probably for the last time)and listened to O’Donnell tell me how hard the work was and how much Schumer and the Hateful 8 Really Cared about their constituents. It broke my to see a man of intelligence, caring, and experience not realize we Don’t Live There Anymore.” His friend, Chuck engineered the Hateful 8 and covered his butt Or else he can’t control his caucus.he has the tools. If they don’t vote his way, goodbye choice of committee assignments, cushy private offices, etc. Surelyhe learned something from Nancy Pelosi.) Chuck is the “negotiator” but you can’t negotiate with a bully. You have to hold their feet to the fire until they give up. This time, the bully was was Trump—surprise. And the fire was the anger of the American people, even the occasional MAGA. Chuck and his Minions just dug Trump out of a hole—for less than nothing.

Let’s see the federal employees be rehired, etc.etc.

The R’s are already saying the price for the December passage of the ACA is greater abortion restrictions.

The D’s took Tuesday’s victories and turned it into poop(and Trump didn’t even have to fly a plane.)

Chuck is not a young person. Lawrence is not either and neither am I. How am I that can see the only possible future the D’s might have is with the AOC’s, the Mamdami’s (who Chuck has not yet recognize as the mayor of Chuck’s beloved New York).

Chuck needs to resign and get

ALL important matters are in the Courts or headed in that direction!

No real accomplishments.

Exactly how they got nothing. Surely none of us would follow fetterman. If he's in the team and virtually every other Dem outside of the 9 criticizes then we can guess they messed up big time.

Ja know, I can do without more rage, especially more "incandescent rage". Honestly people. When you're not in the majority, you don't get to call all the shots. I think the Dems have a real chance at making this work for them in the long run. Failure to address the health insurance crisis will be on the Republicans but in the meantime, maybe some folks can eat and get paid for their work, work we need them to do.

This was a great posting. The first thing I've read that's making me rethink the capitulation. Thanks.

Some Democrats get impatient and act too quickly? Might they miss something rather than use plain good sense? The younger crowd would wait, and wait, to get what they want, but not the older bunch. The older White guys are impulsive and want to pretend to be leaders. Yet, they follow the moon trying to act as if they know what they are about! They show that they do not - and we ALL suffer! They give IN and UP! Show is lost and OVER! Republicans have pulled the wool over our eyes - AGAIN! Jeez. And, the winners and losers are?

Is it possible that the 8 Dems. move will give the Republicans an off road on the ACA, and if they don't take it, well it is al their fault and will be held against them. Are you Dem. busters so sure the end would have been as you wished?
