Jennifer Rubin's voice was one of the main reasons I subscribed to the Post in the first place. I cancelled my subscription as soon as I read that Mr. Bezos had refused to publish the endorsement of Kamala Harris. As a trial lawyer, nothing is more important to me than the law and the facts. Both have been under siege for the last 8 years and I trust this new endeavor to support them.

Same. It's sad to see the Post lose some of its best talent, but Bezos should have been able to read the room. Guess his fat government contracts for his other businesses made him buckle to Trump's whims.

Democrats failed to read the room and lost the election.

The GOP, as usual, was better at muddying the truth with a barrage of lies

.

They have demonized moderates and the left with such success dor more than half a century that it's difficult to get through the murkiest of swamps.

"The GOP, as usual, was better at muddying the truth with a barrage of lies."

During Biden's term in office:

It wasn't the GOP that said Joe Biden was "sharp as a tack."

It wasn't the GOP that said inflation wasn't going to happen or that it was transitory.

It wasn't the GOP that said Hunter Biden's laptop was Russian disinformation.

It wasn't the GOP that said the border was secure.

"They have demonized moderates and the left with such success dor more than half a century that it's difficult to get through the murkiest of swamps."

And the Democrats have been paragons of virtue and truth? Oh, please, spare me. It's been a non-stop assault on Trump since 2015, with plenty of help from a very complicit media. I'm still waiting for Adam Schiff's "ample evidence" proving Russian collusion from the 2016 election.

Wholeheartedly agree! I subscribed also mainly to read Mrs. RubinтАЩs brilliant commentaries, and cancelled when Bezos refused to endorse Mrs. Harris. Really looking forward to this new venture!

ItтАЩs been a nightmare 8+ years for this immigrantтАжGood luck to the USA and all of usтАж

Exactly! WaPo is insufficiently leftist doctrinaire!

The free press cannot actually be free, unless it is anti-GOP!!

I did the same. So glad Jen Rubin has left that publication now.

agreed! I'm happy that my Post subscription officially ends in April, never to be renewed. Bezos and his billionaire cronies can suck it.

My subscription to WaPo ends in February. IтАЩm delighted that so many powerful voices are siding with our Democracy. It takes courage to resign under the present circumstances, and IтАЩm proud of every single voice bent on preserving our Free Press!

That is also when I unsubscribed to the Post, it was Jeff Beezos interfering and denying the paper the endorsement of any presidential candidate. This time it was Kamala, next time who knows.

The richies can't just come in and buy a newspaper and then bend it to their personal and business avantage. The Press is our FOURTH Estate and must be managed that way.

Agreed. Also disturbing the way the richies are buying the country.

"Oligarchy" and "kleptocracy" are no longer words I only use when I'm annoyed at the government. That IS what the government has become. At least half of it, at least.

It's his paper, and he decides if it will or will not endorse anyone for any office. It is irrelevant as to the reason(s). And Bezos has to live with the results of his decisions, just like the rest of us.

Likewise - Ms. Rubin was a reason I hadn't cancelled, even with the Harris endorsement debacle. The Telnaes episode was the last straw, and I'm so glad I won't lose Jennifer Rubin columns by cancelling the Post. (But hey, could you guys hire Evan Birnholz so I can still do his crosswords? :)

I don't think you need a subscription to take advantage of the puzzles. I've been playing the "wordle" and the news quiz longer than I've been a subscriber.

Expand full comment

Wordle is NYT, not the Post, and the person who created it required that it be kept free as a condition of sale to the Times. So yeah, a must-do every morning! (I'm 637 days into my streak :) (Having blown a 231 day streak b/c I thought that Borax was a proper noun. Owel). Anyway, dunno if Birnholz is free or not. I will try to find a non-subscriber to check. The daily jigsaw is free, so maybe even the Post-exclusive puzzles are, also.

I think it would be great if enough of us cancel our WaPo subscriptions that it goes belly up. ThatтАЩs a strong message to deliver to Bezos and the other media oligarchs.

I was once a journalist. My career transitioned to higher education public relations and then into strategic communications for leaders and executives. I had faith in the power of journalism, funded a scholarship in new media at my alma mater, and steadfastly defended the media my entire adult life. And now I donтАЩt.

I cancelled WaPo when I got a breaking news alert that it would not endorse a presidential candidate. Negligence in its Fourth Estate duty is unacceptable. After the election, I cleaned up my feed, withdrew from news sources, and waited until I could land in a place the would emerge from the rubble.

The moment Ms. Ruben announced her new startup, I rejoined Substack and selectively subscribe to my curated list of journalists, columnists, analysts, and authentic contributors to discourse on preserving and defending democracy.
