I could not stand to watch just fancy dresses and fake emotions and emptiness. The only good feeling was the uplifting speech of the filmmakers of No other land , without politicians involved, just pure humanity.
I’m so overwhelmed by all what’s happening since the US election. On Friday the oval office reached the bottom but I’m sure it could go deeper than that, I hope not , but the future doesn’t look too bright . I am Canadian and I cannot stand to see the orange man deciding what the world and where the world should go.. it’s so overwhelming! Today we got the 25% tariffs because of the fentanyl that goes through our Canadian border to US!?! 😵💫 So many people will suffer because of that, both Americans and Canadians alas.
I won't say the name of the fELON. I won't watch the State of the Union speech. I won't look at his fat orange face. I do wish I could ignore him all together forever. I'll just await his demise.
Like Martian below we didn't watch. We watched the charming Australian series Darby and Joan which is not your typical mystery series since people don't get murdered in every espisode. That being said, as someone who was a therapist for 40 years who has analyzed Trump from my livng room since 2017, I think that if Trump did watch he'd have been pissed that he was pretty much roundly ignored. He thrives on attention whether positive or negative. He was probably disappointed that there was noone he could send out an insulting Truth Social post about calling them a talentless nobody.
Jane Fonda's Lifetime Achievement Award at the SAG Awards last week wasn't subtle at all. Hollywood may be trading carefully, but the actors union, not so much.
I did watch the Oscars last night. It wasn’t necessary to overtly say Trump’s name as the obvious disdain for him was there. It was present in the films that won, with the actors who won and were presenters and it was present in all faces of the audience.
I am sure Trump hated the show (even if he didn’t watch).
I think you hit it. Not mentioning trump during Oscar nights is a great, though probably too subtle, rebuke of him.
I haven't seen mentioned this idea in film critics' op-eds: the number of movies where the government is the "enemy" and where the lone brave person triumphs. This is our classic independence story starting with all those Westerns in early films, but isn't it also a way to say that any government is evil, which has led to trump trying to destroy the valuable government we have
