I wish that all retail establishments would add a line to their bill for tariffs just like they do for sales taxes. That would make it obvious to everyone just how much Trump's insane policies are costing them.

True, except all the owners/CEOs of these companies would be afraid of the orange felon's wrath, if they did this. The really bad thing is they knew full well this was going to happen and voted for him anyway. What do they care if they raise prices for consumers?

Walmart was intending to do this with a line item on shelf stickers. They caved.

Trump's tariffs are literally picking the pockets of the American consumer. As with all taxes that are regressive, it will cost a greatest percentage of a poor family's income than a wealthy one's. There is only so much belt-tightening that can be done around the kitchen tables of many of our fellow citizens. With further cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, there will be people who quite literally will be doing without. Even the purchase of necessities will be cut back, all as a result of this inhumane and cruel piece of legislation. Congress must start acting for the people, not the president, who already has his - in spades.

Steve, here's a variation of your theme applied to the Biden administration:

Inflation during Joe Biden's presidency picked the pockets of the American consumer. As with all taxes that are regressive, it cost a greatest percentage of a poor family's income than a wealthy one's. There was only so much belt-tightening that could be done around the kitchen tables of many of our fellow citizens.

I didn't see the Democrats complain all that much when they were in the driver's seat.

Joseph Biden is no longer the President, so anything relating to him or his administration is in the past. My focus is on the present, what the tariff and "big beautiful budget bill" is going to do to our people, and how democracy and the Constitution are being attacked. Biden had a Trump one presidency and Covid to forge a stronger economy and secure a lower jobless rate, which he did. The stock market fared reasonably well too. Hang onto your alternative reality. It won't keep you warm or pay your bills.

"Joseph Biden is no longer the President, so anything relating to him or his administration is in the past. My focus is on the present..."

Then you missed the point. You complain about how the current administration's economic policies might hurt Americans now. Did you complain about bad economic policies in the previous administration?

"...and how democracy and the Constitution are being attacked."

Instead of parroting a talking point, please elaborate.

"Biden had a Trump one presidency and Covid to forge a stronger economy and secure a lower jobless rate."

Did you even do a cursory read of any of the links in my previous reply?

"Hang onto your alternative reality."

My reality believes that bad economic policies from both parties hurt people. You apparently live in a bubble where only one party makes bad decisions. Get out of your bubble.

It seems that we both live in our respective bubbles.

It seems that you don't really know how to respond. Understand this: both political parties are primarily concerned with power - how to acquire, maintain and expand it. And because of that they will lie to you. If you're in an ideological bubble you generally don't see it or want to acknowledge it.

My "bubble", if you want to call it that, is centered on the Constitution and the republic. Yours is not.

Far too many Americans are paying close attention to whether trans men (also known as women) are playing in women's sports, whether they can discriminate again LGPTQ persons and call it religious freedom, or whether homeless are living on the sidewalk versus being shoved into a ghetto. Far too many American politicians are looking out for their next election, for their own power, and for their own wealth.

With the full support of the six Christian Nationalists on the Supreme Court the Felon is making the United States and authoritarian theocracy, with the Felon as its leader and American oligarchs running the Country. The six Christian Nationalists don't care about precedence on precedence (as the women on Strict Scrutiny say "precedence is for suckers"), don't care about the rule of law based on the immunity decision, the decision saying Courts can't tell the President to take action even when the President's initial action violates the Constitution, and when they told the President he/she could direct DOJ to assassinate a political rival (I guess only five of the six decided this). The six Christian Nationalists on the Supreme Court don't care about individual rights when they decided the Felon could ban transgender persons in the military while the case goes through the Courts, when they decided religious freedom allows for the discrimination of the LGBTQ community.

I bought new tires yesterday. They come from Germany. Wonder how much tariff I paid to get them? They were the same ones I got last time from the same place. $300 more than last time. Some of that cost might have been from inflation.
