I happily subscribed. Now you guys need an editorial cartoonist. I think you might know of one...

Also, if you ask a certain well known satirist to join, I can then cancel my subscription to that non-newspaper. Let it die in darkness.

Expand full comment

"Let it die in darkness." Great line!

Expand full comment

IтАЩm so pleased to see someone who wishes to share the importance of news based on fact . Truth has become disowned by these billionaire media owners. Who clearly have lost all integrity , assuming they had some before they joined the Liars club.

This is definitely a hopeful , uplifting move, and I thank all whoтАЩve joined this group who wish to use their expertise to a positive end. Bless this endeavor .

Thank you .

Sadly, it thrives in darkness.

No, it survives in darkness and withers in the light.

We can only hope. Living amongst idiots is exhausting..

Expand full comment

Well put - it is exhausting !

Expand full comment

Your comment indicates you are unwilling to accept the realities standing in front of year. Maybe these "idiots" you refer to are going to MAGA!!!

WeтАЩd like to think soтАж

Expand full comment

Yes, тАЬa certain well-known satiristтАЭwhoтАЩs on maternity leave.

Expand full comment

The column you read about bringing a baby into todayтАЩs world is beautiful and touching. But itтАЩs quite different from Alexandra PetriтАЩs usual fare which is biting and satirical and very funny.

Expand full comment

Cancel now, holding out until Alexandra Petri resigns is only helping Bezos.

Expand full comment

I just did. Their endorsement of most of Trump's cabinet was the final straw.

Expand full comment

Have they actually published endorsements of those dipЁЯТйs?

Expand full comment

I saw that they endorsed Bondi. That should be enough for anyone with a brain in their head to cancel their subscription if they still have one. I canceled mine when they refused to endorse Harris, and my amazon prime subscription followed right after.

Expand full comment

Your comment sort of implies that you do not believe that much in the rule of law. Am I correct??

Expand full comment

Please explain why you would conclude that? I'll wait.

Expand full comment

Biden / Harris administration vocalizes that no one is above the law, but do not walk the talk. Bondy has clearly represented and defended the rule of law.

Expand full comment

Sure buddy. Whatever gets you through the night. Bondi isnтАЩt his worst pick, but she is associated with him via money. All it took was $25,000 from DJT to get her to stop investigating him. But tell me more about her history of law & order. IтАЩll wait.

Do you ? And prove it !

Because the maggot kkkult already has fox, oannon, Sinclair, all the podcasts and I can't keep track of what else... but please, more fair and balanced. ЁЯдм

Glad we agree.

Anyone who doesnтАЩt espouse proper leftist ideology is obviously always a lying maggot, while what one reads/hears from those who do conform to leftist orthodoxy by extension must always be the truth.

Expand full comment

Apparently we have a free press if media oligarchs get to publish whatever they're told is the price for the power they gained.

Expand full comment

Quite right.

The MSM today is only publishing pro-Trump stories. All anti-Trump stories have been eliminated.

When Biden and Obama were in charge, by contrast, they almost never published pro-Administration stories, but rather primarily stories that were critical of those administrations.

The problem is that WaPo and the rest of the MSM are now insufficiently anti-Trump.

great train of thought . . . thank you

Expand full comment

He already has! I hate to see the end of newspapers, though, especially because I was a Bezos defender due to the fact that he kept a тАЬhands offтАЭ approach to the WP. ЁЯШЦ

Expand full comment

Margaret Sullivan always said that Bezos never interfered when she was at the WaPo but clearly that changed recently. What shocked and disturbed me is that Bezos hired Will Lewis from Murdoch land even though it was clear that Lewis had obstructed justice in the UK phone hacking case. The court had ordered all emails to be preserved but Lewis had millions of them destroyed anyway тАФ then bizarrely tried to blame ex PM Gordon Brown:

тАЬ First, Murdoch papers targeted me. Now there is evidence they falsely implicated me in a cover-up

Gordon BrownтАЭ

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jul/31/gordon-brown-tom-watson-news-international-william-lewis-rupert-murdoch

After he was hired Lewis tried to bribe NPRтАЩs David Folkenflik with an interview in exchange for killing an article Folkenflik was planning to publish. He later pressured Executive Editor Sally Buzbee to kill similar stories in the WaPoтАЩs. She refused and was soon gone from the WaPo.

That Bezos not only hired Lewis with that scandal in his background, but kept him on after his unethical attempts at covering up his own wrongdoing was a sign that the WaPo was doomed. Even though most of the media has chosen to ignore this shocking story, LewisтАЩs law breaking is likely to become a big story soon as Prince HarryтАЩs lawsuit against MurdochтАЩs organization goes to court.

Expand full comment

It's important to keep in mind that a lot of the Post's integrity was due to the stewardship of former executive editor Marty Baron -- whom Bezos inherited from the Grahams.

"You really are a bot, aren't you?"

Yes. I am bot. Bot I am.

Incapable of independent thought.

Which is why it is so awful that WaPo is now insufficiently leftist doctrinaire.

Isn't it wonderful that people can throw around labels to denigrate the comments of those they disagree with, rather than address the substance?

How many folks robotically posted here that they canceled their WaPo subscriptions because that newspaper is now not leftist enough?

Ironically, I have never been a big fan of Telnaes - cool art, but rarely a truly incisive cartoon of the kind I think the world needs. Then she creates one of the greatest editorial cartoons I've ever seen, and they refuse it.

Expand full comment

How about Alexandra Petri?

Expand full comment

Never found her funny. Will miss Carolyn Hax, though.

Expand full comment

The ONLY thing I miss after cancelling my subscription is Carolyn Hax.

Expand full comment

What the heck did they do to the comments section there?? Don't know if you've seen it if you've canceled your subscription, but it seems to have become some kind of maze. I hate to leave her behind, but Jen Rubin was one of the few reasons I was going to wait until my already-paid-for subscription ran out. Maybe I should go ahead and cancel, as they also ticked me off by running an "Inauguration Sale" special price in my Facebook feed. That takes some nerve. Just how many knees do they have left to bend?! $29, btw...

Expand full comment

They RUINED comments, purposefully I think.

I was only subscribed anymore for Jen and Eugene.

Sorry, Eugene, but the time has come. Enough is enough. I've unsubscribed.

Also, who the heck dreamed up the nightmarish software system for the comments??

The comments section was too freewheeling for Bezos. So he tightened the controls to discourage in any real discourse with readers. They should just add тАЬso letтАЩs finish turning of the lights to get our oligarchy rolling,тАЭ to their motto.

That had been my plan, but I think I'll cancel now so I can say, "you wouldn't endorse a presidential candidate, but now you're saying Trump's cabinet picks are worth your push."

I will miss CH too. She is syndicated, but I was also quite fond of her "commentariat" at WaPo, too. Sigh.

I'm sorry, I checked my link and then did a search, and it looks like she is no longer syndicated! (Yet another stupid decision by the Post, IMHO.)

It would be nice if she too was somewhere else, and a place where the Nutterati can reconnect. I guess for now we will have to find each other like this, among the sane folk at Substack.

You suggested a WaPo cartoonist & if you steped out your bubble, you would find a cartoonist, Darrin Bell, was just arrested for possession of child Pornography. He was a darling of NeverTrumper crowd. Funny how he always accused maga of being "groomers" yet he was projecting this whole time. There's alot of projection on the left. Whether its corruption, oligarchs, Censorship, etc.

But you go ahead & accuse me of lying. It makes it much sweeter when I point out how foolish you were in the future.
