"the next president will have to start fresh at building a new conception and vision for the 21st century.”"

The previous vision was fucking fine, until cretins decided to elect a felon and his trillionaire sidekick to ransack the country for their own benefit. Aided and abetted by the SCROTUS and the assholes in congress.

I disagree with Billy Porter. We have made progress from the wrongs of our past, and headed in the right direction. Until, that is, POSOTUS came along and turned his thumb down and is attempting to rewrite history and stop our evolving into a more perfect Union.

We shall overcome when we focus on the task at hand and the future we deserve.

I also disagree with Billy Porter. The United States represents an ideal for which we must continue to strive. That means facing the mistakes of the past, atoning where possible, and striving to do better. We are currently in the midst of a major backslide. We need to hold on to the promise of America and to work towards it in these dark times.

I especially appreciate the thought that Trump as President invites everyone to be their worst self! We are definitely in a "worst self" moment as a country and I hope it is cathartic so that we can move beyond it! I need what is getting trashed: people being cooperative, being helpful, listening to one another, using kindness and good will to gain insights into problems that are persistent. May the worst self behavior burn out soon!

The hypocrisy of the party that prostrated itself over Bill Clinton’s personal flaws electing the current president (twice!) is incredible.

Do we find ourselves at this point because of the Presidency or the lack of civic engagement and norms? Many generations of people have given and sacrificed far too much to give up on America the way that the nonvoting public does today. And just as a concerted effort was successfully made to end birtherism regarding Obama. Do the same, pick a lie, and collectively promote the truth.
