Featuring Jen Rubin & Mike Zamore, Brian O'Neill, RJ Matson, Jen & Ben Wikler in conversation, Carron J. Phillips, Jennifer Weiss Wolf, The Democracy Movement, and an exchange with the Washington Post
Jen, I just listened to the Uncovered podcast with Anthony Davis and Ron Filipkowski.
They reported that the Republicans have attached two poison pills to the Continuing Resolution.
1) allows Trump to impose tariffs unilaterally and congress is authorizing him to do that. They are giving up their veto power.
2) continue the current spending levels so that none of the current DOGE cuts are part of it, however, turning around and giving the Executive branch and Musk the discretion to make cuts recessions on their own unilaterally. This would give Musk permission to go in and make whatever cuts he and Trump want to make. This would undercut the current court cases which say that Musk doesn't have the legal authority to make these cuts.
Davis and Filipkowski made it sound like the Democrats might actually ok this resolution because not to do so would shut down govt. spending and they would be blamed for that.
They also said the Democrats could have told America about these attachments and why they wouldn't support this resolution.
It's not too late to do that!!!
Which is worse? Shutting down govt spending until the Republicans can be brought back to the bargaining table or let Trump and Musk continue on their way to shutting down our Democracy?
And if the reports are right the D’s are about to give up their only leverage. These provisions would essentially concede the field to Musk/DOGE —allowing the piece by piece destruction of every agency designed to create positive results for ordinary people. And deprive the ONLY institution willing to stop them—the courts—of a major basis for doing so.
I think we need a modern day "sit in" where no one goes out. no one spends, no one drives, simply shut the whole nation down in protest until our demands are met.
The titular character PINO & his handlers are in for a rough ride soon. MAGA measles has spread its morbilliform madness to the naive masses and when the blisters pop, only the vaccinated meek shall inherit the earth.
Prescott AZ held a women’s March on March 8. Near 1000 attended in this red area. Sadly a few big pink women for T flags flew but stayed away from the crowd. No guns were visible for a change.
Per CNN, Former Philippine President" RODRIGO DUTERTE (79) was " ... forced onto a plane to The Hague after an International Criminal Court (ICC) dramatic arrest ..." in Manilla, Philippines.
The Philipines is no longer under the criminal jurisdiction of the ICC EXCEPT for the period of time during extrajudicial killings of thousands as part of Duterte's so-called "anti-drug crackdown."
Former Philippines House of Representative member, WALDEN BELLO, an internationally known writer is hoping for a relatively early ICC trial of DETERTE. Bello is currently on a U.S. book tour, 'Global Battlefields' which started yesterday, 3/11/25, in Seattle, WA, touring to San Francisco 3/17/25, Berkeley CA 3/18, Washing DC on 3/20 at the IPS then to New York on 3/25 at N.Y.U.
Bello is probably one of the world's top experts on internal Philippine politics & divisions between the Marcos & Duterte extended families.
I don’t know if it’s even possible, with just SO MUCH happening, but can there be a fairly comprehensive but easily navigable list of actions Trump/Musk has/have taken that are obviously AGAINST THE LAW and/or THE CONSTITUTION?
I am keeping up, as much as I can, with news but my 16yo daughter, for her English class at school in Norway, wanted to do a presentation that talks about what trump is doing/has done that is illegal. I’m pointing her to various publications and references but it’s just so much.
Anyone know of a place to go that is updated reasonable often that is keeping track for us non-lawyers of all the illegality taking place out of the executive branch???
I had to laugh at myself. . . Kewtiebird's post reminded me of when I thought that Trump's violation of the emoluments clause in the Constitution would keep anyone from voting for him.
Today I heard a very encouraging online town hall meeting provided by U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat from Colorado. See https://www.youtube.com/live/K8IVRI_ScJc?si=4h4v22WVT1UgjqSX. I think it might provide inspiration for Coloradans and non-Coloradans alike.
if they stop direct deposit Social Security, we best know where Musk and Trump are. Remember Mussolini being dragged through the streets after WWll and Hitler killing himself in his bunker. love, Doc
Video interviews convey the character of the participants. But to acquire the basic facts being reported, reading next is "infinitely" faster. In this world of limited time, I would appreciate receiving at least written transcriptions of the interviews.
Far as I can tell the D’s in the Senate (led by Spineless Schumer) are about as courageous dealing with the R’s as tRump dealing with Putin. What did they get in return for caving? Nothing! Except to give the country a lesson in cowardice in the face of bullying which they may well have serious cause to regret.
I just read about Zeldin’s decision to remake the EPA in Trump’s and Project 2025’s image. Time to bring back THE MONKEY WRENCH GANG! It ain’t over til its over Mr. Abbey. We must stand together against this violation of human life. Keep up the good work you are doing. Perseverance furthers.
Longmont, Colorado had a women's march on March 8th - many people attended, including many men. Estimated 200+ people. Did not see one pro-Trump sign.

You and Heather Cox Richardson keep me sane! Thank you!

How about "crickets" instead of noise?

The laughter of insanity?!?!?! So sad how far things have gone. Wonder where things will stand in another 5 weeks (or 5 months)…. 😳
