I am so grateful for the clarity and strength of Judge Ana Reyes' response to Secretary Noem. I can only hope that failure to heed her ruling will be met with the strength of the law and law enforcement.

Trump doesn't care about the courts, only what he can use them for. How many times have court orders been ignored? The other issue is the constant appeals, trying to take them to the Supreme Court, which means months and months before they're heard (except when Trump really really really need something), meanwhile leaving human beings languishing?

We need remember Judge Ana. If and when DEMs take back the government we would like to put her in the USSC.

What she says!⬆️

Judge Reyes, thank you! You give us all courage to stand up and to speak truth to power!

What an eloquent and moving response to Noem's cruelty, racism and illegalities!

Noem just doesn't like anyone who is in any way unlike herself... Isn't this awful woman banned from entering all the Native American Tribal Lands in her own state? I truly am surprised that a KKK bedsheet and hood are not among her cosplay garb.

And yet they're all like that. Ignorant, insufferable, full of arrogance, deceit, dumb as dirt itself -- and proud of it. Trump's obedient wormtongues all chosen for their ability to drool-on-command for the cameras, no matter how absurd the pretext.

Judge Reyes basically said: "Kristi Noem, you are so full of shit it's literally pouring out your moon-bat eyeballs. You haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about..."

A message that yellow-bellied Republicans are too cowardly and dishonest to utter themselves.

Noem seems to prefer fashion that makes her look more acceptably presentable. Unfortunately, when ever she speaks what her mind represents, she undoes it all.

Steve, my late grandmother used to say: pretty is as pretty does. Based on that principle, I guess that makes Kristi "Kardashian Wannabe" Noem a most hideous troll.

Many of our grandmothers had a better sense decency than what we are seeing today. In spite of the lack of many of our labor saving devices that we enjoy, they still had time to observe and think.

To summarize: the regime is willing to destroy the lives of 350,000 legal, employed immigrants who are paying taxes and collectively contributing billions of dollars to the US economy--sending ICE to hunt them, detain them, and send them to a country that the administration itself warns is too dangerous for Americans to visit--because they are black. 350,000 people. Judge Reyes is a hero. The level of cruelty and racism of this administration seems boundless.

and here in ohio, our republican governor supports the haitians living in springfield being able to stay because they saved that city from economic ruin. their hard work and their establishment of new businesses helped resurrect springfield and employee its people. if forced to leave, springfield's citizens would once again be left in economic hardship. apparently the regime doesn't care about springfield's white citizens as long as they make black people leave.

There have been (or at least used to be when it wasn’t quite so dangerous) lots of church mission trips to Haiti. Where are those voices now? Or were all those mission trips performative? You can’t say you care one day and then hate the same people you were trying to help the next. Churches make my heart hurt.

Quite telling when those groups fail to stand up for those they deemed worthy before. Or perhaps they were just collecting badges to show how "christian" and "charitable" they were.

I guess for some, Christianity is a token economy, and they are collecting tokens. I wonder how many they will need to get into heaven?

If you can only stand to read one article on the current state of affairs - read this! Judge Reyes gives us all hope for a better future.

Thanks Jennifer for pulling back the curtain on this disgraceful era in our country's history. While "sunlight is the best disinfectant", it is not a cure-all. That's left to all of us to address.

“If only we had a majority of Ana Reyes’s on the Supreme Court.”

Indeed! 👏👏!

Gee……didn’t the Washington Post used to have Oped opinions like this? Whatever happened to them? Hmmmm?

Think of the GOOD that cranial-rectal diseased dude could do with all that excess money…..and never even miss it! So sad and misguided!

Because he is a money hoarder he is willing to degrade himself at the trough. The unfortunate thing for the American public is that his money is generated from desired and necessary businesses (the biggest commerce site, a previously important media outlet, and a juggernaut in streaming info. Oh, and a food store). He is convinced that the only way he can continue to hoard his money is to gleefully embrace the magakult leader and the republican party.

Reading today’s entry reminded me of others I have read: the Trump Grandfather who fled his country to avoid the draft and may have been involved in questionable practices here, about Trump’s father Fred who was a convicted slum lord, and about Trump himself a convicted felon and who has paid little or no taxes in the last 20 years while becoming, as President, the King O’Bribes. Oh yes, he was also a chum of Epstein. Laudable accomplishments for an immigrant family? You be the judge. Indeed, life is alright if you are white in America. Funny how we don’t hear about crackers, hill billies, and white trash in America anymore. Has that page of economic disparagement finally been turned or has the underbelly class grown so large it is no longer worth mention? It is a sad world where we define our worth from standing on someone’s neck.

For at least his entire adult life, Don the Con has been a blatant racist, going back to when Uncle Sam sued him and his father for refusing to rent to people of color-- and Uncle Sam won.

The only way he could be more blatant about it is if he walked around wearing a white sheet and hood

I read my post again and it made me think--

What kind of people would vote for such a man? What kind of nation? It certainly is no compliment to the country that he could garner that much support.

Maureen Dorsey's avatar

The same people who lost the Civil War, who instituted Jim Crow, who protested school desegregation and bussing (those fights were not only in the south, by the way), who voted into office folks who would deny reasonable immigration laws, who retreat when employers are targeted for hiring undocumented people at lower wages, who were convinced that any person of color got their job because of 'quotas' and 'DEI', and people who could never vote for a woman for president. These are people who live in our neighborhoods, work where we work, go to our schools, gather at our family reunions, drive next to us on the road, and serve in our military. I suspect a lot of them are members of churches, mosques, and temples. They have been the real face of the republican party for decades. Trump is the worst iteration.

Bonnie Covey's avatar

I ask myself that question every day! What kind of person would vote for Trump and continue to support him after all of his racism is laid bare?

noreenk's avatar

Brilliant argument against the Trump regime. Thank you!!

This administration is filled with the same genre that Hitler filled his administration with-viciously stupid, cruel and inept people. They always come out from under their rocks when the likes of a trump gets into power.
